Active PlayStation Network Accountholders:

If you participated in the PSN “Welcome Back” program that followed the restoration of PSN service on May 15, 2011, you can get one of these three benefits:
• One free game for your PS3 or PSP (see the Claim Form for the games you can select), or
• Three free PS3 themes (see the Claim Form for the themes you can select), or
• One free subscription to PlayStation Plus online services for 3 months (this option is available only if you are not already a PlayStation Plus subscriber).

If you did not participate in the PSN “Welcome Back” program following the restoration of PSN service on May 15, 2011, you can submit a claim for two of the above benefit options.

Up to $10 million ($4 million for “Welcome Back” Participants, and $6 million for “Welcome Back” Non-Participants) in these benefits will be available (calculated at $9 per valid claim for one benefit or $18 for valid claims for two benefits) until the total available amounts have been reached. If your claim is received after the $10 million cap has been reached, you can get a free subscription to PlayStation Plus online services for one month instead (whether or not you are already a PlayStation Plus subscriber).

In addition, if you paid other companies for certain media services (specifically, Netflix or Hulu Plus) that you could not access through the PSN while the PSN was temporarily offline from April 20, 2011 through May 14, 2011 (the “PSN Offline Period”), you can get:

• Three free PS3 themes (see the Claim Form for the themes you may select), or
• A free subscription to PlayStation Plus online services for 3 months (this option is available only if you are not already a PlayStation Plus subscriber).

You must provide documentation in the form of credit card or other payment receipts or statements that you paid Netflix or Hulu Plus for media services during the PSN Offline Period that you could have accessed through the PSN but for the outage. You are not eligible for this benefit if you received a credit or reimbursement offsetting your payment, and you must also certify that you did not access those media services during the PSN Offline Period through some other means, such as by streaming media through internet-connected computers or ordering it on disc through the mail. Up to $1 million in benefits for such claims will be available (calculated at $9 per valid claim).

quick heads-up: if you buy the dying light season pass for $20 from gamestop.com at the moment you'll end up with a code for the full game. whoops.

Bloodborne is the only reason I'm buying it, so their little plan worked.

Ok I've got one of these now, for a crazy low price thanks to a friend moving to Japan and selling all his stuff off. So far it's a Destiny prettifier, but there's a ton of games I've acquired via PS+ over recent months which I've mostly not really heard of. Any recommendations amongst that stuff?

JimD, Saturday, 21 February 2015 18:24 (nine years ago) link

"that stuff" meaning Contrat, Don't Starve, Outlast, Mercenary Kings, Stick it to the man, Pixeljunk Shooter, Trine 2, Doki Doki Universe, Strider, Towerfall Ascension, Road Not Taken, Sportsfriends, Velocity 2X, Dust: An Elysian Tale, Pix the Cat, Escape Plan, Steamworld Dig, Secret Ponchos, Titan Attacks, The Swapper, Infamous First Light, Apotheon, Transistor.

JimD, Saturday, 21 February 2015 18:28 (nine years ago) link

there's a lot of good stuff in there, depends on what you're into. They're all worth trying out for sure, but i particularly enjoyed don't starve, strider, steamworld dig, the swapper and outlast. Infamous is worth a look as a showcase for what the ps4 can do graphically and if you've got a 3dtv trine 2 looks amazing in 3d.

Towerfall rules

polyphonic, Saturday, 21 February 2015 18:52 (nine years ago) link

^^ run don't walk to the nearest gamestop or whatever and get 4 controllers and play lots of Towerfall

stately, plump buck angel (silby), Saturday, 21 February 2015 23:53 (nine years ago) link

that's $180.00 for 3 controllers :(

Nhex, Sunday, 22 February 2015 01:25 (nine years ago) link

divided by the 180 hours of delight playing Towerfall with your friends will give you it's not too bad.

smh

Nhex, Sunday, 22 February 2015 01:52 (nine years ago) link

Thankfully, I don't have 3 friends. Going to pick up a second pad today though for Injustice and spit screen Garden Warfare (which seems like a fun time) so I'll be able to try Towerfall x 2, at least.

JimD, Sunday, 22 February 2015 12:55 (nine years ago) link

Outlast and Trine are also high on my todo list. But thanks for the recs, I'll give all those a go too.

