knight is not that good man come on. if we're clamoring for brandon knight then the choices are pretty sad

drays a nice player but pretty much defines complimentary u guys have warriors fever

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 13:51 (nine years ago) link

heres a little thought experiment for all u draymond green truthers out there, visualize a team with him as its best player, lol

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 13:53 (nine years ago) link

is he even the best warrior who didnt make the allstar team, no

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 13:54 (nine years ago) link

the all star game is for stars you can tell from its name "all star game" which means a game comprised all of star players

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 13:56 (nine years ago) link

this is like last year when ppl were saying lance had a case

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 13:59 (nine years ago) link

dirk is a 12 time all-star future hof'er and this is probably his last appearance and he's representing the only 30 win team that would otherwise send no one to the game and he's spent most of this season leap frogging other hof'ers on the all time scoring list and he's still the canonical stretch 4 so basically there's a p good arg to be made for his being the third injury replacement

sure but you could say the same thing about klay thompson

some players legit are more valuable when the talent around them is better, particularly guys like dray or korver who can't really create their own shot but do so many things well that don't show up in box scores

sae nnwurd - throw sum mo ka (k3vin k.), Thursday, 12 February 2015 15:51 (nine years ago) link

maybe we shd just renamed it the all guys who do little things that dont show up in the box score game

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 15:58 (nine years ago) link

korver in the ASG is p much a joke but its the east so i understand the thinking

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 15:59 (nine years ago) link

klays team wld be much better than dray or korvers btw cause hes a much better player than either of them

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:00 (nine years ago) link

tho he is def obvs obvs benefiting from being in a team that is so majorly in the zone right now

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:01 (nine years ago) link

i mean imagine him jacking up contested threes on the wolves right now

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:01 (nine years ago) link

tho re korver at least he is doing something legendary that deserves some recognition

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:03 (nine years ago) link

idk man that just seems like a very old fashioned way of looking at the game, defense matters and draymond is a beast on that end and every metric backs that up. he can't be a first option on offense but he does a lot of things well

sae nnwurd - throw sum mo ka (k3vin k.), Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:44 (nine years ago) link

he's basically what they wanted iggy to be when they signed him

Steph def def (Spottie), Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:49 (nine years ago) link

guys he is not a star nba player this is not that difficult

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:56 (nine years ago) link

hes a very good defender tho obvs currently overrated on that end, as he is just generally, this is what happens to role players on great teams, i watched paul milsap who is better than him btw own the hell out of him about a week ago, and milsap doesnt even have good size which is drays biggest weakness

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 16:59 (nine years ago) link

when considering his D keep in mind that the warriors are a generally very good defensive team who in fact lead the league last year in that category while starting david lee

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:01 (nine years ago) link

the warriors will max him out as they should all things considered, but id be very interesting to see some other team take a stab at him thinking hell put them over the top

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:03 (nine years ago) link

i mean the thing about him is he has a very particular set of skills, hes a big man who can run defend shoot handle the ball and play two positions, those traits allow teams a lot of flexibility which is super valuable, but those skills are only valuable in the context of a team already having star players, which is why he is a role player, he is a star role player, nominate him to the ilh hof lmao

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:13 (nine years ago) link

if the warriors meet the griz in the playoffs and cant find a way to run one of their big men off the floor dray cld be in trouble

yeah i mean the overrating of role players on great teams is definitely a real phenomenon historically but at least theoretically the advantage of real plus minus is that it controls for quality of teammates, which is something old lineup stats like offensive rating didn't do which led to guys like tiago splitter leading the league in offense and david west being one of the best defensive players according to their system, when in fact these guys were just helped by playing with a bunch of killer lineups. with the new one that's supposed to be less of an issue tho multicollinearity i guess can't be ruled out as an explanation

sae nnwurd - throw sum mo ka (k3vin k.), Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:20 (nine years ago) link

imo defensive stats or just nba stats in general have to be contextualized, like how does the player fit into the scheme, if someone has great defensive stats and is single handedly protecting the rim with an inferior support cast ala orlando dwight then fine, or like prime lebron capable of shutting down derick rose at will

the warriors scheme seem particularly teamy, they start a bunch of long quick mid sized guys and switch like crazy, ive watched them a bunch and from what ive seen drays game looks much more competent than it does dominant defensively, hes not out there shutting people down or snuffing out plays single handedly or making up for teammates weaknesses, he moving his feet making the right rotations keeping his hands up and just playing very solid

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:27 (nine years ago) link

like i dont think if you put him on a very weak defensive team he wld make too much differnce

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:28 (nine years ago) link

basically he shd just stay on the warriors forever and grow rich

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:39 (nine years ago) link

like hes shooting 33% from three this year which is preeety borderline (while taking 4 a game lol too many!), you can live with it from yr fifth option pf tho, but what wld he be shooting from there if he didnt have steph and clay drawing all the defenders

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:42 (nine years ago) link

you guys I was being sarcastic about dreymond in that post lol

my actual feeling is probably monta deserves it over dirk but I am past the point of caring now that there's 40 all stars

Clay, Thursday, 12 February 2015 18:03 (nine years ago) link
