Far too generous. A good sad wank song is a glorious thing.

emil.y, Thursday, 22 January 2015 13:15 (nine years ago) link

Perversely, my favourite discovery of the rollout so far has been the Katy Perry song with 782 million YouTube views which i seem to have managed to miss all year.

Yesterday was a good run.

Vermillion is a "trying on jeans somewhere" kind of song.

well, vermillion is a trying kind of song tbh

haha i don't know what this means -- or even if it's a diss? -- but i kind of like it.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:41 (nine years ago) link

basically the same as the "mid-tier fashion store music" diss of Rather Be, no?

rob, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:42 (nine years ago) link

Tbh, I don't take either of those descriptions as disses, even though they may have been intended as such.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:46 (nine years ago) link

that's true and I don't think whoever posted that even meant it as a diss, replace with "comment on"

rob, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:47 (nine years ago) link

I've had day-long meetings for the past three days and I'm realizing now that missing the vast majority of the tracks rollout didn't bother me at all, particularly since "Two Weeks" looks to be either #1 or #2. Kind of bummed no one went for Alcest, though.

Let me help you out Charlie XCX fan (DJP), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:44 (nine years ago) link

I'm bummed so many people think the Ear Murderers are good.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:46 (nine years ago) link

Well, people also think Taylor Swift and Tyler the Creator are good so it's not really a shock to me.

My brother gave me an album by The 1978ers for my birthday that I wish I'd heard last year because I would have been pushing it heavily:

This is the band you were telling me about! Wow, this is great.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 22 January 2015 21:03 (nine years ago) link

The whole album is FAAAAAANTASTIC

These two songs smoke, so I'm adding it to the purchase list.

three weeks pass...

Took a break, not related, but did I miss some reevaluation where people decided Drake wasn't hilariously awful?

huh. a good start

77. Jazmine Sullivan - Mascara

This is pretty good! I don't think that's ever been my reaction any other year to the first track so hopefully not a jinx, only criticism is some clunk lyrics wise and the potential for getting a little audio wallpapery, doesnt so much end as just drift off somewhere, still 7/10

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Monday, 18 January 2016 17:05 (eight years ago) link

76. Radiohead - Spectre

This sounds exactly like "Radiohead writes a song for a James Bond film" which is somehow super super gross to me, not in a "oh how could they" way but in the terrible combination of the worst of both of those two things. Remember when a James Bond theme wasn't an automatic bullet full of dull shot into whoever was making it? not a radiohead hater but this is phoned in no effort garbage. 3/10

75 THUNDERCAT FT. FLYING LOTUS AND KAMASI WASHINGTON "Them Changes"

I think I can't be impartial about this because i bear the deep scars of guitar store lifetime but the noodly watery envelope filter bass shit in this is so fucking grating and unlistenable that i cant give it a fair shake. shades of shrapnel records if they had put out anything not made by the whitest people available in new jersey. i get grabbed for moments, theres hooks but then saxophone or "blurgle bluggle wuuba wubba squee squa" bubbles up again and i just cant fucking take that shit. still better than the radiohead track. 4/10

74 FLOATING POINTS "Silhouettes (I, II, III)"

kind of reminds me of up bustle and out except for that part where something interesting happens eventually 5/10

i started listening to the nominations playlist a few weeks back, and seriously considered voting, but then after about a dozen or so tracks of tepid garbage, I decided I would rather listen to Bach and Roedelius and it isn't like my voting would make any difference in anyone's life, so I just gave up.

hopefully gaz will place high

Also, I did not formally release my Trap Queen IDM parody in time to be nominated.
