Holy crap. In a recent interview he talked about the success of the Caustic Window album and how he's got loads more on DATs and unreleased material of similar quality from that era and how he started cataloging them for a possible box set and then got bored and stopped.

I bet he probably got either one of his kids or someone at Warp to set this up and spit out these tracks over time, if it's indeed him. He and Rephlex vehemently denied The Tuss being him, so it's not unlike him to play the denial game in the past.

Whoa. More and more stuff keeps getting added.

And way down there, nestled amongst the hard acid weirdies this gorgeous classic with all the hallmarks. Could be a SAW 85-92 outtake. https://soundcloud.com/user487363530/1-chink-101

not many comments on the EP - how is it?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 12:55 (nine years ago) link

Not in the singles chart for a kickoff.

Mark G, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 13:12 (nine years ago) link

Old or new, lost or found, him or no, I really wish these do get compiled and formally released, since parceling them out online in this manner makes it even harder than usual to keep track of his stuff.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:16 (nine years ago) link

yup. i don't really have time to go through all this stuff. they'll prob get taken down in a week as well.

diss strychnine (dog latin), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:22 (nine years ago) link

from the watmm thread, allegedly from an interview:

"I recently tried to craft an oldschool compilation.
I literally have hundreds of tracks from around Selected Ambient Works 85-92. But after three hours I already gave up. I tried it a few more times, but I just
cant get trough that pile of music. After three hours I dont even know why I'm doing this, it feels so pointless"

Was this for your own pleasure or for a commercial release?

"For an release. I'm thinking of releasing a boxset. But it feels a bit like you died, isn't it? That's what I told Warp. They said: you should put a gravestone
on it! But I have already done that.[on the cover of the Girl/Boy single you can find a graveston of his stillborn brother who would have been named Richard James].
I'm not sure what to do with it. Rephlex stopped, so that's not really and option. I still have some other ideas though, maybe I'll release some stuff anonimously.
That's always fun, to see what happens. I think I'll go that way."

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:56 (nine years ago) link

that being said i would still buy the shit out of a boxset

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:57 (nine years ago) link

new ep's dope.. also very well recorded/mastered, it boasts a large dynamic range that Syro lacks. it sounds massive on the stereo, though the sound palette is limited, and a few tracks are straight-up sketches.

At this stage I'm really not interested in a bunch of 20 year old tracks he's got knocking about. I'm not much interested in half-baked experiments or footwork tracks by his children or any of that. I just want a decent record.

Pretty incredible how high quality these tunes are.

octobeard, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 16:55 (nine years ago) link

It hurts me in my heart to say this, but I feel like I prefer the 12 best of these tracks to SYRO in its entirety.

(And I don't even dislike SYRO!)

Branwell with an N, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:40 (nine years ago) link

fuck he changed the username again. I've got 41 tracks downloaded from soundcloud between the two usernames he's used so far.

I'm facebook friends with Manny from Citinite/Optigram and when these soundcloud posts started showing up, he posted some cassette J-cards Richard made for him in 1990 with a lot of the same track names.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:54 (nine years ago) link

new one is user48736353001

just follow him and then you can look at your stream and see what he's posting under

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:56 (nine years ago) link

Seriously, though, these two dozen or whatever tracks - is there a way to conveniently download them? I assume eventually someone will grab them and share them.

I've ripped 36 tracks so far. Be happy to share them here if mods think that's ok.

It's pretty easy to use something like Anything To MP3 to d/l the audio.

groovypanda, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 19:19 (nine years ago) link

thx for link; i would LOVE a rip link

Sounds like a forks display name (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 19:27 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, seriously. Even if I was successfully able to rip and assemble these tracks piecemeal, I worry they'd get lost in my virtual pile of other loose tracks floating around my hard drive.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 19:30 (nine years ago) link

snare robot seems kinda dumb, or rather a lot of work for what you presumably get out of it. i mean, they say this:

24.04.2014: Tests by Kristof Lauwers. Snar2 not only outperforms our first Snar version, but also easily human players. Not only with respect to speed and polyphony, but even in dynamic range.

but there are so many sounds that you can't get out of that design, like hitting different parts of the head, buzzes, rimclicks, etc.

virtuoso thigh slapper (Jordan), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 19:31 (nine years ago) link

from what i understand the sticks themselves on the robot are solely for rim stuff, the actual snare hits are achieved with that array of beaters

45 tracks now. The latest one (5 minutes or so old) is already on over 100 plays

groovypanda, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:01 (nine years ago) link

And another.

Wonder when it will stop?

groovypanda, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:02 (nine years ago) link

I've got 47. Man. I get totally geeked out about artists who threw away songs that are better than most people's careers. The Who Sell Out bonus tracks. Joy Division's Still. etc
