i love style needs to get their hair did

my hair is v fine & goes flat if you look at it sideways so if i inadvertently end up with an afro then I will say hollaaaa

I use Frederic Fekkai Au Naturel Dry Shampoo which is non-aerosol and unscented. I may try blowpro dry shampoo--sounds similar and hopefully less $$$

ehh it's still kind of pricey - about $20 - but a bottle lasts me a really long time, and i use it probably 3-4 x p/w minimum

I dyed my blonde lock dark brown a couple of months back and of course the color went totally black but now its washed out some i haveaccidently ombre hair...dark brown on top and blondie from the chin down. kinda loving it.

if i didn't want to read about it and i don't want to comparison shop, can someone recommend one of those no-poo shampoos? i don't want to make it myself and i don't want to reek of vinegar. i just want to try it out because i think it might help my ailing hair.

I have spent too much time at naturallycurly dot com, and the no-poo strategy of choice appears to be co-washing, which is just using a conditioner as though it were a shampoo (massaging it on your scalp as though you were sudsing, then rinsing out).

I prefer a no-sulfate (aka low-poo) myself--I like the Giovanni tea tree and 50/50 for that, also a sheamoisture low-poo that I'm currently using with a fruity kind of name.

Giovanni is at Whole Foods for sure, maybe drug stores as well? Sheamoisture is at drug stores, target, ulta (the variety I have, fruitfusion, is only at ulta I think, but there are lots of other varieties).

I'd say try the Giovanni. Not too pricey, not overly perfumey, probably a better bet for finer hair (the sheamoisture is pretty heavy-duty).

Co-washing will make your hair super silky, but maybe use a volumizing conditioner which is lighter and probably won't weigh your hair down.

Biotin is supposed to be good for hair too

i need to talk about the crazy hair magic my hairdresser pulled on me back in august, and then pulled on me again a couple weeks ago:

i have a decent amount of hair but it's super fine and super flat. i like big hair, wavy hair, textured hair, frizzy hair.

i've been seeing this dude for 2 yrs only bc he's less than a mile from my house and he's decent. but when i decided to go shorter in august and explained what i wanted (the same thing i've tried explaining before), he suddenly got me and 1 hr later i had the exact hair cut i'd been envisioning for a couple years and it looked awesome. then i found it was pretty easy to style with a little product and a diffuser. then i found it was even easier if i did the headband-curl thing at night (no dryer). then i found out how fucking MAGICAL it was when i put wet hair in a tiny ponytail and then put a tight hat on it all day.

i can let it air dry and it looks great.

it's the kind of hair cut that you see me, you won't be all 'omg i LOVE that haircut' - it suits me, but it's the manageability, given my experience with my hair, that makes it incredible. i've never ever been able to not blow dry my hair in order for it to look decent, unless employing something like the headband-curling thing, and definitely not on shorter hair (it's jaw length when it's freshly cut).

i don't think i've been to the same hairdresser more than 3 x before, and definitely no more than twice a year, but this dude has my life-long allegiance.

good haircuts are such a game-changer, and having someone who can replicate good haircuts over and over and over is goddamn gift from heaven!

i'm planning a major haircut this weekend and have been up and down. The position I have settled into is that this is my liberation from hair. So sick of feeling beholden to caring about the state of my hair. i just want it to be so short that i am free of thinking about it.

i haven't actually looked forward to a haircut this much in a while. last year i went to a random salon in san francisco when i was on vacation in june and then gave myself a supplemental haircut in the fall. it's time!

short hair needs upkeep tho, I dream of growing my hair long so I don't have to bother with it... I guess if you like what you get and are happy to go get it cut like that every so often at least you don't have to actually think too much about it.

i would gladly grow my hair long if i could, but i can't. short is the only option for low maintenance and stress.

but through that site I found another that had easy tutorials for retro hairstyles for curly hair, and then I realized that there were combs and bobby pins that are not tiny, so that I can actually do things with my hair.

i haven't cut my hair since my last post, and boyyyy is it looking raggeddy as fuck

1. i don't wanna spend $100 on my hair (and going anywhere other then the guy i've been seeing would get me a haircut i couldn't up-keep, or could've cut myself)
2. i bleached my hair last may in order to dye it lavender, but my usual 'this is too hard, fuck it' attitude kicked in as i was applying the bleach so i did a pretty horrendous job of it and will let myself be too easily shamed by my stylist if i go see him
3. i've been in an extended phase of trying to look invisible, which means i put no effort into how i look and tying my hair in a topknot is all i can bothered to do. if i go back to the great cut i got last time, i'll have to put some effort into it everyday.

i do, however, really like what the bleach did to my hair - gave it lots more body and texture, along with damage and split ends.

i finally got one of those tangle-teezer rip-offs and it is a miracle worker.

I think the secret to good hair is just in the water you wash it with, not so much the products you use. Italian water gave me amazing hair that never got greasy. Faroe Islands water also great.

Now I want to get one of those fancy water filters for my shower head.

Yes!!! Italian water was noticeably different for me too. Our water is super hard.

keep putting off getting highlights done because it always looks stripey the first time (old ones have long grown out)

The water where I am currently is super hard too and I think it's causing more of my hair to fall out/break. I just discussed this with an Italian (from Campania) who was also talking about her hair falling out here and I was like IT HAS TO BE THE WATER.

My most recent shampoo love this year is klorane in mango butter. I've tried other flavors but I love love love this one.

I am also constantly thinking about when I should try to convert over and try completely white hair. I think it's about 80% grey now on the top and sides, the lower back is still mostly dark brown. I've been dying it since I was 16 but it's such a pain. It's past my shoulder blades so i would need to lop most of it off. I've been kind of obsessed with Loora Wang's hair (shaved on the sides, long on top) ever since I saw those tik toks of her and her sister.

At this point I think the hair will maybe be the last thing for me. As problems go it's an OK one but I do agonize over it. Wearing wigs for the rest of my life, I guess I would be OK with it, but at some point I should find someone I can trust and find out what my practical options are.

i splurged on Jonathan Van Ness “Air Dry Creme” from his new JVN line of products (u can get it at Sephora)

holy cats. soft shiny bouncy curls w no scrunching & no hair dryer. as advertised! 10/10 no notes.

i have naturally curly hair but its dry and thin & trashed from home box dye. i used about a quarter-size amt, worked through damp hair concentrating on ends, combed it through w a wide tooth comb, gently scrunched the ends just to start the curl…boom. thats it.

shiny af, nice piecey curls, not crunchy or anything.

i tried it one time scrunching a lot but it doesnt seem to need it? works better if you just leave it alone imo - at least if you already have a curl pattern of some kind
