Thing is, compared to the shit that Gallagher used to dish out to other bands/artists in the '90s, what he said about Sheeran was actually quite tame.

Yeah, but:

Noel says something derogatory about Shed 7, ends their career.

NNoel says something about Ed, nothing happens.

Yup. Surely this must irritate him... like for all of his front I'm sure there must be a little voice lurking in there going "why are they not listening to me anymore!? whyyyyyy!?"

"Do you know that track by Alt-J, “Left Hand Free”? That is a great track. But Alt-J can fuck right off as far as I’m concerned. It’s a great tune, and I paid 79 pence for it, but I am in no way a fan of Alt-J."

I still can’t get enough of Seinfeld. It’s still the best thing that’s ever been filmed. It reminds me of the Nineties — good times. I was the only person in England who was watching it! That’s a fact."

Noel Gallagher has confessed to The Shortlist he was wrong to say "he could not live in a world" where Ed Sheeran could sell out three nights at Wembley Stadium.

His change of heart came after Sheeran fulfilled a promise to appear at Gallagher's Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

"He's a good lad and I won't have a word said against him," the musician said.

This comedy gold is why I don't understand why people wish for the Gallaghers to fade away completely.

Rolling Stone: What about Taylor Swift? She's a pop star, but many people praise her talent as a songwriter.
Noel:(Laughs) Who says that? Her parents?
Rolling Stone: Lots of people.
Noel: Who's "people"? Name these people. You're fucking lying. She seems like a nice girl, but no one has ever said those words, and you fucking know it.

Good to see Noel was a devoted fan of the late 90s BBC2 Seinfeld/Larry Sanders midnight feast

i know people who were there and saw him. If people dont turn up when the 1st act is on its their own fault.

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 9 December 2015 13:36 (eight years ago) link

Another added: “@1025Clyde1 @Noel Gallagher I wonder how many people spent the money assuming Noel would be on first? Con artists.”

Con artists bought tickets assuming Noel was on first?

Mark G, Wednesday, 9 December 2015 13:42 (eight years ago) link

Even if the first act is Tom Odell? (xp)

Otago Imago (Tom D.), Wednesday, 9 December 2015 13:43 (eight years ago) link

I know, really, obv..

Still thought, it's a funny con artist who sells tickets and puts the main headliner on first and tells nobody.

smh @ certain outlets (not talking about the scum) giving endless coverage to this dickhead's basic and witless pop culture opinions treating them as the inspired ramblings of our charmingly eccentric collective racist uncle

not going to defend liam but people were really trying to convince me that it was just him who gave the band a bad name and that noel was the cool witty open minded one

I'd imagine they are both insufferable dicks tbf, Liam just doesn't give two shits about trying to even fake a sheen of respectability for the presss.

Speaking to The Streets‘ Mike Skinner and Manchester Murkage Dave on their Spotify podcast, In The Third Person. Gallagher said: “Gene was into Arctic Monkeys big style and that, but now he’s fucking flipped. It’s all J Hus and Dave and all that, and every time we go out it’s all that stuff going on, which I know nothing about.”

When Skinner asked if Gallagher wanted the 17-year-old to form a band, he replied: “Yeah, but not necessarily a rock’n’roll band, d’you know what I mean? It’ll be interesting to hear his mix and how he brings all this grime stuff into his version of rock’n’roll, or guitar music, or whatever it is. You sort of throw everything in the pot and see what comes out.”

Discussing some of grime’s biggest names, Gallagher agreed with Skinner that Skepta is the biggest “rock star” in the country. He added that some musicians have the power to surpass genre. “I think they’re just stars aren’t they?” he said. “Whatever genre of music you’re in – it’s like I do fucking guitar music, they do whatever they do – there’s people that are bigger than their genre of music.”

when it comes to appealing to the mass collective, liam has it in the bag.
he plays the game far better.
i think his appearance at the manchester thing that ariana grande put on turned things around for him.
(as per indicated in the documentary that followed his post oasis/beady eye thing).
suspect the press re noel being on his boat that evening totally killed his options re the younger crowd, whereas young'uns genuinely love liam now.
noel is for the £50 quid fella/mojo readers only these days.
which is a weird turn of events given history.
once had hopes that noel would become interesting when he teamed up with David Holmes, but nah, just more of the same.
would still by the album he nearly made with AA/FSOL if it ever gets a release though.

Last night his show in Saratoga Springs, NY was cancelled after sets by the two openers (Metric and Garbage). About 20 minutes after his scheduled start time, audience members saw a handful of cops talking to venue staff, saw camerapeople abruptly packing up and leaving, and watched all the tour buses drive away. Then a notice appeared on the video screen asking everyone to evacuate. Apparently there was a bomb threat, but that wasn't verified until this morning. Some speculated that Noel was just being pissy because of the very low turnout (a couple acquaintances of mine were there and said it was the smallest crowd they'd ever seen at that venue).

“Hey, I’m going to put an end to materialism,” he says in the brief call to the Saratoga Springs Police Department’s non-emergency line that was logged at 9 p.m. Audio of the call and others made to the police that Saturday night were produced in response to a state Freedom of Information Law request.

The caller appears to target Noel Gallagher, the former Oasis guitarist and singer who was the evening’s headliner — though the caller claims he can’t remember his name.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 22 July 2023 12:46 (eight months ago) link

This is genuinely good writing:

That intimation that the caller is at the show, however, is belied by the fact that at the time of the call, the band Garbage — which is fronted by a female singer, Shirley Manson — was on stage. And there is none of the ambient background noise one would expect to hear in a call coming from at or near a concert.
