it would be funny if i'd actually misused looming

deej loaf (D-40), Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:50 (nine years ago) link

dont try to make this a running joke bc published author curse of ray tabano doesn't know what looming means

deej loaf (D-40), Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:51 (nine years ago) link

Good to see you guys appreciating Safe Sex Pay Checks - breihan weirdly wanted it cut from the album lol

longneck, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:58 (nine years ago) link

makonnen and father are like the faulty disposed prototypical rae sremmurd's ... i like to imagine mike will building a frankenstein rap star and overdoing the babyfaced youthfulness on makonnen & having to go back to the drawing board ... then drake brings makonnen back to life by pulling the switch & he jumps up from under the sheet ... its alive! sort of, anyway

Swae Lee: He’s the one that gave us the big chance. We had jobs at Olive Garden in Tupelo, and he said, “Y'all, leave Tupelo…”

Slim Jimmy: Fuck that shit, come to Atlanta.

Swae Lee: I’ll always love Olive Garden.

Slim Jimmy: I can’t wait to go in there and buy all I want.

Swae Lee: Those little breadsticks? Sheesh.

what a glorious day that will be, when mike will hands them $100 each for their never ending pasta passes

"We used to work at Olive Garden... now we're eatin' at Olive Garden!" is like the saddest Rich Kidz boast

Evan R, Friday, 9 January 2015 01:01 (nine years ago) link

their awestruck reaction to nicki illustrates why her "throw sum mo" hook works so well, she must be a decade older than them at least so it's v much the boredom of a more experienced/jaded woman in the face of puppyish excitement, and maybe that's a better look than trying to out-wild them?

lex pretend, Friday, 9 January 2015 10:03 (nine years ago) link

Yes.

Swae Lee: It’s like, “You’re my ex, but you’re playing.” It’s like the video for this is going to be crazy. It’s going to be not normal take you out to eat. We’re going to be out in space or something crazy.

Slim Jimmy: I’m going to be with my girl in space, then we’re going to go and play baseball.

Swae Lee: Let’s go to Applebee's. It’s going to be something crazy. Like, what’s crazy? I love Applebee's. Maybe jet skis. Maybe go to space. We have to make a video for this one.

They should make a whole mixtape about casual dining establishments.

TOKYO DRIFT THRU THE HILLS

Line of the year imo

, Saturday, 10 January 2015 23:57 (nine years ago) link

Having heard the singles, but not the album, I'm getting the sense that Slim Jimmy is more or less the Phife to Swae Lee's Q-Tip. Is that accurate?

JRN, Sunday, 11 January 2015 01:54 (nine years ago) link

It's closer to a 50/50 split than in Tribe, but I think it's a fair analogy if you take the most generous read of it, which is to say the Slim Jimmy is an essential player. He lands a ton of great moments; Swae Lee probably lands just a handful more

Evan R, Sunday, 11 January 2015 02:49 (nine years ago) link

Lately I've started thinking of this more as kind of like a Beastie Boys album, in that it makes me wish I still skateboarded. And I think a lot of that punk energy comes from Slim Jimmy

Evan R, Sunday, 11 January 2015 02:51 (nine years ago) link

swae lee is gonna have a solo career very soon

"Unlock the Swag" is so amazing

The Reverend, Sunday, 11 January 2015 09:52 (nine years ago) link

The mix of "No Flex Zone" on the album sounds completely puny compared to the one I've been bumping for months? :(

The Reverend, Sunday, 11 January 2015 10:02 (nine years ago) link

"Throw Sum Mo" does have a bit of a Weird Science vibe to it, it's true

The Reverend, Sunday, 11 January 2015 10:21 (nine years ago) link

it's the same mix of "no flex zone" as far as i can tell?

i wish there was an official version with all RS verses and nicki's verse, nice that her remix was made official but no one needs to hear pusha t on it

lex pretend, Sunday, 11 January 2015 12:15 (nine years ago) link

the mp3 I've had starts completely differently, and the levels and even some of the synth textures are quite noticeably different

The Reverend, Sunday, 11 January 2015 12:50 (nine years ago) link

mmm hmm

well, the official nicki/pusha remix has new RS verses: https://soundcloud.com/raesremmurd/rae-sremmurd-no-flex-zone-remix-featuring-nicki-minaj-pusha-t-prod-by-mike-will-made-it

and there's definitely a version that just tacks the nicki verse onto the original with RS's verses intact, because i've heard it on the radio a lot.
