lag∞n, Friday, 20 March 2015 18:57 (nine years ago) link

as it pertains to the thunder specifically, for our purposes

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 March 2015 20:01 (nine years ago) link

Athletes act like dicks to reporters all the time. Why is this a story?

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 20 March 2015 20:22 (nine years ago) link

yeah that aspect of the thunder going into overdrive sheltering their players from the media was something. that reggie jackson story was interesting too.

balls, Friday, 20 March 2015 20:27 (nine years ago) link

He's like 6'9 235.

Guys like that don't really get injured that much anyways. Injury risk greater for bulky guys or leapers.

― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, March 19, 2015 6:34 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

as far as i can tell when he was drafted he was around 6-11/220-225,

He was 6'9 in bare feet, these are publicly available measurements.

Even post insanity/injuries Sanders still had absurd DRPM numbers. He was/is a great defender.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 March 2015 21:59 (nine years ago) link

You can't really fluke defense for a season, dude just was good.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 March 2015 22:01 (nine years ago) link

My conspiracy theory is that kev doesn't like lanky shotblockers who are awkward offensively.

yeah kind of an odd situation where by sheltering their players too much theyre making them allergic to the media where it cld just be nbd and ordinary if everyone wld just chill

lag∞n, Friday, 20 March 2015 22:08 (nine years ago) link

One thing I didn't see in those MJax articles: when bogut got injured and Jackson basically called him a pussy and then gave a fiery press conference blaming the media for printing what he said. Great guy!

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 March 2015 22:25 (nine years ago) link

lol

lag∞n, Friday, 20 March 2015 22:27 (nine years ago) link

truly a man spreading god's love

Clay, Friday, 20 March 2015 22:35 (nine years ago) link

i swear every national broadcast i've seen of a dubs game this year as soon as someone mentions what a great job kerr is doing etc there's an immediation interjection of 'WELL YOU HAVE TO GIVE MARK JACKSON CREDIT ETC'. fucking ridiculous.

balls, Friday, 20 March 2015 22:59 (nine years ago) link

yeah that talk should all die next year. jax just needs to get a coaching job so they can all just talk freely too.

Steph def def (Spottie), Friday, 20 March 2015 23:10 (nine years ago) link

i kinda love bogut as a human

this was fascinating and so weird. i wonder how the spurs handle local media.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 21 March 2015 01:18 (nine years ago) link

spurs fully spursgasming against the celtics rn

but hey who cares pacers lost tonight still tied for dat 8th

slothroprhymes, Saturday, 21 March 2015 02:25 (nine years ago) link

@CelticsHub: Marcus Smart with the flagrant 2 foul and ejection after a cheap shot on Matt Bonner in the nuts. A suspension is likely coming too.

lag∞n, Saturday, 21 March 2015 02:27 (nine years ago) link

i forget what pre-duncan media was like down here, but local coverage is fawning plus they know how pop is. he's generally more verbose with local reporters in interviews, ive noticed.

slothroprhymes, Saturday, 21 March 2015 02:52 (nine years ago) link

xp thanks, it's obv a little different but i feel like if okc is actually stonewalling the local media that's going to be unproductive in the long run

again when i was questioning the sanders extension there was much less data to go on, and DRPM didn't even exist yet. i'm wary of buying into hype over a season or so's worth of defensive numbers, because they can fluctuate a lot. i never said he wasn't a very good defender. i questioned the contract because of 1) not a lot of data to go on on the defensive end 2) the fact that he gives you nothing on offense and 3) the fact that he had trouble staying on the court because of fouling. this is even before character issues became so problematic. obviously the jury is in at this point and he's a great defender, but even leaving the character issues aside, was he worth 11 million a year under the old cap structure? i don't think that's such a no-brainer

i think it is definitely fair to say that i get less excited over one-dimensional players, particularly those who don't have a lot of ball skills

kyrie and k-lo officially in the playoffs for the first time

Steve Nash is retiring.

All time FT% leader, third all time in assists, two MVPs (and one second place).
