Legion was considered a failure upon release, at least as far as my metal buddies and I were concerned, for many of the reasons you name; it really just doesn't stick to the ribs. Over the years I've grown to like it more, but I still don't think it compares to the s/t. It's become the Pinkerton of death metal.

I prefer post-Hoffman Deicide. Once the guitar solos got all melodic and squiggly (vs. the post-Kerry King whammy bar abuse the brothers brought to the table), the albums got a lot more fun to listen to.

Ah, see I disagree - I love the 'noise solos!'

Poor showing here. Guess everyone is busy talking about the new Kendrick Lamar album?

I totally missed this thread. Probably would've voted "Dead By Dawn" but "Lunatic of God's Creation" is pretty tight. "Carnage in the Temple" is great, if only for the "Forgive me father, for I have sinned" U WILL NEVER SIN AGAINNNNNNN bit. And Powers Boothe cameo.

Wish I could have an ILX-alert to let me know when metal polls are happening. I'm getting too comfortable with using bookmarks.

seven months pass...

saw them at their one-off show in Sanford last night. even created a special commemorative (cheaply assembled) shirt for the show.

I have two huge knots on my elbow from hitting the deck. I will never miss these guys live..fuckin slayed my eardrums.

"Trifixion" a highlight of the night...also Steve Asheim looks more and more hulking as years go on, almost broke my hand when shaking it

two years pass...

new one is hella fun but they get more and more melodic on each album, no less demonic. one of the songs essentially has a Blind Guardian riff in the middle of it.

four months pass...

the "Dead by Dawn" solo is probably the eeriest metal guitar solo known to man

I was unfair to The Stench of Redemption. Now it's one of my favorites!

those little rumbly, beastly noises Glen does towards the end of "Lunatic", I heard them all over Sarcofago's I.N.R.I. too. studio trickery or was he doin that shit himself?

I remember being shown a video about offensive/dangerous music in English at school when I was about 14. It had stuff about Judas Priest and that guy who shot his face off, the Dead Kennedys, Queen (that song that played backwards is supposed to say something like "you gotta smoke marijuana") and Deicide - at the time I thought Deicide was actually scary and they were real satanists. I think the song they played was Sacrificial Suicide because although I slightly misremembered it because I thought it was something about the "seventh gate of hell" and that song just says "seventh gate" that's probably close enough. some of the boys were saying afterwards they had to go and get that album lol. I wasn't into metal then, the only band that caught my attention was the Dead Kennedys although it took me a few years to actually find anything by them
