so glad russ is going to be ok, i was never his biggest fan but this recent run is converting me, he is just an insane tireless wind up basketball action figure.

iverson famously took it to the hoop, took many free throws, also shot from midrange a lot, also from deep, generally just tons of shooting

lag∞n, Sunday, 1 March 2015 02:59 (nine years ago) link

hahahah yeah . this is true too

this young wolves team is the future. adrian payne, not a great player but could be a nice role (24yo i guess)

KGs contributions to the wolves and the nba will now have absolutely nothing to do with his actual play on the court

kobe does some minor cussing in this doc, def maturing his brand

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 05:57 (nine years ago) link

watching this kobe thing, 10 minutes in, very boring

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 05:59 (nine years ago) link

kobe's press conference when he announced he was skipping college: "I've decided to take my talents to the NBA."

kobe so influential on our top athletes

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:04 (nine years ago) link

the way he stares directly at the camera during the talking head bits is really unnerving. it's a method usually used in docs to convey the idea that the subject is being interrogated or is judging you.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:06 (nine years ago) link

uh there's a part where second-year kobe is being interviewed by some old white dude and the guy says he should get a toothpaste endorsement "because you've got beautiful teeth." this was like 1997.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:16 (nine years ago) link

feel like we might need a poll to determine whether it was a shot or a pass

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:23 (nine years ago) link

wow those 4 airballs in a row by Kobe. don't remember that at all.

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:28 (nine years ago) link

btw the whole Colorado affair was bad because kobe let his family down

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:36 (nine years ago) link

man its so hard to watch him talk

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:41 (nine years ago) link

this whole stretch about the alleged rape -- which is never directly addressed -- is torturous and revolting

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:45 (nine years ago) link

"So kobe has to deal with these issues, these personal challenges. The black mamba steps on the court and does what he does."

kobe wrote birdman u guys.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:49 (nine years ago) link

yea man can't take it any more. turned it off as soon as they started that part and showed him looking "remorseful" on camera with the soft piano in the background.

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:49 (nine years ago) link

kobe on winning the 2008 championship: "[my teammates] had to learn to embrace that villain nature that's inside all of us. it gives you a platform to unleash your anger."

this man has murdered untold scores of his fellow humans.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:58 (nine years ago) link

sorry that was the 09 championship, deep apologies to boston.

Clay, Sunday, 1 March 2015 06:59 (nine years ago) link

"My brain cannot process failure. It will not process failure. Because if I have to look at myself and say 'I'm a failure', that's almost --- that's worse than death."

-- Kobe Bryant on failure.

It's true he relied on the fadeaway midrange J later in his career but he attacked the hell out of the basket when he was young
― 龜, Sunday, March 1, 2015

watching him make those purely fearless cuts to the basket was absolutely the most exciting thing about his game for me

reading through everyone's liveposts on the kobe doc, can't tell whether it was unwatchable or fascinating

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 1 March 2015 18:54 (nine years ago) link

leaning toward the former

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 1 March 2015 18:55 (nine years ago) link

Unwatchable not fascinating

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 1 March 2015 18:55 (nine years ago) link

close one in the first sunday matinee game, deandre setting multiple records

Guys injuries are never funny but...goddamn I cannot stop laughing about Russell's face dent

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:17 (nine years ago) link

And also the sequence of posts above capped by a shot of his...dented face

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:18 (nine years ago) link

And the plunger advice clay posted as the grace note. Basically ilh runs this

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Sunday, 1 March 2015 19:19 (nine years ago) link

I think it's mostly the phrase "face dent" that seems kinda amusing, especially considering the fact that most humans experience facial cuts and lacerations, but russ being the 1st soldier of skynet that he is, it's a dent
