6 RANDOM FX is distinctly not random! I feel taken advantage of.

xpost with the µ-ZIQ thread; looks like Mike Paradinas was inspired to upload some of his '80s recordings: https://soundcloud.com/mikep

Friend of mine noticed this about one of the new ones: "1.5 Dp5 Beats"

https://soundcloud.com/user48736353001/15-dp5-beats

Music is such a powerful memory trigger. RDJ started up the gravy train again yesterday, and this 'new' track was one of them. I instantly recognized it as being one of the unreleased tracks he played when I saw him in San Francisco in early November 1993 at the Galleria as part of the N.A.S.A. "See The Light" tour along with Mark Gage's Vapourspace project, Orbital, and Moby.

They were supposed to have played the night before out near Marina Del Rey at Circa '93, but the lovely L.A. Fire Marshalls shut it down even before nightfall. My ex and I thought, no way we're missing this - so we jumped in the car the next morning and hot-footed it up to S.F. One of the best decisions of my life, in retrospect.

My dearly departed friend Dwayne Goettel drove down from Vancouver with Phil Western for that show, and afterwards we talked for a bit - and then they turned right around and drove all the way back home!

He then added a link of the live performance:

he organized 11 into a playlist "saw 1.5" - a sign he's gonna be breaking this stuff up? very cool

Abstinence Hawk (frogbs), Sunday, 1 March 2015 05:28 (nine years ago) link

his descriptive note for the saw 1.5 playlist:

"there are more, inc. versions of the tracks that were released on saw1, those will come out on a re-release one day hopefully, so saving those for that."

has anyone taken the time to listen to all of these and write some assessments yet? i've probably gotten through 25 tracks and I don't feel like I've done anything more than skim

yeah i've listened to the first 40-50 of them a bunch and i like them a lot

brimstead, Sunday, 1 March 2015 05:49 (nine years ago) link

favorite probably is 2tone. and the one with the julie andrews sample.

brimstead, Sunday, 1 March 2015 05:49 (nine years ago) link

I started after the first 110 were put into sets, i.e. have got all the next 63 plus "Afx origTheme" in an iTunes folder. Focusing on those. The tracks are randomly organised so vary widely in age/style but works better for me that way. May get to the rest later.

I saw that N.A.S.A. gig in SF in 93 too!

ridiculous experience, that mall getting temporarily re-zoned into a rave was way weird, AFX killed it with heavy distorted chugging jams

not quite what you are asking for, but, dj food has sorted out a solid steel mix of the ones he likes.

You might find something on the Reddit forum: http://www.reddit.com/r/aphextwin/ There was a Mega link doing the rounds a few weeks ago.
'15 sekonda' must be one of the longest tracks at over 10 mins and it's ace. I would rather have had a double (or triple!) album comp of the cream of this stuff over last year's Syro.

I collected all the tracks posted since groovypanda posted the link to the first 112 tracks somewhere upthread. So if you have those two you should be good.

I don't know why the artwork didn't come through :(

Thanks Lucas, yes.

Oh, and btw DJ Food: what use is a 86 minute mix mp3? Slightly too long to burn to cdr!

Gurrr...

ideal for a c90

massaman gai, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 13:54 (nine years ago) link

er, no. a c90 is 2x45 with a gap in the middle.

i think the last time i burnt audio cds was when i djed but i've since found out that the decks in question would happily play mp3s off the same cds.

oh, and when giving stuff to other people, especially those non-cyber friends. 20p of cdr is still the cheapest option.

millmeister, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 14:26 (nine years ago) link

I mean, I can put it onto a 'phone and play it via a UHF transmitter gizmo, I do that with my Spotify occasionally..

Mark G, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 15:22 (nine years ago) link

a c90 is 2x45 with a gap in the middle.

for those who are gap averse, you could use a c180 and have it on both sides.
IMAGINE THAT !

brimstead, Thursday, 5 March 2015 00:19 (nine years ago) link

for folks who are looking to find an easier way into this stuff, I recommend a playlist of the longer (5+ mins) tracks to start with, a lot of them are amazing. by my count there's 67, not as daunting as 180 or whatever we're up to

put it on shuffle and let it roll, I'm doing it right now

if you go up to 6 mins you miss Plinky Plonk, Ssnb, early morning clissold, somewhereOTTGTBOG and dulcimer dub, don't do that

sleeve, Thursday, 5 March 2015 01:26 (nine years ago) link

I just put them into alphabet order, that's as random as any, and easier to keep tabs on.

Its basically ten CDR discs of the old playable format.

eventually a box set, I made the first one so far. Sounds cool..

They should release all 10 hours of this stuff as a Japanese bonus set. Like, re-release Syro with 10 other bonus CDs.

I wonder if I should buy this as like an investment piece? The first 4 Analords and the LFO/AFX split I picked up seem to be fetching a little bit on Discogs at least

For as much money as I wanted to throw Richard's way between 2002-2014, but couldn't due to the dearth of releases, I'm happy to finally be able to do so now.

Now Mike Paradinis has taken up the mantle and gone even further back:

https://soundcloud.com/mikep

including was is supposed to be a 1982 recording from when he was 10 years old:

https://soundcloud.com/mikep/sets/short-circuit-life-in-style-1982

also tons of mid 80s pre-rave new wave-esque type demos.
