I fucking love this song.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 21 March 2015 20:13 (nine years ago) link

was on a date last night and they played it at the bar, which was totally unreal

I'd judge a date on how he responds to my loving this song.

last night I was on a date and "Dear Future Husband" played and I was like, can I go to CVS

god "love somebody" is garbage

yeah not rly into this sorry boys. tryna take me out to dinner i cancel it

if u know me you'll know this aint my feng shui to begin with but even within the boundaries of admirable craftsmanship the echo repeat crowd chorus feels like a cold clammy hand

r|t|c, Saturday, 21 March 2015 21:09 (nine years ago) link

this song is clearly going to be a big radio hit so those of u who like it will be pleased to hear it in every public space for the next 8 months

dyl, Saturday, 21 March 2015 22:13 (nine years ago) link

i heard this the other day and had one of those annoying "this is awesome, but who is this? it's not Trey Songz is it?" moments in the car and then never caught enough lyrics to google it later, so i'm glad jordan brought it up so i know what it is.

So this is the current direction of pop music, funky, euphoric, slow electropop, much like Jealous, Love Me Harder, Style or Love Me Like You Do, to name a few. I really like it.

my first thought: "wow, Luke James going Tery Songz!"

is "love me like you" as good as the rest of these songs?

also sorta feel like this trend was kicked off by "hold on we're going home"

J0rdan S., Saturday, 21 March 2015 23:19 (nine years ago) link

yeah the Trey Songz track that this most reminded me of when i thought it might be Trey was BoB's "Not For Long" and that was basically a "Hold On" knockoff, so there's some connection there

i don't like "Love Me Like You Do" as much as the other Ellie Goulding on the charts right now, "Outside," but it's ok i guess

eh "Hold On" definitely wanted to be "Adorn" but none of these songs really have much in common with "Adorn"

sums it up for me. it's catchy and the drum fills are nice i guess

lex pretend, Sunday, 22 March 2015 10:19 (nine years ago) link

that would suggest an affable disposability but idk i only get oppressive production line drudgery from this, synth stabs like a rubber stamped rictus on prepack orgafun (lol i am MAD rockist about fake disco)

r|t|c, Sunday, 22 March 2015 10:30 (nine years ago) link

like mannn isnt it ultimately all about freedom, triumph of abiding humanity, losing urself to be urself, etc... not this lemmings motorik

r|t|c, Sunday, 22 March 2015 10:34 (nine years ago) link

idk it's very ersatz but it's hardly "uptown funk"

lex pretend, Sunday, 22 March 2015 10:35 (nine years ago) link

vis-à-vis the raves upthread it's somehow both much better and much worse than expected

lex pretend, Sunday, 22 March 2015 10:36 (nine years ago) link

it's the same as uptown funk but disco as template makes its inherent woe cut closer, too close ime

r|t|c, Sunday, 22 March 2015 10:47 (nine years ago) link

i lolled at this.

still not sure what shift k3y deserves for replacing my daily internal dialogue with that exchange

he does not deserve his awesome new jam being ignored though, u scumbags

r|t|c, Sunday, 22 March 2015 11:56 (nine years ago) link

Do you mean "Name & Number"? I love it but I am weirdly into his ropey vocals on it.

Tim F, Sunday, 22 March 2015 12:00 (nine years ago) link

I note "Not Into It" was finally released! Some 18 months + later.

Tim F, Sunday, 22 March 2015 12:01 (nine years ago) link

yas kween name & # is what i mean

i read ropey as inviting karaoke

eh "Hold On" definitely wanted to be "Adorn" but none of these songs really have much in common with "Adorn"

My GF texted me about "Jealous" being an "Adorn" knockoff and I trust her judgement.

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:15 (nine years ago) link

wow I don't hear it. Still sounds like post-Justin laptop soul moves.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:18 (nine years ago) link

"Adorn" is quite literally laptop soul.

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:38 (nine years ago) link

^ lol yep!!

slow the tempo on "adorn" a few bpm and the similarities are pretty striking

dyl, Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:43 (nine years ago) link

i can see the connection between "jealous" and "adorn" ... i still see "adorn" as being outside that group of songs tho

this song is so good

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 March 2015 22:51 (nine years ago) link

he looks like the biggest fucking goober and yet his vocals are so weirdly endearing and sweet

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 March 2015 22:51 (nine years ago) link

he sounds and looks like the 5th most important member of a second-tier boy band

AND YET

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 March 2015 22:52 (nine years ago) link

ya i think i said b4 his singles are all on a runtish jordan knight tip

r|t|c, Sunday, 22 March 2015 22:59 (nine years ago) link

yes exactly

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 March 2015 23:08 (nine years ago) link

But what better song of personal liberation is there than "Ridin' Solo."

with HD lyrics (Eazy), Monday, 23 March 2015 01:58 (nine years ago) link

I wasn't into this song at first

But my officemate kept on playing it and now I think it's great, it's one of "those" songs

Looking forward to hearing this everywhere

He was also playing the new Carly Rae and I still think that song is bad and not good and doesn't improve with casual brushes

Sorry Carly, next time... maybe?

lol that crj song really sank like a stone after a week of people losing their minds about it

The CRJ single is only being added to radio today.

heard that in the wild on sunday

i wouldn't be surprised if the crj song doesn't really pick up

dyl, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 05:11 (nine years ago) link

arguing that "adorn" is the genesis of songs like this is one of the worst insults i've seen about it. i don't hear it? i mean if you change everything about the production and tempo maybe but those are quite big things.

as a song this one is really nowhere near "jealous"

lex pretend, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 11:42 (nine years ago) link

I'm not massively in love with this but it doesn't really seem offensive?

Tim F, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 11:44 (nine years ago) link

two months pass...

so this album's good, including the Keith Urban-Stevie Wonder collaboration.

what a strange career this guy's had

k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 June 2015 15:33 (eight years ago) link

on one hand i'm pretty embarrassed for having liked "whatcha say", otoh i love "trumpets" and "want to want me". i don't think i have any idea what is and isn't a good song with this dude

k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 June 2015 15:34 (eight years ago) link

Caramanica, somewhat baffled, calls him chameleonic. I say the guy has scored the most frictionless hits of the last few years.
