Hark milady, what?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:16 (three years ago) Permalink

i did hear something about limited streaming, i wonder what the limit is (apparently haven't hit it yet for anything).

lil urbane (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:17 (three years ago) Permalink

Wondering how much these anti-streaming artists were making from radio airplay back in the day. I'd guess it was actually less.

Maybe this is inappropriate, but my band has a name-your-price mini album out ATM https://discozhivago.bandcamp.com/

nuumerykah (dog latin), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:25 (three years ago) Permalink

The limit is for the mobile app only, no?

Dinsdale, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 16:27 (three years ago) Permalink

oh, that would make sense.

lil urbane (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 16:36 (three years ago) Permalink

is there a good "beginner's guide to using bandcamp" tutorial out there for first-time users from the artist side? i have used bandcamp plenty as a consumer/listener but i don't know anything from the other side and i need to get the ball rolling.

groundless round (La Lechera), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 16:45 (three years ago) Permalink

it's super easy, you just upload wav files and artwork and type words. they walk you through it.

lil urbane (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 16:58 (three years ago) Permalink

they have to be wav files? see i didn't know that.
i don't know anything!

groundless round (La Lechera), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 17:29 (three years ago) Permalink

any lossless format - wav, aif, flac. then they automatically encode the compression versions (mp3s etc).

lil urbane (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 17:32 (three years ago) Permalink

their Help section seems comprehensive enough

Dinsdale, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 17:33 (three years ago) Permalink

oh ok, i didn't realize that you can control/remove the streaming limit:

By default, fans can play tracks on Bandcamp only a few times in full, after which they get a dialog prompting them to buy. As the artist, you can up this limit, or remove it entirely, from your Profile page (you of course always get unlimited plays of your own tracks, but for the curious, here’s what the purchase prompt looks like). When a fan makes a purchase, they get unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app for Android, iOS and Sonos, an optional download in a variety of high-quality formats including lossless, and of course the satisfaction of directly supporting an artist they love.

lil urbane (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 17:36 (three years ago) Permalink

i'll gather my materials and see what i can get done by myself. ty!

I enjoyed this – more so the second half – though I've not heard much indie-pop since the Mystery Jets went mediocre. Light-as-air sounds en español just in time for the southern summer [/reviewer]
(From Amplifier: "Polvo Disco is Alexander Longstaff's solo project. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, he became involved at young age in the local rock music scene, touring Chile and Argentina as a former member of pop band Alai. In 2007 he moved to New Zealand and started his solo music career")

“Why Pay More?” was originally created for a performance at Whartscape in 2009 in which audience members had to guess the track’s bpm in order to win a prize (a life size bust of Master Chief from the video game Halo)

4-track ep from LA band The Tissues, reminds me of a lot of female-fronted bands I was into in the 90s where the singer sang LOUD.

May have been covered up thread but ... have we discussed the "correct" price to pay for a "name your price" album?

djh, Sunday, 30 July 2017 17:33 (one year ago) Permalink

I feel $4 and have no idea why

Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 30 July 2017 21:25 (one year ago) Permalink

$6.66 hail satan

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Sunday, 30 July 2017 21:39 (one year ago) Permalink

I usually go with $5.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 July 2017 23:58 (one year ago) Permalink

$10 fugazi style

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 31 July 2017 00:11 (one year ago) Permalink

The question was prompted by some "name your price" Ian William Craig downloads that I'd buy if they came out on CD.

$4 or £3.00 doesn't seem too shoddy.

One thing I don't understand about Bandcamp. Why does anyone pay for any of the music if everything - I ever saw on there - was streamable for free? Just to download the mp3 and have a file on the computer?

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 30 April 2018 17:59 (three months ago) Permalink

to download the MP3 in case it ever goes away, and/or to support the artist

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Monday, 30 April 2018 18:10 (three months ago) Permalink

at least once I've streamed something on BC a couple of times and then been informed I couldn't anymore without purchasing the album--not sure how standard that is though
