saw the buzzcocks on their 1st reunion tour, circa 1999. they put on a great show, which i attended with several old friends and an (not my) anal masseuse. so yeah, them too.

Like, is it a baggy/dance revival festival or is it a SwaggerofOasis festival? Those people to me seem like they'd no longer be the same?

Given who the headliners are, it's the former, and it's not like 808 State and The Orb don't fit into that in some way, it's hardly like they've booked Jeff Mills or Basic Channel. If anything the incoherence sets in further down the bill, the gap between the Telescopes and arse end of Britpop shit like Space feels much bigger, but it's not like the demographics of either fanbase are large enough to justify their own festival at this stage.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:14 (four years ago) link

Judging by the state of the people trying to get into Bez's Acid House at Glastonbury the contingent of ageing baggy ravers off the leash for the weekend is still sizeable.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:20 (four years ago) link

Space aren't playing, it's the Space Monkeys(!)

How the fuck do you get away with calling yourselves Oasis UK, even if you are a tribute band?

Broth Viking (dog latin), Monday, 23 February 2015 15:20 (four years ago) link

Space are on there as well, between Cud and the Lo-Fidelity oh god kill me now.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:22 (four years ago) link

Both Space and the Space Monkeys are playing.

Looking at it again, MDC is right, I think I just associate 'Shiiiine' with particularly Oasis-type things, but their use of it was actually off the back of 10000 earlier, baggier shine songs.

I win

I love the tag line for this: "Where We Just Rock"

and that red font that's used makes the line-up nearly illegible. (on purpose?)

You do win.

I can only imagine the crowd for this.

kwhitehead, Monday, 23 February 2015 21:47 (four years ago) link

Also, promoter/webguy apparently thinks it's still 2014. Terrible line-up but I find it strange that Aerosmith has no where better to play than in the Cadott, WIS in the middle of July.

Saw it on Twitter, 1000 responses that say "Charlotte H left Ash in 2011 and Jamie T has a female drummer"

So, yeah.

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 00:13 (four years ago) link

I'm surprised there's anyone in Britain who doesn't know that Jamie T has a female drummer.

Great to see Bez on the same bill as Space Monkeys, one of whom he had a pre-arranged bare knuckle fight with a few years ago. Look at him bleeding like a pig
http://www.donnelly24.com/images/bez/bez-3.jpg

HAPPY Mondays star BEZ hits rock bottom as he is battered in a brutal bare-knuckle brawl.
The dancer - real name MARK BERRY - took part in the sickening underground scrap this week after a longrunning feud over his ex-fiancee Monica Ward.

He suffered angry-looking cuts and bruises in the organised bout - as did his furious love rival, SPACE MONKEYS bassist DOM MORRISON.

The fight was only stopped when a paid referee stepped in after 15 punishing minutes.
The shocking snaps, taken in a scrapyard office in central Manchester, mark the latest grim development in a bleak year for potless ex-Celebrity Big Brother winner Bez, 46.

In August city magistrates issued a two-year restraining order preventing him from contacting ex Monica, 43.

He was then fined £140 for breaking the order by sending her text messages last month.

Morrison is now thought to be in a relationship with Monica - with whom Bez has a two-year-old son, Leo.

A source said: "The fight's been the talk of Manchester for weeks. Two local brothers Anthony and Christopher Donnelly were involved in putting Bez and Dom in the same room to sort out their problems.

"It was really bitter and they only wanted to sort it out one way - with an old-fashioned straightener.

"They went at it like animals with a lot of blood and sweat. Bez looked cut up but gave as good as he got. It was a draw in the end and they both managed to walk away."

The source added: "Bez is having a horrible time right now. He's struggling to keep on top of things." Bez made his name in the '80s and '90s with his manic dancing and maracas with The Happy Mondays.

this is their best event surely:

https://files.list.co.uk/images/i/imaginarium-x3-stargateimg-lst157034.jpg

For Imaginarium's third birthday, celebrate all that's sci-fi, Egyptian, mythical, god/goddesses and just regular out-there. A night of full-costumed, full-on house, techno, goth, cyber rave.
Imaginarium X3: Stargate:IMG

After scans reveal an unknown energy source on a forgotten desert planet the Voodoo Lynch Mob descend to the surface where they find a strange portal-like ring half submerged in the dunes. Deploying the crew and a brace of shuttles the relic is hauled back to the orbiting Imaginarium for further studies.

The Imaginarium's engineers hook it up to the starship's central computer but as they start to run tests there is a huge power surge, the lights go out and a golden, winged figure steps out of the gate. Wind and lightning swirl around the cargo bay and spheres of pulsating light fly out and enter the bodies of the Mob and their crew.

Guttural voices spring forth from the suddenly golden-robed Mob: 'I am Ra' 'I am Anubis' … It seems the captains have been possessed and it's time for an Egyptian adventure in Outer Rave Space.

Featuring the finest in London's underground DJ talent, incredible dancers, the finest costumes, the heaviest dance floor on the scene, full dungeon, couples area, interactive performances, fully custom decor and the friendliest, most accepting crowd in this greatest of earth's cities Imaginarium is ready to once again rock your body as we celebrate three years of Imaginarium.

Dress code: Egyptian mythology, sci-fi soldiers, gods and goddesses, creatures of gold, ancient warriors, slaves, fetish, goth, cyber, rave, sci fi or just plain out there.

No effort, no entry: no streetwear, just be fabulous.

yeah you're right of course. there's a pretty big rave gear / dress-up-like-a-cyber-pirate shop in brighton and i always wonder how it keeps going - guess it's mostly nights like that. maybe i should go in there one day on some sort of psytrance mr ben adventure

let me be your fan taytay (NickB), Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:21 (four years ago) link

every town must have a small but hardcore contingent of cybergoths and judging by the average indoor market, the clothing must be relatively cheap. the metalworks is a pretty big venue afaik, right?

Unheimlich Manouevre (dog latin), Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:27 (four years ago) link

Not really. It's the Slimelight club. I've seen bands like Chrome & Extreme Noise Terror there. Capacity is apparently 750 though.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:32 (four years ago) link

It looks like a pound shop version of the FKA Twigs Two Weeks video, and given the Twigs crowd the other week appeared to be like 50% 20-year old lesbian goths I'd say they'd got it pretty much on-trend for their market.

Matt DC, Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:43 (four years ago) link

three weeks pass...

not as bad as the OP, but the '15 lollapalooza lineup is pretty dreadful.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:14 (four years ago) link

But, for some reason, 3 day passes appear to be sold out. Not that I'm interested or anything...

kwhitehead, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:23 (four years ago) link

well yeah the 4-5 big headliners are reliable sellers, but that doesn't make it a good festival.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:26 (four years ago) link

Looking upthread I reckon T still wins this one, would sooner listen to metal and Macca than banterladrock any day of the week. And I really hate metal and Macca
