it sounds like a drukqs outtake.. well-detailed and effortless-sounding, of a similar palette and feeling/flow

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 03:24 (nine years ago) link

Guessing this will be an EP of 5 songs similar to Syro/Drukqs and a mess of doodles with perhaps a couple acoustic bits.

octobeard, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 06:36 (nine years ago) link

it would be so interesting to see a poll of what everyone thinks the ratio of "farty" to "normal" will be, maybe with more discussion of "types" of "aphex" "songs"!!!!!

Holy crap. In a recent interview he talked about the success of the Caustic Window album and how he's got loads more on DATs and unreleased material of similar quality from that era and how he started cataloging them for a possible box set and then got bored and stopped.

I bet he probably got either one of his kids or someone at Warp to set this up and spit out these tracks over time, if it's indeed him. He and Rephlex vehemently denied The Tuss being him, so it's not unlike him to play the denial game in the past.

Old or new, lost or found, him or no, I really wish these do get compiled and formally released, since parceling them out online in this manner makes it even harder than usual to keep track of his stuff.

from the watmm thread, allegedly from an interview:

"I recently tried to craft an oldschool compilation.
I literally have hundreds of tracks from around Selected Ambient Works 85-92. But after three hours I already gave up. I tried it a few more times, but I just
cant get trough that pile of music. After three hours I dont even know why I'm doing this, it feels so pointless"

Was this for your own pleasure or for a commercial release?

"For an release. I'm thinking of releasing a boxset. But it feels a bit like you died, isn't it? That's what I told Warp. They said: you should put a gravestone
on it! But I have already done that.[on the cover of the Girl/Boy single you can find a graveston of his stillborn brother who would have been named Richard James].
I'm not sure what to do with it. Rephlex stopped, so that's not really and option. I still have some other ideas though, maybe I'll release some stuff anonimously.
That's always fun, to see what happens. I think I'll go that way."

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:56 (nine years ago) link

that being said i would still buy the shit out of a boxset

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:57 (nine years ago) link

new ep's dope.. also very well recorded/mastered, it boasts a large dynamic range that Syro lacks. it sounds massive on the stereo, though the sound palette is limited, and a few tracks are straight-up sketches.

At this stage I'm really not interested in a bunch of 20 year old tracks he's got knocking about. I'm not much interested in half-baked experiments or footwork tracks by his children or any of that. I just want a decent record.
