Lamp, Thursday, 26 March 2009 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link

ive thought a lot about this and the answer is--

1. reeses peanut butter cups
2. peanut m&ms
3. snickers bars
4. lion bars
5. butterfingers

this is a really good list i dont have much to add except that ill rep pretty hard for gummy-type candies too - they fulfill a slightly different kind of candy craving theyre just that one step further removed from actual food

Lamp, Thursday, 26 March 2009 04:01 (fifteen years ago) link

circus peanuts kinda suck. They're like perennial marshmallow easter eggs.

they're nothing special tastewise, but waxy, colorized high fructose corn syrup has never assumed a more perfect form, imo. snap off the white tips and affix one to each upper front tooth for instant vampire fangs, mold the other two sections into big, mushy cornballs — you know the drill.

these are SHIT. I hate them.

(lbrah) (harbl), Thursday, 26 March 2009 18:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I wish I was the royal trux (sunny successor), Thursday, 26 March 2009 18:54 (fifteen years ago) link

most of these must have US analogs; I assume malteasers are whoppers?

continuous flow crustastunna (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 26 March 2009 19:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Malteasers and whoppers taste nothing alike. Whoppers are distgusting for sure. Pineapple lumps are from New Zealand I think.

I wish I was the royal trux (sunny successor), Thursday, 26 March 2009 20:01 (fifteen years ago) link

okay, can we get some description for the non-american candy?
i m curious. Some of this stuff is available at better corner delis but is crazy expensive, like three bucks a candy bar and I wanna know where it's worth it.

continuous flow crustastunna (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 26 March 2009 20:04 (fifteen years ago) link

okay maltesers are malty fluffy things that you can crunch but if you hold them on your tongue for a minute they collapse in on themselves. they have the same description as whoppers but taste NOTHING like whoppers.

violet crumble is this crunchy honeycomb stuff that breaks off in shards when you bite it and then goes all sticky in yr mouth.

cherry ripe is cherries squished up and coated in dark chocolate

snack is a block of chocolate with about 6 different types of centers - pineapple, strawberry, caramel, orange come to mind. each square is shaped like the fruity flavor it holds. kids fight over the pineapple then they fight over the strawberry.

bananas are a banana tasting candy that is very hard to describe. its soft, not at all chewy and completely delicious.

sherbies are a hardish but chewy orange flavored taffy with sherbet in the middle. im talking about the fizzy white powder not sorbet.

pineapple lumps are chocolate coated squares of pineapple flavored soft chewy stuff.

Yes to Werthers. I feel like Nips also scratch a similar itch.

Whoa, just realized I used the same phrase in a post in this thread more than four years ago, and it's not a phrase I use that often:

Those can definitely scratch a certain itch you didn't realize you had. I wouldn't want to eat them often.
