Oh wait! GOTT -these accompanied the actual film script?

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Sunday, 1 March 2015 14:56 (nine years ago) link

Yeah it's bizarre. The script is titled DUNE by Alejandro Jodorowsky, and the customer who brought it in is a reliable guy and says he got it in the 70s... it's a mystery. But I love it.

boretanic snoremaster (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 1 March 2015 14:58 (nine years ago) link

The book is bound, btw, but the illustrations look like they were originally in a 3-hole binder and are on a different stock than the typed script.

boretanic snoremaster (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 1 March 2015 14:59 (nine years ago) link

Wow. Make a PDF of that script, please!!

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Sunday, 1 March 2015 15:15 (nine years ago) link

That is pretty amazing! Wow!

That would be Dali as Emperor of the Galaxy.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 1 March 2015 18:11 (nine years ago) link

put it on eBay for $2,000 and see what happens

I dunno. (amateurist), Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:56 (nine years ago) link

I really don't know much about Jodorowsky's films or other writing but both The Incal and The Technopriests are fantastic comic novels.

earlnash, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 06:30 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, scan that thing at the highest rez you can, then list it on eBay for laughs

Delbert Gravy (kingfish), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 07:52 (nine years ago) link

We're listing it for the guy who brought it in, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes. I'm going to at least try to photograph all of the plates, if I can I'll scan it. Don't want it to disappear into some dude's library forever...

Wtf?! Crazy

When George Harrison learned this company, Apple, was going to produce my film The Holy Mountain on John Lennon’s recommendation, he asked to read the script. Then he expressed a desire to play the lead role, that of the thief. Dressed completely in white, he received me in his elegant suite at the Plaza Hotel in New York. He offered me some melon juice with cinnamon and congratulated me on the script. He said that he was prepared to play the role on condition that we cut one scene, which he read aloud: “At an octagonal sink, next to a veritable hippopotamus, the alchemist bathes the thief, turns him over on his back, his buttocks facing the camera, and rubs soap over his anus.”

With an amiable grin, he said, “It’s quite out of the question for me to expose my anus in public.”

Those script pages are even worse than the pix. Just started reading Dune; doubtimg there's anything so room-temperature-IQ middle school in this novel (hope not)

dow, Friday, 13 March 2015 14:19 (nine years ago) link

The dog pages are the ones I'm referring to.

dow, Friday, 13 March 2015 14:25 (nine years ago) link

haha, those pages are amazing. Don't think I've ever seen any of his script or if it is even out there at all for people to see. He truly did not care about or even know about the details of the Frank Herbert book. One of the biggest problems with the David Lynch version is how slavishly he tries to mimic the style of the novel with all of the unnecessary internal monologues. Jodorowsky, on the other hand, seems to have decided to just make up his own story from scratch.

Free Me's Electric Trumpet (Moodles), Friday, 13 March 2015 15:00 (nine years ago) link

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, would you mind if I posted those pictures on my tumblr? I have a lot of both Dune and Jodorowsky stuff on there.

Free Me's Electric Trumpet (Moodles), Thursday, 19 March 2015 14:11 (nine years ago) link

Sure, man. Cool Tumblr btw!

We're starting the auction next Tuesday. I'll post some more scans from it sometime soon, including the crazy "Oh, yes this is definitely Jodorowsky" section where Jessica gets pregnant with Paul.

I've had Holy Mountain on my memory stick waiting to be watched for the last couple of months. not sure what prompted me to get a load of his stuff a few months ago. But just not been getting around to watching anything until today.
So I finally got to see that Holy Mountain today and it is weird isn't it? Not sure how self consciously.
You can see the influence of things like Un Chien Andalou and L'Age D'Or in it.

I do love those hats they have though I think I might go for a lower crown on them if I got one.

find his recent campaign to put his films up on vimeo for free endearingly insane (distributor for Dance of Reality is already blocking it, so now Jodo says he's putting up Santa Sangre next lol)

Dammit, I really want to see Dance Of Reality. Doubting a region 2 release.

