Milwaukee needs someone who can score, that's gotta be their #1 priority.

well that's gonna be jabari

if the bucks didn't wanna resign knight and also didn't want to bring along another rookie i don't think the move to get MCW is terrible or anything

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 February 2015 19:40 (nine years ago) link

that said if they could have gotten d'angelo russell or emmanuel mudiay instead?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 February 2015 19:41 (nine years ago) link

Brandon Knight and Brandan Wright are on the same team. v confusing

polyphonic, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 19:49 (nine years ago) link

I think the Bucks need to focus on losing, and who better to jumpstart that effort than proven loser MCW

polyphonic, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 19:57 (nine years ago) link

i get that argument but i think if you have the young talent milwaukee has and it's not like you're going to be in the top five anyway the benefits of making playoffs are worth the four or five spots you're costing yrself in the draft.

i just think at some point you need to actually develop young talent and some measure of progress and experience can be worth drafting sixteenth instead of twelfth depending on the draft (mind you i'm hoping and praying the nets slip back out of the eight seed and into that 11-12 area at worst cuz i would love justise winslow on the hawks). this situation is somewhat specific to milwaukee, they already have some of the pieces of the team they want to eventually have and they'd be very unlikely to draft high, w/ someone like the magic where you also believe you have some of the pieces but the season's fucked and you're looking at the top of draft then tank away. i guess what i'm saying is that sure you don't want to be that in between club (esp in the case of a market like milwaukee) but you don't want to get so comfortable w/ being a cellar dweller you turn into the old clippers or kings, i think even from an analytics standpoint it has the potential of distorting yr data so that you can't evaluate yr players as well as you'd like.

field is griz, thunder, spurs and a miracle. that number's high but not absurd to me. playoffs a ways away.

balls, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:11 (nine years ago) link

balls how fucked do you think the sixers are

, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:13 (nine years ago) link

the point abt the field in that poll is that its ridiculous to have two out of the three championship contenders coming from the east, shd prob just have all three from the west

imo neither playing a few playoff games not moving four spots in the middle of the draft will prob have much long term impact on yr team, making the playoffs is fun tho and def good for yr team from fan support pov

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:22 (nine years ago) link

cld maybe make some free agent think hey the bucks are onto something over there i guess too

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:23 (nine years ago) link

Hawks and GSW are there bcz they're leading their conferences. Cavs are there bcz fans would pout if LeBron were left out. The field is there bcz it's irksome to list all 30 teams.

Aimless, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:24 (nine years ago) link

in short i wld take a low playoff seed over being at the bottom of the lottery but just for laffs

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:24 (nine years ago) link

balls otm about the bucks i think. they should go for it and keep at it

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:27 (nine years ago) link

its good everyone thinks that cause they are prob gonna keep at it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:29 (nine years ago) link

i wld not want ilh to be upset abt the fate of the 2014-15 milwaukee bucks, also they are so far out of the lottery they wld have to try really hard to miss the playoffs

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:30 (nine years ago) link

i keep forgetting that this hinkie stuff has only been going on like two years so not too bad. getting anything for mcw is a plus so the 'omg the sixers are rebuilding again' stuff didn't bother me, noel has apparently looked good, trading mcdaniels is a shame but more of a result of a prior fuckup and hinkie getting outplayed by that agent. ppl were like 'i do. not. like that trade.' about it but someone on the bs report speculated that the agent made it clear they intended to play the market and yeah the sixers could match but it would fuck up working relationships or whatever so they accepted the fuckup and moved on. i still haven't really seen much to indicate hinkie has any real eye for talent though, it's not like he's been cherry picking the d-league or undervalued assets on other teams and not finding some way to exploit that unused cap space doesn't make me think he's real savvy though that might be due to the owner or something. still one more year of this and i'd be thinking 'ok do you have an actual vision for what type of team you're trying to create or are you just plugging in the best of whatever comes by and hope the whole thing coheres somehow'.

balls, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:32 (nine years ago) link

admittedly i did sorta think taking MCW was an inexplicable midseason course-correction to tankachusetts for a second, but with this many wins already its m/l pointless

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:33 (nine years ago) link

im not sold on hinkie but hes def made some good moves, trading jrue holiday for noel + pick, trading mcw for the lakers pick, grabbing kj mcdaniels in the second round, taking an injured otherwise consensus #1 pick in embiid is likely gonna be a monster grand slam home run, i think saric will be good too, also the strategy of total tank was prob right for the situation

who know if he can put it all together or not, the aspect of taking injured players so they dont play and make the team better is prob overrated since rookies p much always suck anyway, but who knows maybe thats just a media concoction and has more to do with the fact that he has the leeway to be bad for a while more than part of the plan to be bad

convincing the owners to let him do this is in itself p impressive

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:48 (nine years ago) link

on the other side of the ledger hes a business school attending ted talk watching bozo http://deadspin.com/the-76ers-are-run-by-a-ridiculous-ted-humping-moron-1686613279

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:51 (nine years ago) link

not finding some way to exploit that unused cap space doesn't make me think he's real savvy though

― balls, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 5:32 PM (19 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

he has fwiw exploited the cap space via facilitating other teams trades/contract dumps in exchange for second round picks, which seems to have been his plan all along

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:53 (nine years ago) link

i guess if u get like every pick in the second round u will prob find a good player

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:54 (nine years ago) link

the whole thing yday about how they only signed thomas robinson to get to 90% of the cap and avoid the salary floor penalty (aka paying more to largely underpaid young players) seemed pretty scummy

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:58 (nine years ago) link

well he also got thomas robinson

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:59 (nine years ago) link

i mean like it makes no sense to to it just out of spite

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:00 (nine years ago) link

how do you build a culture that free agents want to be a part of? Anyone with space can offer a free agent a max deal. They have a great coach and a good young core but how do you convince a young star that hinkie isn't going to trade him a year later for forty second rounders.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:00 (nine years ago) link

u build a culture free agents want to b part of by either a. winning a lot b. giving them more money than anyone else c. having yr team be in a cool city

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:03 (nine years ago) link

d. being in their home town if theyre some sort of precious fool

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:03 (nine years ago) link

so how do they (a) win next year

polyphonic, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:05 (nine years ago) link

so they have to dump all their scrill into the new salary cap on whoever the marquee is then / hope some prime baller is from philadelphia.

philly hasn't really been a blockbuster FA destination since moses malone

pursuit of happiness (art), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:05 (nine years ago) link

so.......their only hope is A then? and only by sometime in 2021 or so

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:06 (nine years ago) link

their plan at the moment seems to be to develop their own talent

i mean signing a super star free agent is not the only way to win in the nba folks!

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:07 (nine years ago) link

tho tbf it is one way that has been demonstrated previously to work, i'm not sure the same can be said abt hinkieball

...yet

pursuit of happiness (art), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:09 (nine years ago) link

moreyball is a good model, obviously. but they need to find that harden analog and make the deal. who would that be?

polyphonic, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:11 (nine years ago) link

guys u realize they have one potential superstar on their roster already and are in line for a very high draft pick again this year

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:11 (nine years ago) link

i mean drafting yr own superstars is actually a thing sucessful teams have done before

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:12 (nine years ago) link

also trading for them

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:13 (nine years ago) link

i mean how ever u get them what matters is that u have them

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 23:13 (nine years ago) link

who should they get though
