man its so hard to watch him talk

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:41 (nine years ago) link

this whole stretch about the alleged rape -- which is never directly addressed -- is torturous and revolting

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:45 (nine years ago) link

"So kobe has to deal with these issues, these personal challenges. The black mamba steps on the court and does what he does."

kobe wrote birdman u guys.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:49 (nine years ago) link

yea man can't take it any more. turned it off as soon as they started that part and showed him looking "remorseful" on camera with the soft piano in the background.

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:49 (nine years ago) link

kobe on winning the 2008 championship: "[my teammates] had to learn to embrace that villain nature that's inside all of us. it gives you a platform to unleash your anger."

this man has murdered untold scores of his fellow humans.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:58 (nine years ago) link

sorry that was the 09 championship, deep apologies to boston.

"My brain cannot process failure. It will not process failure. Because if I have to look at myself and say 'I'm a failure', that's almost --- that's worse than death."

It's true he relied on the fadeaway midrange J later in his career but he attacked the hell out of the basket when he was young
― 龜, Sunday, March 1, 2015

watching him make those purely fearless cuts to the basket was absolutely the most exciting thing about his game for me

reading through everyone's liveposts on the kobe doc, can't tell whether it was unwatchable or fascinating

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 1 March 2015 18:54 (nine years ago) link

leaning toward the former

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 1 March 2015 18:55 (nine years ago) link

Unwatchable not fascinating

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:17 (nine years ago) link

And also the sequence of posts above capped by a shot of his...dented face

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:18 (nine years ago) link

And the plunger advice clay posted as the grace note. Basically ilh runs this

I think it's mostly the phrase "face dent" that seems kinda amusing, especially considering the fact that most humans experience facial cuts and lacerations, but russ being the 1st soldier of skynet that he is, it's a dent

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:23 (nine years ago) link

obviously get well soon tho robot russ

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:24 (nine years ago) link

gibson and butler now injured, does anybody give credence to theories that 1) thibs practices are too hard/often, 2) the chicago training staff is to some extent responsible (amin elhassen has mentioned this as a possibility several times since the start of this season) or perhaps that 3)thibs espousing the concept of rest has reached a critical point? is the pace of the schedule & travel the culrpit? interested in ur wildest hottest most speculative takes

pursuit of happiness (art), Sunday, 1 March 2015 20:40 (nine years ago) link

also wonder if anybody has done any kind of look at injury rates league-wide to determine if what chicago is experiencing now/this season is outside expected parameters, or if it just seems that way

pursuit of happiness (art), Sunday, 1 March 2015 20:41 (nine years ago) link

thibs def plays his players too many minutes this is a proven fact, extrapolating from that wld not be surprised if the entire org doesnt put enough effort into keeping players healthy

lag∞n, Sunday, 1 March 2015 20:42 (nine years ago) link

aside: lebron on the over-the-shoulder transition fast break block is probably my fav overall nba move

pursuit of happiness (art), Sunday, 1 March 2015 20:47 (nine years ago) link

thibodeau's obsessive nature is def a huge factor at this rate and as such it's kinda unsurprising that he has one of the highest career win percentages among active coaches but has not taken a title

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 1 March 2015 20:48 (nine years ago) link

re: melo horse have I ever bragged here abt how at 13 @ basketball camp I beat peak Tim Hardaway at horse in front of the whole camp and he got really pissed about it

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 22:32 (nine years ago) link

hah what?

call all destroyer, Sunday, 1 March 2015 22:33 (nine years ago) link

this game is fabulous btw everyone should watch it

call all destroyer, Sunday, 1 March 2015 22:33 (nine years ago) link

there was a campwide single elimination horse tourney and the winner got to play Tim Hardaway, the camp sponsor. This was like 1993 or 94? I was an excellent shooter as a kid and won the tourney and played Hardaway in front of everyone and beat him bc he was a shitty outside shooter at the time and I knew it. I was also *extremely tiny* for my age and this embarrassed him further, I assume, and when he missed the last shot he grabbed the board and spiked the ball against the gym wall super hard and the crowd went silent and he walked out of the door, it was really weird for everyone.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 22:38 (nine years ago) link

melo would have destroyed me at horse though, let's be real.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 22:39 (nine years ago) link

were you like incredibly nervous

call all destroyer, Sunday, 1 March 2015 22:40 (nine years ago) link

nah after blasting through the tourney basically untouched I was v confident and excited iirc. it was like "oh now I get to outshoot tim hardaway, cool."

the crowd was against me though, so that's like a couple hundred teenage boys yelling heinous stuff at you, which I don't think I'd experienced before or since.
