celtics being down 10 to GSW is about 25 less than I figured they'd be down with a quarter and a half left

hey is there enough bandwidth for us to do some sort of top players of all time poll ... or is one of the things that makes ilh great the lack of those sorts of polls in contrast to the other ILX boards? What do you guys think?

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 19:52 (nine years ago) link

I think I def associate ILH with a very being in the moment ethos

o-TIM-DUNCAN-SAD-facebook.jpg (Clay), Monday, 26 January 2015 19:59 (nine years ago) link

what about top players of right now?

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 20:01 (nine years ago) link

how would that even go though, is someone gonna vote for kent bazemore in their top 10?

k3vin k., Monday, 26 January 2015 20:02 (nine years ago) link

It would go like all the other polls probably, devolving into fights that are either fun or petty or both.

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 20:05 (nine years ago) link

how would that even go though, is someone gonna vote for kent bazemore in their top 10?

Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 26 January 2015 20:06 (nine years ago) link

idk why ilx doesnt have ranked voted built in

lag∞n, Monday, 26 January 2015 20:06 (nine years ago) link

My ballot for greatest of all time would probably shape up like

1. Gilbert Arenas
2. Greg Oden
3. Ernie Johnson

o-TIM-DUNCAN-SAD-facebook.jpg (Clay), Monday, 26 January 2015 20:07 (nine years ago) link

My all-time would just be various California-era Warriors.

Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 26 January 2015 20:07 (nine years ago) link

my ballot fwiw

1 brow
2 kent bazemore
3 kent bazemore
4 kent bazemore
5 kent bazemore
6 kent bazemore
7 kent bazemore
8 kent bazemore
9 kent bazemore
10 kent bazemore

o-TIM-DUNCAN-SAD-facebook.jpg (Clay), Monday, 26 January 2015 20:24 (nine years ago) link

id participate in a poll like that. could be fun

Spottie, Monday, 26 January 2015 20:37 (nine years ago) link

if we did a poll it should be a list of who we think will be the top players in 5 years rather than top players now, that would be much more interesting

k3vin k., Monday, 26 January 2015 20:43 (nine years ago) link

i'd personally only want to do that one if we restricted it to players currently on nba rosters

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 20:45 (nine years ago) link

yeah that would be fine

k3vin k., Monday, 26 January 2015 20:46 (nine years ago) link

maybe do 3 years then

k3vin k., Monday, 26 January 2015 20:46 (nine years ago) link

I say we should each post our own list of who we think will be the top players in a few years. maybe make it more verifiable by saying who in the league today who hasn't been an all star yet, will be in the 2018 all-star game. and then we slag off on each others lists, like we usually do.

Aimless, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:11 (nine years ago) link

I say we should each post our own list

individual ballots at the end, like we always do

maybe make it more verifiable by saying who in the league today who hasn't been an all star yet

unnecessary restriction imo

will be in the 2018 all-star game.

really don't give a fuck about the asg

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:13 (nine years ago) link

but also I think it would be fun to speculate about which current all stars will still be good / around / etc.

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:19 (nine years ago) link

but just saying so-and-so will be "a top player" leads to nothing new we don't already do all the time anyway, which is argue over relative merits of players and disagree with one another. the asg metric at least allows the possibility of doing a victory dance.

Aimless, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:20 (nine years ago) link

there are all sorts of stats and awards that people use to argue about the relative merits of individual players, and few of them are fundamentally less indicative of ability that all-star game appearances.

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:21 (nine years ago) link

fine with me if you suggest some better way

Aimless, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:25 (nine years ago) link

okay you talked me out of wanting to do this

polyphonic, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:28 (nine years ago) link

i think maybe a ballot version of your favorite nba players for watching could be interesting

o-TIM-DUNCAN-SAD-facebook.jpg (Clay), Monday, 26 January 2015 21:30 (nine years ago) link

there'd be some pretty universal choices and some regional idiosyncrasies and some pretty personal choices that'd be given voice imo

o-TIM-DUNCAN-SAD-facebook.jpg (Clay), Monday, 26 January 2015 21:31 (nine years ago) link

i actually think "best" would be better if we do the 3 year thing. "favorite" would dilute the ballots too much. we're only gonna get like 10 people voting

k3vin k., Monday, 26 January 2015 21:32 (nine years ago) link

KD has an injured left toe? dude ain't got no luck

I say we do a poll of favorite draft busts 2000-present

we just form a f#!king wall (agent hibachi), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 01:21 (nine years ago) link

we could do a poll with like a lot of of different questions

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 01:22 (nine years ago) link

of one where everyone just makes up their own questions

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 01:22 (nine years ago) link

let's all interview each other and start a cool basketball magazine

o-TIM-DUNCAN-SAD-facebook.jpg (Clay), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 01:23 (nine years ago) link

poll should only include players who have worn hannibal lecter masks to protect broken noses etc

Maybe we should poll possible poll questions first then our magazine can be called hoop infinity: recursive polling
