why do the thunder want brook lopez i don't understand it

because hes an elite player (WHEN HEALTHY [MOVES SLOWLY])

their frontcourt rotation is fine even if you don't even take into account that durant should get minutes a lot of minutes at the 4 against certain teams

fine not good enough the west is an arms race and okc prob more desperate than most re the potential imminent departure of kd

also kd maybe hates jackson, and jackson is playing very poorly, time 2 panic

i feel like thunder really just want a backup center who isn't kendrick perkins

i mean lopez is an elite rim protector and his per is like ~23 over the last few seasons, jackson has shown an inability to blend with kd/westb its a worthy risk imo

ibaka and adams are both centers, plus they have collison and maybe mitch mcgary comes along in the second half enough to give you 6-8 minutes in the playoffs. AND you have durant for small ball.

if i'm them i'm looking to find a 3 and D guy

wilson chandler makes much more sense for them than brook lopez

my deep abiding love for steven adams is well known on this message board but lopez wld be a pretty huge upgrade, and the thunder still wld have no problem going small when the situation demands

they need to find a player better than roberson and perry jones, not one better than nick collison

wilson chandler maybe makes more sense positionally but theres no comparison talent wise, theres no one else the thunder have any sort of shot as whos nearly as good at basketball as lopez

the thunder are plenty talented, talent is not their problem

theres no such thing as plenty talented lol

xxxp roberson is definitely a problem that's true, the fact that he's their starting 2 is ludicrous

if they trade for brook lopez and have to sit steven adams but still play andre roberson they are not going to be any better

cld also move collision or adams for more wing help if need be

brook lopez is better than steven adams ergo ur formula is wrong, bad

remember when everyone was like "you have to trade klay thompson for kevin love because he's just better"

well the argument that it would open up a hole in golden states line up where one does not exist is not the same as the thunder where you would just be keeping a lineup whole where one already exists, also both arguments fail to consider the possibility of further moves

not to mention the talent gap between those players is not comparable

and team continuity does not seem to be something the thunder actually possess

i reject this comparison

also maybe golded state shouldve traded for kevin love?

the big 3 heat are the only modern example of amassing talent being enough to haul yourself to a championship

counterpoint every championship team (except last years spurs) is an example of it

but also lopez wld mostly be a good fit for the thunder, cld put their defense over the top to the best in the league, on offense he demands a double team sucking players away from perimeter shooters, the only thing that wld worry me about the fit is that hes slow

perk doesnt play too much anymore tho

the celtics were much more fit than talent

the mavs team that won was one great player with perfect pieces around him

feel like the inside out game is something that cld really work for the thunder, not too complicated for brooks to understand

and fwiw i dont think generalizations about the make up of championship teams really matter other than to show theres a lot of diff ways to put together the perfect team

my point is that the thunder are already well positioned to make a run at the finals and if i was them i'd be placing my bets on the continuity of my already great players. i would be looking to make a few cosmetic changes to the roster but i would not be throwing a massive piece into the mix like brook lopez.

also i don't buy the point about brook's rim protection, they already have one of the best rim protectors in the league

if you play brook and serge together it works on offense bcuz serge can hang around the elbow but on defense you have to have serge playing away from the basket because brook can't move, what exactly is the point of that?

idk theyve looked pretty bad im not amped on their title chances as stands, they havent played together that much and still have time to get some flow but yeesh, some of that is obvs just bad coaching which isnt gonna change but

yeah i mean brooks is a massive problem

ibaka already plays away from the rim on D a lot hes just super fast and athletic enough to recover for the help blocks, thats basically the system theyre using now except youd replace the center who is more of a positional defender now with someone who can do that job and also also blocks shots

feels like brooks just sticking lopez in at center and getting the associated upgrade is more feasible than him getting better wings and figuring out how to change things up and go small more.

it's not that two rim protectors are bad it's just whether or not you're actually addressing problem areas on your roster

xp scotty brooks figuring anything out is not all that feasible

Yeah, three and D is a hole but but if they're going to stay in the tax should it be for that? Can't think of anybody available worth breaking the bank for.
