ugh those titles tho

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 04:40 (two years ago) Permalink

Yeah I'm not too bothered with titles tbh. He tends to get a bit cheesier with his EP titles.

ive downloaded all of his flacs but only played a few of them, the mego one last year is interesting

Ekoplekz is the artist name of Nick Edwards, a 44-year-old property developer from Bristol

theres a forum page somewhere where english people get upset about this lms

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 13:18 (two years ago) Permalink

i'm into this

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 13:40 (two years ago) Permalink

was expecting frankly another deepchord clone; was not expecting him to sound like early conrad schnitzler

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 13:42 (two years ago) Permalink

i like the new ekoplekz ep

nb there appears to be some psytrance producer called ekoplex who i found by accident

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:07 (two years ago) Permalink

so is the robert rental track, which is mandatory if u call a track that

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:09 (two years ago) Permalink

I first heard of Ekoplekz stuff through that woebot blog, and then from a friend who was interested in synth experimentation, and finally actually heard stuff on a Mordant Music compilation. I think he codes a lot more as experimental/weird than as dub techno.

"deepchord clone" being an intriguing state since they're really kind of a flattened down version of a handful of basic channel tracks

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:26 (two years ago) Permalink

and yet, and yet

naw i'm into dc/echospace/intrusion/et al but the list of epigonal derivatives is unending

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:33 (two years ago) Permalink

basic channel is too elemental to listen to regularly, feel like they are more of a procrustean bed for this kind of stuff than sth to be enjoyed on their own for v long

i never get tired of this

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:37 (two years ago) Permalink

have you ever gotten into the silent season stuff? I haven't really, yet, but heard good things

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 16:15 (two years ago) Permalink

i dl'ed and listened to a few segue releases a couple years ago and still listen to "pacifica" every now and then

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHswVBmIHAI

he's since put out two more albums that i hadn't noticed prob bc i went about that long w/o a computer

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:05 (two years ago) Permalink

they're doing some sort of showcase at this festival in boulder, colorado. thought about going. charles cohen also playing.

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:13 (two years ago) Permalink

i am so shit abt following new releases, 2013 was pretty much the last year i was keeping up and completely fell off the wagon over the past year in favor of diving into artist discogs

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:16 (two years ago) Permalink

I keep up on nothing, I think my listening is pretty much concentrated on a few things, then I see some other things live and fall into those

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:24 (two years ago) Permalink

I dont keep up with anything, only what i find in the woods

that remix of model 500 is ok nowhere near the original or maurizio mix

saer, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:33 (two years ago) Permalink

ok BUT nowhere near

saer, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:33 (two years ago) Permalink

i think the whole remix album is wonderful, maybe the best deepchord thing outside of the linkwood "miles away" remixes.

ekoplekz not my thing at all.. i'd be down to listen to some ilm-er curated best-of, though.

brimstead, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 20:52 (two years ago) Permalink

that elemental quality of basic channel is exactly what makes them so endlessly listenable

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 1 April 2015 01:03 (two years ago) Permalink

if if you want a good context for a bunch of basic channel, that Scion mix is still amazing

btw... stroboscopic artefacts ^_^

mh, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 01:38 (two years ago) Permalink

yeah that mix is fucking rad

i still haven't figured out what kevin drumm has to do w/ any of this

clouds, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 07:07 (two years ago) Permalink

dismal spooky ambience

mh, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 15:00 (two years ago) Permalink

i think i made myself allergic to drone stuff with too many all-night essay writing jags being soundtracked by it

New Ekoplekz is kinda early-IDM sounding and I'm finding it less interesting tbh. Bring back lo-fi retrofuturisms.

Digging this though

http://unknownprecept.bandcamp.com/album/failed-devotee

"Charity" sounds like a low-tech 1980 remix of a Cabaret Voltaire song from 2x45.

This new Michael Vallera record kinda sounds like outtakes from Seefeel's "Succour" with the tempo dialed way, way down:

Raime's new album is very good. It's by no means dance music but it reminds me a lot of the most stripped back dread UK dance tracks of the last 25 years

paolo, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:17 (one year ago) Permalink

Artists like D1, Jon E Cash, Shackleton etc

paolo, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 20:18 (one year ago) Permalink

I wasn't incredibly into it but saw them live, loud, and it grew on me

New Kaumwald EP is pretty cool, definitely Opal Tapes-appropriate (scudding beats, uneasy ambiance, lots of subtle weird touches you only notice on headphones)

streaming off of that Lescalleet track, another thing that reminds me of "This Foundry"

so, how about this Grebenstein release?

mh ๐Ÿ˜, Tuesday, 1 November 2016 14:37 (one year ago) Permalink

I like Grebenstein. I'm not too sure about this new Raime, though, it sounds like a tribute to Photek circa The Hidden Camera. In fact it just makes me want to listen to The Hidden Camera.

i've been loving the raime album so much this winter (after initially dismissing it). play it almost every morning

lex pretend, Wednesday, 14 December 2016 09:05 (one year ago) Permalink

It's one of those albums where every track sounds the same but in a good way

paolo, Wednesday, 14 December 2016 09:17 (one year ago) Permalink

I loved the EPs & Quarter Turn to distraction, but somehow didn't engage with Tooth. I need to go back to it.

I think I posted this Rorqual album on another thread, but it's probably worth sharing here for it's creeping, oozy ambience with occasional leaden beats.

http://woodbetweenworlds.bandcamp.com/album/sei-ci

It kind of reminds me of the electronic stuff on Sigma Editions (Parmentier and Minit specifically) through a darker lens.
