lots of fakes have been coming out, it's annoying

brimstead, Sunday, 1 February 2015 08:30 (nine years ago) link

From WATMM, 1.2 GB (110 tracks d/l from Soundcloud - i.e. 320 versions - plus rips of the two that were only up briefly):

groovypanda, Sunday, 1 February 2015 12:16 (nine years ago) link

so much of this stuff is so friggin good

soyrev, Sunday, 1 February 2015 12:25 (nine years ago) link

Debating whether or not I can justify being a little annoyed that after spending forever tagging and numbering and arranging all those tracks, the 320 versions appears and I have to do it again. Leaning ... not justified.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 1 February 2015 14:56 (nine years ago) link

The guy on WATMM who uploaded the link in groovypanda's post says they're tagged:

manmower, on 01 Feb 2015 - 06:46 AM, said:

Finished organizing my files, and I've uploaded them in case anyone wants them, free account though so I don't know how much bandwidth/how many downloads I'm allowed:

https://mega.co.nz/#...Fk1r9K2TO1kb4Yo

112 tracks (110 downloaded from Soundcloud + the 128 kbps streaming versions of the 2 that were only briefly available).

I've left the filenames unchanged, but tags are as follows.
Artist: AFX (it's the hashtag he added to nearly every track and I thought it unnecessary to make exceptions for the couple of aphex/pbod/... ones).
Album: user48736353001
Track number: Order they were uploaded
Title: As on Soundcloud (so sometimes different from the file name)

I also added his comments and embedded the artwork for each track.

So this has been a fascinating exercise in what really makes an Aphex Twin album. I guess it's possible/probable that each officially released collection really has been just that: a selection of tracks he simply decided to collect together at that given moment before moving on to the next thing. Like, I suppose it's possible SAWII is exactly what it says, and could have easily been twice as long (or totally different) on a different day.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 1 February 2015 15:34 (nine years ago) link

There are very few ( maybe two ) negligible tracks in all this. The rest are terrific. Release of the year so far for me and it may be hard to beat.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Sunday, 1 February 2015 15:37 (nine years ago) link

I'd like to see someone try to break these up into 'album-sized' chunks based on the era - seems to be a lot of 88-91 stuff on here

only been able to listen to like 10 or so of these so far but they're really good, especially for stuff that's just one in a hundred archive tracks. so far I've enjoyed them more than I have the stuff on the lost Caustic Window LP. listening to "22 Pearls" now, it's more beat-heavy than most of the stuff on SAW 85-92, but absolutely gorgeous, wow

Abstinence Hawk (frogbs), Sunday, 1 February 2015 16:02 (nine years ago) link

the order he uploaded them in is loosely chronological, SAW 85-92ish stuff in the beginning, ICBYD stuff in the middle, drill n bass later on

the "girl boy" dark version is kind of hilarious

brimstead, Sunday, 1 February 2015 19:38 (nine years ago) link

35 japan = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paGDcjsoTLQ ???

StanM, Sunday, 1 February 2015 20:09 (nine years ago) link

(oh, nevermind I guess - apparently, he's done that before. Give a band one of his own tracks and tell them it's a remix)

StanM, Sunday, 1 February 2015 20:14 (nine years ago) link

hah yeah, "space beat" is a prev released remix as well

brimstead, Sunday, 1 February 2015 20:15 (nine years ago) link

dowloaded all this stuff last night & supplemented w/ "5 girl boy dark version" & "4 red calx" @ 128 kbps. looking for confirmation: the following are <320 too, right?

"10 shit smothered" - 174 vbr
"(vocoderdisco)" - 160
"6 step up to cornwall" thru "2 dual acid ab6" (5 trax) - 256
"vibert remix 5 edit max c" - 192

StanM, Sunday, 1 February 2015 20:25 (nine years ago) link

About half way through a proper listen at last. Really lovely mix of things.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 2 February 2015 02:27 (nine years ago) link

whoa, i wonder if the playlist sequence at https://soundcloud.com/user48736353001/sets/all is more or less chronological compared to the upload order

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 2 February 2015 02:32 (nine years ago) link

4 bit is banging as fuck. the bass timbres, contours, shapes (etc.) on Syro are in a league of their own.. is there anybody else out there using FM synthesis to such stimulating effect?

