Around thirty years after reading the first post-Crisis WW when I was a kid and not understanding a word of it, I finally sat down and read to the end of the Perez run (I'm considering the end to be the point Mindy Newell takes over as scripter, even though Perez still has a "plotter" credit).

Kind-of mixed feelings about it all, although I'd say it's probably the richest and emotionally complex depiction of the character up to that point - given how directionless and unloved the title often felt prior to the relaunch you could say this is a pretty low bar, but that would do it a disservice.

- Perez does love his reams of Claremontian purple prose but I find that quite a charmingly quaint in a way - I guess the issues I have are mainly around the plotting. The best storylines have the relationship between Diana & The Kapatellis's at the heart of the them, but all too often this is sidelined in favour of HUGE, DRAMATIC, WORLD-SHAKING EVENTS! usually involving whatever big company cross-over was going on that month, which just makes the overall narrative feel disjointed.

- Was taken aback with how brutal the final arc with the rogue Amazons got, seemed like Perez was pushing it as far as he could without getting a "Mature Readers Only" tag. I don't recall any other mainstream DC titles of the time getting quite this bloody. Also seemed a bit out of character Diana not bothered by an entire city getting wiped off the face of the earth, even if the Bad Amazons were all a bunch of jerks. Seems like there was something more to be explored in terms of contrasting the pacifistic Themysciran Amazons against their crazy fundamentalist cousins but then it's all just binned off really quickly. Like Perez had written himself into a hole and just wanted to get out of it before he wrapped things up.

- Perez's art as strikingly detailed and vivid as I remember it from when I was young (the horrible recolours in the digital version do it no justice at all, original scans or nothing), but there is disappointing drop in quality after Chris Marrinan and Will Blyberg take over art duties full time.

- Depiction of Chuma the pygmy in the Cheetah storyline is problematic to say the least
