hes a very good defender tho obvs currently overrated on that end, as he is just generally, this is what happens to role players on great teams, i watched paul milsap who is better than him btw own the hell out of him about a week ago, and milsap doesnt even have good size which is drays biggest weakness

when considering his D keep in mind that the warriors are a generally very good defensive team who in fact lead the league last year in that category while starting david lee

yeah i mean the overrating of role players on great teams is definitely a real phenomenon historically but at least theoretically the advantage of real plus minus is that it controls for quality of teammates, which is something old lineup stats like offensive rating didn't do which led to guys like tiago splitter leading the league in offense and david west being one of the best defensive players according to their system, when in fact these guys were just helped by playing with a bunch of killer lineups. with the new one that's supposed to be less of an issue tho multicollinearity i guess can't be ruled out as an explanation

imo defensive stats or just nba stats in general have to be contextualized, like how does the player fit into the scheme, if someone has great defensive stats and is single handedly protecting the rim with an inferior support cast ala orlando dwight then fine, or like prime lebron capable of shutting down derick rose at will

the warriors scheme seem particularly teamy, they start a bunch of long quick mid sized guys and switch like crazy, ive watched them a bunch and from what ive seen drays game looks much more competent than it does dominant defensively, hes not out there shutting people down or snuffing out plays single handedly or making up for teammates weaknesses, he moving his feet making the right rotations keeping his hands up and just playing very solid

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:27 (nine years ago) link

like i dont think if you put him on a very weak defensive team he wld make too much differnce

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:28 (nine years ago) link

basically he shd just stay on the warriors forever and grow rich

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:39 (nine years ago) link

like hes shooting 33% from three this year which is preeety borderline (while taking 4 a game lol too many!), you can live with it from yr fifth option pf tho, but what wld he be shooting from there if he didnt have steph and clay drawing all the defenders

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:42 (nine years ago) link

you guys I was being sarcastic about dreymond in that post lol

my actual feeling is probably monta deserves it over dirk but I am past the point of caring now that there's 40 all stars

i mean the thing about him is he has a very particular set of skills
yes, but can he hunt down your daughter's kidnappers? i don't think so

Nhex, Thursday, 12 February 2015 18:53 (nine years ago) link

was worried for a while no one was gonna make the taken joke that goon inadvertently set up upthread

slothroprhymes, Thursday, 12 February 2015 19:22 (nine years ago) link

this naturally leads me to wonder who in the current NBA would be best equipped to hunt down their daughter's kidnappers

slothroprhymes, Thursday, 12 February 2015 19:23 (nine years ago) link

it was advertent actually xp

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 19:25 (nine years ago) link

*narrows eyes dramatically* a likely story

in any case, i feel like i can see john wall as an action hero, and not just bc of the tv spot he did with liam neesons to promote the christmas games (altho thats definitely a factor)

slothroprhymes, Thursday, 12 February 2015 19:45 (nine years ago) link

Lol ya nobody uses that phrase without hearing Liam Neesons say it in their heads dawgs

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Thursday, 12 February 2015 19:50 (nine years ago) link

Xp double Neesons that's my shiiiii*explodes*

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Thursday, 12 February 2015 19:50 (nine years ago) link

Let's just admit that this all star game is totally ridiculous with the number of injuries and the only reason to watch it is gonna be to see the Gasol bros give each other dap at tip off and maybe watch curry korver and Dirk throw up some ridic threes from 30 feet out

- Now, the next part is very important. They're going to take you ... to the Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

lol

There's literally no reason to watch the all star game but i usually do anyway. Goon otm about draymond too despite being played like a fiddle by clay. I think he is a 10-12 mill a year guy but i bet they pay more. Cant pay him that Klay type money hell no way. I think he deserves what bogut is making
http://hoopshype.com/salaries/golden_state.htm

His offensive numbers have come down to earth. He really is not a good shooter but has made improvements year to year and doesn't seem like the type of guy to rest on what skills he has. I like him cos outside of Bogut the warriors have been kinda soft and nice and he brings that manic edge and tenacity that teams need.

slothroprhymes, Friday, 13 February 2015 01:16 (nine years ago) link

well, it was evenly matched, bulls seem in control rn & look good but momentum could easily swing other way

lebron has been more and more careless with the ball lately

Haven't really watched the cavs since they got better but is their defense improved or are bron and uncdrew just being good on offense now? Is bron old bron on d now?

Steph def def (Spottie), Friday, 13 February 2015 02:20 (nine years ago) link

bron playing better but also the trades made a big difference, they have an actual logical nba starting five now

lag∞n, Friday, 13 February 2015 02:30 (nine years ago) link

ya I think for someone like him who isn't the uh most cerebral player as I've said before, there's a lot of truth to all the "rhythm", "comfort", "reflex" clichés.

assume trusting his body must be huge at this point too

he's not taking any of those inefficient 3s/long jumper 2s, seems to indicate he trusts himself to score in the paint