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Monday, 2 February 2015 17:51 (nine years ago) link

I was thinking much the same thing today about that track. It's a remarkable bit of work and no, I don't think there's anyone to touch him.

Keith, Monday, 2 February 2015 22:30 (nine years ago) link

He's restarted.

omg stop, seriously

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 22:23 (nine years ago) link

like this is complete oversaturation; I don't know how to even make sense of all of this. How many total tracks had he even released prior to this? Like 150?

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 22:24 (nine years ago) link

I mean he has essentially DOUBLED is recorded output in the last week

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 22:24 (nine years ago) link

this time there are download links for the tracks!

"SomewhereOTTGTBAG" and "28 Organ" and "sline" are all amazing discoveries from the last batch

parakeetal pancreasface (sleeve), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 22:27 (nine years ago) link

ahh... more? but my hard drive only has so much space.

yeah "28 organ" is stunning.

ʎɐpunsunɾɐɔ (cajunsunday), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 22:34 (nine years ago) link

dammit I jinxed the download links

parakeetal pancreasface (sleeve), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:05 (nine years ago) link

they're working for me, did they vanish for you?

Brakhage, Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:11 (nine years ago) link

he just added them (to the last few tracks)

parakeetal pancreasface (sleeve), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:20 (nine years ago) link

listened to all of these on a road trip to LA this weekend

did get a little maxed out around tracks 65-80 but it picked back up again, it made for a fantastic drive.

as surreal as someone mailing you a copy of your college yearbook, only when you open it all the pictures are different and it's four times as long

Milton Parker, Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:31 (nine years ago) link

what order did you use for the tracks?

parakeetal pancreasface (sleeve), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:32 (nine years ago) link

2 Dual Acid Ab6

this is interesting, i would like to know what milton p thinks of it

anima corrective (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:32 (nine years ago) link

ha xxp!

anima corrective (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:33 (nine years ago) link

order of sc upload

the run of moodular acid tracks were highlights, could have gone on four times as long

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 00:04 (nine years ago) link

the most immediately interesting tracks here are i would assume from 95ish and recall the discussion upthread about the software music explosion and the period immediately prior to it

anima corrective (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 00:07 (nine years ago) link

Okay so he's up to 130 now, plus the two he took down.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 01:53 (nine years ago) link

homina homina

holy heck, this is like the best late bday present EVER

brimstead, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 02:23 (nine years ago) link

lol dont you have enough to be getting on with for now

anima corrective (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 02:24 (nine years ago) link

if only he had just put up 400 tracks all at once without soundcloud's horrible UI

brimstead, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 02:28 (nine years ago) link

this is all so generous that he probably feels the need to introduce a little bit of inconvenience

anima corrective (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 02:31 (nine years ago) link

― brimstead, Tuesday, February 3, 2015 6:23 PM (5 minutes ago)

yeah, but i'm greedy/compulsive, want 320s

Considering his numerous statements involving the word "hundreds", I won't be surprised in the least if it continues on for a few more weeks. Stoked!

octobeard, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 03:11 (nine years ago) link

looking at his comments it feels a bit haphazard/unplanned? only adds to the joy imo

140 on Soundcloud now. All downloadable apart from most the recent two (14 Floating∞ and hilo) which I assume he'll enable at some point.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 08:39 (nine years ago) link

Actually hilo has d/l link. It's the latest three that don't have

groovypanda, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 08:41 (nine years ago) link

He's also had a track blocked by the notorious Soundcloud police:

Our automatic content protection system has detected that your sound "FmsubBass" may contain the following copyright content: "Absence" by Riva Starr, owned by George V Records. As a result, its publication on your profile has been blocked.

no it doesn't!

Where is this in the run? I've listened to the first sixteen or so now (presumably SAW1 and Digeridoo-era) and it's all nice but with one or two glaring exceptions I've not heard much that was screaming to be released.