JimD, Sunday, 22 February 2015 12:57 (nine years ago) link

Vita remote play is amazing btw, surprised how well it works. Destiny in bed is a killer app.

JimD, Sunday, 22 February 2015 12:58 (nine years ago) link

im playing the swapper right now, pretty cool platformer via cloning. limbo meets portal?

i'm in the ps4 club now. my display name is, perplexingly, brillidotam -- add me!

ooh, The Swapper looks great, ty.

lil urbane (Jordan), Monday, 2 March 2015 20:04 (nine years ago) link

i finished it in a night, its great though. claymation aesthetic, nice soundtrack, bizarre well-written story

downloaded it to play with my gf (she solves the puzzles, i push the buttons).

PS+ March

Starting things off on PS4 is Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee — New ‘n’ Tasty! This side-scrolling adventure reboots the PlayStation classic with new visuals, new sound, enhanced controls, and even more dark humor than before. Also coming to the PS4 lineup is Valiant Hearts: The Great War. This colorful puzzle game carries with it a heavy subject matter, as it follows four intersecting lives (and a loyal canine companion) during the first World War.

On PS3, gamers with PS Plus can download the critically-acclaimed Papo & Yo, alongside the wit-inducing Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments. And on PS Vita, watch out for OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood and CounterSpy.
These games will be available for Plus members when PlayStation Store updates later today.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 21:27 (nine years ago) link

that's a pretty lousy lineup imo

Maybe in 100 years someone will say damn Dawn was dope. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 21:43 (nine years ago) link

valiant hearts is pretty terrible btw; tried it on ios

Maybe in 100 years someone will say damn Dawn was dope. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 21:43 (nine years ago) link

imo these things are kind of about games that aren't "awesome" but things you maybe wanna try and will maybe stick in your head?

i am pretty excited abt this lineup, valiant hearts at least seems interesting, plus olliolli looks cool so i wouldn't mind messing w/ the second one. i will probably fuck w/ counterspy too.

(Download Baseball Scouting Report App) (Will M.), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 21:44 (nine years ago) link

i never really played Oddworld, so i'll check that out for sure.

lil urbane (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 21:50 (nine years ago) link

last month was crazy good so i knew there'd be a come down

Nhex, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 00:34 (nine years ago) link

i did want to try Valiant Hearts though, even if it sounds bad

Nhex, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 00:34 (nine years ago) link

I liked Valiant Hearts a lot, but I played it on PS4 so maybe there's a difference by platform, or maybe Mr Forks and I just have very different game tastes.

salsa shark, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 07:41 (nine years ago) link

I loved the original OlliOlli but I definitely don't feel like I want to jump into a sequel yet. Accelerated iteration in indie gaming doesn't do anyone any favours tbh (see also the fact that Five Nights at Freddy's 3 is out already).

JimD, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 15:59 (nine years ago) link

tbf i think that dev just realizes he has his 15 minutes of fame and is milking it as much as possible. FNAF came from his (unintentionally creepy) Christian shovelware!

Nhex, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 16:11 (nine years ago) link

oddworld and valiant hearts look interesting. i didn't see papo & yo on the ps3 store but maybe it got added later?

ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ (am0n), Wednesday, 4 March 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link

gave up on valiant hearts. oddworld is fun.

Infostealer.Steamfishi (am0n), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 20:01 (nine years ago) link

Olli Olli 2 is a must ... Tony Hawk meets Trials? Yes please.

Counterspy is more my style than Oddworld so far. Both are well worth the price of free.

Valiant Hearts is pretty strange, but oddly addictive? Very easy, but some fun puzzle wrinkles. The ugly art style had me wondering if Behemoth were involved but I guess not.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 20:36 (nine years ago) link

it was a little too easy and couldn't stand the art style

Infostealer.Steamfishi (am0n), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 21:02 (nine years ago) link

http://www.avclub.com/article/upcoming-ps4-update-finally-let-players-reconfigur-216512

Version 2.50 of the PS4 system software will finally let players configure controls however they want, for any game. In other words, if you want your circle button to mean “jump” and your L1 button to mean “slide,” you can make that happen, even if the game’s creator didn’t want you to.
