and i jsut noticed that D4 is free to xbox gold subscribers, and my roommate just got an xbox one, and is out of town until thursday, and is a gold member, and ohhhhyeeeeeaaaahhh i'll be playing that too

yeah, i think the greatness of this game did get buried in the so bad its good vibe like i said upthread. there are some really shocking and startlingly emotional moments, and they are so interesting within this alien landscape of oddness rather than badness - def a game where i suspect many reviewers just didnt give it time to turn into what it really is and just got hung up on the gameplay, to which i say hey man, people please choose to play og resident evil games, this is a hell of a lot better than that.

theres at least one murder scene (no spoilers) that rivals anything "dark" ive ever seen in videogaming, and when it drops into a game with the sinners sandwich and one sided conversations between the protagonist and himself its like a slap in the face.

last day free on ps+ i think, so get to it people

if it's the one i am thinking of... yeah. and also... fuck. now that i am thinking about it again i am like whoaaaaaaaaaa. there are some serious "play this a second time and notice things" moments popping out at me.

Wacha Underground (Will M.), Monday, 5 January 2015 18:43 (nine years ago) link

also mad props for making the game's most tragic character, like, not an utter embarrassing farce and really kinda pitiable in a real way (altho it gets DANGEROUSLY close to crossing that line)

Wacha Underground (Will M.), Monday, 5 January 2015 18:44 (nine years ago) link

damn man and the blindfold scenes. jjjusten thank you so much for beating the drum for this game as long as you did, it really pushed me to finally play it and i am so glad i did.

Wacha Underground (Will M.), Monday, 5 January 2015 18:47 (nine years ago) link

All right, maybe I'll get back onboard and push through the awful, awful driving when I'm done being addicted to GTA Online.

thing i wish someone had told me: once you cna start doing sidequests, complete quests 004 and 005 as soon as possible. the reward for 005 is fast travel.

i haven't played this game before but on a recommendation i started watching this old Let's Play by some guy from SA and i'm completely enthralled
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL845B60D60A411471

he does a good job of letting the game's bizarreness speak for itself while still adding value with commentary (i lost it when he went around the grocery store and started zooming in and reading off all the mangled product names). i'm pretty glad that i can experience the game this way since it doesn't look like the actual gameplay is rewarding, just the writing & 'acting'

ciderpress, Monday, 14 March 2016 16:58 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, I lost my saved game when my old PS3 crashed and the thought of replaying the early portions of the game kinda keep me from picking it up again.

Swery is crowdfunding a new game, trailer seems suitably unhinged.

oh boy, wait till you hear about this one

Kate (rushomancy), Monday, 27 July 2020 08:59 (three years ago) link

ya meant this one. hopefully they patch it

||||||||, Monday, 27 July 2020 09:03 (three years ago) link

i haven't played yet but it sounds like it's good just even lower effort/less polish than the first

ciderpress, Monday, 27 July 2020 13:02 (three years ago) link

on the tech side i mean, there's definitely some effort in the world design and such

ciderpress, Monday, 27 July 2020 13:04 (three years ago) link

If for nothing else, the first gets props for having literally the worst driving controls in the history of video games. Like so bad that I have to assume they're willfully so.

― ||||||||

that's what some of us hoped as well, and someone brought it to swery's attention, and he said "oh! sorry, i'll get right on that", and released a patch that fixed damn near nothing, and then that was brought to swery's attention as well, and swery's response was to talk about his "creative freedom" and make a couple more tweets that were more blunt that he then deleted

don't get your hopes up.

Kate (rushomancy), Monday, 27 July 2020 13:53 (three years ago) link

if it gets a pc release after the 6 months of switch exclusivity are up then maybe it'll run better there, though the first game actually runs worse on pc than on 360 lol

ciderpress, Monday, 27 July 2020 15:39 (three years ago) link

either way i will be playing this on switch handheld mode for the proper experience

I literally forgot this game came out until I watched sleepy hollow today and saw that weird tree and was like "oh damn deadly premonition, did that come out?" and then I bought it and now I'm playing it that's the whole story

TRANCED INTO RADIOACTIVE PUREE (Will M.), Monday, 2 November 2020 08:45 (three years ago) link

i'm two scenes in and he's talked at least a couple of lines about... 8 different movies or so? i wish i was keeping a list

TRANCED INTO RADIOACTIVE PUREE (Will M.), Monday, 2 November 2020 19:52 (three years ago) link

wait are you playing the first one for the first time?

ciderpress, Monday, 2 November 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link

there is a lot of movie chat

ciderpress, Monday, 2 November 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link

the second one!

TRANCED INTO RADIOACTIVE PUREE (Will M.), Monday, 2 November 2020 20:23 (three years ago) link

oh nvm you're playing 2 i see

ciderpress, Monday, 2 November 2020 20:23 (three years ago) link

there is still a lot of movie chat

ciderpress, Monday, 2 November 2020 20:23 (three years ago) link

yeah i totally didn't clarify that. maybe i should've played the first one thru again first though, because i cannot remember the ending at all? and iirc it got very convoluted

these are both on sale for switch now, which seems rare?

na (NA), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 18:56 (two years ago) link

by which i mean they are both discounted. i don't remember a price drop on DP2 since i put on my wishlist a year or two ago.

na (NA), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 18:58 (two years ago) link

should i play either of them? should i start with 1 or jump to 2?

na (NA), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 19:07 (two years ago) link

Definitely don't jump to 2.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 19:09 (two years ago) link

everyone should play Deadly Premonition 1, but I can't speak to how well it plays on the switch since at least the 360 and PC versions all had their own problems.

Judi Dench's Human Hand (methanietanner), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 20:06 (two years ago) link

play the 360 version. it's back compatible with the bone and series consoles too

if xbox is not an option, the various ports are all slightly worse than the 360 original: the director's cut extra content is pointless, game looks worse, performance is worse, crashes are more frequent. still worth checking out imo, but the switch one is the worst port of all i think

definitely don't bother with 2 unless you've played 1. i loved 1 but couldn't stomach 2, ymmv

chihuahuau, Tuesday, 15 June 2021 20:25 (two years ago) link

yeah 2 was not well received even by huge fans of 1 so i stayed away. sounded like it was just worse all around - writing not as charming or engaging, performance downgraded from 'janky low budget game' to 'so broken it's barely playable'

This is the perfect steam deck to play beside my wife while she watches pretty little liars. I tried it when it came out and was one to jump out as soon as I had to jump in a car and navigate the games handling. Now, I’m having a ball. Very keen to try 2 as well, apparently the pc version fixes most/all of the performance woes of the switch

hrep (H.P), Friday, 4 August 2023 23:36 (eight months ago) link

Incredibly on brand for this game: The steam achievement for completing episode 1 spoils who the killer is in its description. Couldn’t help but laugh when I saw it come up at the bottom of my screen. Oh well, let’s see how it all unfolds!
