Spottie, Monday, 12 January 2015 05:43 (nine years ago) link

Illard owns every fourth q tbf

blatt is done.

So, the blazers are first to 30 wins. Take that, GSW!

micah, Monday, 12 January 2015 12:07 (nine years ago) link

well yeah, it's something to do with the cavs and a not insignificant portion of the NBA audience seems to lowkey want the cavs to fail spectacularly, so, anything anyone says on any level at the team is gonna get twisted somehow

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Monday, 12 January 2015 12:58 (nine years ago) link

that said, this particularquote is kinda NAGL for blatt. GMs can worry about player salaries.

xp *any level of that team

what did he even mean by that, i mean kevin love is a max player, is it cause he didnt get the five year megamax

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 14:34 (nine years ago) link

odd comment

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 14:34 (nine years ago) link

then like lebron is also not a max player

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 14:34 (nine years ago) link

A "max contract" has a very specific definition.

There are currently 7 players in the NBA on max contracts, Lebron and Love are not among them.

The question Blatt replied to referred specifically to Love and Kyrie (who is on a max contract).

In that vein his comment could be viewed as entirely innocent and I'm inclined to give him the botd even if its a lot more fun to take it the other way.

even if this is true at this point it doesn't even matter

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 January 2015 14:48 (nine years ago) link

What it comes down to is whether or not Love did take it personally and how he responds when questioned about it. He has shown a lack of tact in the past.

not true!

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:04 (nine years ago) link

i mean max contract has no specific definition, its a colloquialism, but within what youre talking about as far as the maximum contracts teams are allowed to offer in the nba there are two types one that lasts for four years and one that last for five, teams are only allowed one guy on the five year deal, you can say only the one that lasts for five years counts as a "max contract", but that would just be you saying that

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:09 (nine years ago) link

I haven't watched the cavs kings game yet but who are the "guys" lazing on transition defense?

"This is a team in disarray," the scout said. "They are so discombobulated out there with their new pieces. And it's not just that, there were guys not even crossing half court to get back on transition D."

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 12 January 2015 15:14 (nine years ago) link

i mean, the wizards are the wizards. the hawks are the hawks. the raptors are the raptors. i think the bulls and cavs are gonna be the best teams at the end of the season

*Wraps this post in aluminum foil and saves it for later*

I've heard this line of thinking so much the past couple weeks. I guess people just aren't watching? The hawks are so clearly one of the best teams in the league that even if the bulls/cavs start playing at their max potential they would struggle to win a series against them

Heez, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:24 (nine years ago) link

idk the hawks are playing the best they have like ever its not unreasonable to expect them to backslide some

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:27 (nine years ago) link

i don't think the cavs are gonna be one of the best teams at the end of the season

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 January 2015 15:28 (nine years ago) link

people are forgetting that the hawks were wrecking shit last year before horford got hurt, this isn't completely out of nowhere

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 January 2015 15:29 (nine years ago) link

the east is not that good so its possible imo but they def wldnt be my first pick

i resent u for making me check this but anyway its not true

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:31 (nine years ago) link

My biggest concern right now is injuries. They're on an unbelievable pace right now and could def see them cooling off a bit, but the way they play is highly sustainable.

Heez, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:32 (nine years ago) link

jeff teague seems like a pretty prime regression candidate

Wrecking shit might be pushing it but they were a solid 3rd in the east and were just getting to know the system

Heez, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:34 (nine years ago) link

here are atlantas results from last year open to public perusal http://espn.go.com/nba/team/schedule/_/name/atl/year/2014/atlanta-hawks

well they didn't go on a 22-2 run, but they were a very good team

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 January 2015 15:35 (nine years ago) link

horford was injured on boxing day 2013 at which point the hawks record was 16-13, again i resent you for making me check this, stop making things up

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:38 (nine years ago) link

Let's focus more on how great they are this yr

Heez, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:41 (nine years ago) link

I'm having a very chill morning at work: drinking coffee and watch hawks/wiz

Heez, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:43 (nine years ago) link

lol

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:43 (nine years ago) link

the hawks were onto something last year is all i'm saying

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 January 2015 15:45 (nine years ago) link

even if the hawks regress to some version of the mean, the only way i see them not being top 3 at this rate is injury

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Monday, 12 January 2015 15:45 (nine years ago) link

idk imo the top five in the east is pretty fluid

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:46 (nine years ago) link

i'd be much more sympathetic to the idea that the hawks are gonna fall back if they hadn't, like, beat houston, dallas, portland and the clippers on the road -- it doesn't seem like a fluke!

yeah obv my post was a little tongue in cheek, and also i called the hawks being very good this year. but they're playing a little over their heads right now i think. to me they're definitely in the top 3 of what i see as the eventual 3 best teams in the east, along with the cavs and bulls

k3vin k., Monday, 12 January 2015 15:49 (nine years ago) link

i think if anyone is gonna fall out of the top 3 or 4 it's toronto

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 January 2015 15:49 (nine years ago) link

torontos D has gone to hell for some reason idk why but if they can start defending again they shd be right in there their offense is great

yo can someone tell me who's slacking on Cleveland's defense enough that it gets singled out in a slag Blatt espn article but w/o naming names? name names plz I want to know who to watch and laugh at on league pass later tonight.

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:30 (nine years ago) link

Probably Love right?

, Monday, 12 January 2015 17:32 (nine years ago) link

literally everyone

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 17:32 (nine years ago) link

like love and kyrie are known slackers but bron has been comically blatantly slacking, obvs not playing tonight tho

lag∞n, Monday, 12 January 2015 17:33 (nine years ago) link

they were on the sleep train I guess

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:34 (nine years ago) link