Cool! BTW my laptop died so unless and until I can figure out if the drive is readable that's probably the only stuff that'll be around. I'm extremely annoyed - spent days scanning that thing. But hopefully it can be salvaged.

three weeks pass...

Just caught Dance Of Reality on its last day of cinema screening. Aside from rough cgi near the start, a little rough acting and a few things that didn't look quite right, I liked this a lot. I'll probably even buy the dvd in a couple of weeks.
I really didn't expect this to be about the father so much. Loved the singing mother, she's so beautiful.

Cant remember thread or idiot poster that was claiming jodo is an atheist but:

JodoEnglish (@AlejodoEnglish) tweeted at 11:52 AM on Wed, Sep 16, 2015:
They are only wrong when they say "God does not exist". In everything else the atheists are right.

Although the route of the artist who does annoying shit to annoy his parents is a bit hippie-ish and I don't know if I need to hear another tribute to the counterculture, and its annoying from a Western POV there was counter-balance in 1) Parra's 'boring' teacher/poet, 2) his parents were fascists, and Chile was a fascist state.

I really liked Parra's 'Anti-poems' (should be re-issued imo) and this short story about Lihn by Roberto Bolano is fantastic: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/12/22/meeting-with-enrique-lihn

xyzzzz__, Monday, 9 January 2017 11:39 (seven years ago) link

Love that. I'm always going to have an appetite for tributes to the counterculture. I think it just caught me at the right time, I really enjoyed it

ogmor, Monday, 9 January 2017 12:01 (seven years ago) link

Might be able to see it Thursday if this cold goes away fast but probably not. The disc is out in March.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 9 January 2017 13:47 (seven years ago) link

dance of reality was unexpectedly one of the greatest films i have ever seen about sons and fathers.

endless poetry def has its moments, but i found a rather long portion of the middle a bit indulgent, or without using that tired word, a bit whimsical. esp as he is so pretentious, and his actual art did not seem that impressive (i felt something similar watching paterson... admittedly this might be my feelings about much poetry). i think its also his son's performance. theres something a bit too plain about him. which might have been the point. but the younger actor who played AJ as a child was a more expressive actor than his own son playing him as a young adult.

StillAdvance, Monday, 9 January 2017 15:57 (seven years ago) link

two weeks pass...

went to a double bill of the two latest ones today; dance of reality I enjoyed much more this time around, endless poetry started to wear me out after a while for the reasons others have given and also because I'd kind of had enough AJ by then - per xelab above, he undeniably has a childish streak (and is 1000% a hippy lol) & this can make two two-hour films feel like a real marathon. Pamela Flores (in a double role as mother/lover in EP) is easily the best thing about both films.

wins, Sunday, 29 January 2017 20:36 (seven years ago) link

Oh also as a fan of disgusted walkouts from Cambridge's merlot-and-popcorn types I had to lol at sitting through 3 hours of jodorowsky (inc an 18 rating for "strong torture" in dance of reality) only to decide that a woman menstruating is just too much

wins, Sunday, 29 January 2017 20:43 (seven years ago) link

Got the Dune documentary. A little annoyed that there was no mention of Henry Cow involvement.
Interesting about his hatred of film stars shaping the film industry. Makes you wonder why he thought putting up with Dali was a good idea other than respect for his work.

Richard Stanley's accent fascinates me. There should be a documentary about south African accents.

Don't think I really praised Dance Of Reality enough. I found that scene of the father working with the horse very moving when he looked so happy.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 12 February 2017 02:17 (seven years ago) link

dance of reality is seriously incredible.
i hope he finishes all the other films he has planned in this current series.

He comes across as so much more likeable and practical than Gilliam that one could almost imagine that he wasn't as completely impossible and then you remember he was gonna cast Dali and Welles and ah well t was a nice dream a beautiful dream
