the black list is full of fucking insanity this year:

WONKA
Jason Micallef
A dark, reimagining of the Willy Wonka story beginning in World
War II and culminating with his takeover of the chocolate factory.

THE MUNCHKIN
Will Widger
A little person private eye investigates the disappearance of
a young actress in 1930s Hollywood, leading him to uncover
conspiracies involving THE WIZARD OF OZ and Metro Goldwyn
Mayer brass.

COFFEE & KAREEM
Shane McCarthy
An overweight, foul-mouthed nine year old reluctantly teams
with the straight edge cop sleeping with his mom to take down
Detroit’s most ruthless drug lord.

PROFESSOR PASGHETTI
Jeff Feuerstein
A famous children’s author, with an affinity for drugs and
hookers, finds himself on a journey of self-discovery with a dead
stripper and her eight year old son.

oh wait these are real scripts??

gbx, Saturday, 3 January 2015 17:24 (nine years ago) link

they're all real screenplays that have been shopped around but never bought/green lit iirc

gr8080, Saturday, 3 January 2015 17:41 (nine years ago) link

amazing

gbx, Saturday, 3 January 2015 18:19 (nine years ago) link

not just real, but generally well liked by those who have read them.

many have been made into movies, historically speaking.

polyphonic, Saturday, 3 January 2015 18:25 (nine years ago) link

sam raimi's wife just recently made a short animated film using a blacklist script

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 19:00 (nine years ago) link

The Black List has included a substantial number of screenplays that were later put into production, including successful and award-winning examples such as American Hustle, Lars and the Real Girl, Juno, The King's Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, Argo, and 50/50.

the 2014 this year comp is up; listening to all those hollywood game night recaps in quick succession is kinda mind-breaking

also really happy to hear "quit being a beeitch" made it

gr80 you are not kidding

goole, Sunday, 11 January 2015 00:26 (nine years ago) link

i kinda wanna leave a v-mail abt it

gr8080, Sunday, 11 January 2015 00:33 (nine years ago) link

I haven't heard it yet -- what's messed up about it

gbx, Sunday, 11 January 2015 01:41 (nine years ago) link

gr80 was it their response that bothered you? it did me too, a little, but at least jon did say, god forbid it wasn't what amy assumed it was. those guys are always "sex positive" to a fault and maybe too much so in this case? it was hard to tell exactly what happened - the woman telling it seems to have left some crucial detail out

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 January 2015 13:05 (nine years ago) link

yeah i mean who knows, i just think their anti-amy routine veered a little too close to "lol @ rape" this time and they'd have been better off skipping that letter entirely

it's a shame because it's a fantastic episode otherwise

It ain't about you, everyone

Many xposts - I just found out that Whiplash started out as a black list script, not sure if it's the first best picture nom to have done so?

Blandford Forum, Monday, 26 January 2015 11:52 (nine years ago) link

King's Speech, Argo and Slumdog were blacklist scripts

ancient texts, things that can't be pre-dated (President Keyes), Monday, 26 January 2015 11:59 (nine years ago) link

Amazing! I'd just assumed they were all insanely terrible ideas

Blandford Forum, Monday, 26 January 2015 12:04 (nine years ago) link

I believe they're just hot unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood. There were a few legendary scripts that circulated for maybe ten years (that Will Smith superhero movie, and that Jodi Foster film where Mel Gibson plays with a puppet) because no one knew how to make them.

This morning at 2.30am my (landline) phone rang. My husband was on shift so I panicked a bit and ran to answer it, and it was one of those robo-voiced messages from when someone texts your landline. As near as I can remember the message was:

Seth can't make international calls but he wanted me to say thank you for your message.
This is Jonathan. Thanks for listening. UYD4L.

looooooooolz forever.

listening thru old ones: 283 has the insane story of jonathan seeing a dude in full motorcycle gear disinfecting and photographing an atm at a grocery store, then kind of calling him on it and getting nowhere (except more mad)

goole, Monday, 9 February 2015 03:35 (nine years ago) link

really tempted to take a crack at some fan-art depicting seth with an "AN ACT COMMON TO THE GAME" Chest tattoo rn

gr8080, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 23:21 (nine years ago) link

i've kind of been losing my UYD faith. it was a number of things. the long november hiatus. two episodes in a row with rape jokes. jonathan kind of phoning it in more than ever. and then the sci-ti thing in the last episode just slayed me.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 23:23 (nine years ago) link

what was the second rape joke one? i've been bored by the last few episodes

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 00:03 (nine years ago) link

during the live show they did some kind of back and forth about how seth "blacked out back there" and they ran with that, as if the concept that seth would be blacked out drunk and raped by people was funny. i wasn't feeling that.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 00:48 (nine years ago) link

and you know, obviously it was jonathan egging that on, taking it there. seth gives him 5 million free passes because they're friends, which i can understand, but, i dunno, i dunno if it's that plus other stuff too? i agree with the bored feeling - it took me a lot longer to finish the last few episodes than normal. i think i haven't even finished the latest one. just sorta forgot about it.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 01:09 (nine years ago) link

oh ok i remember that. i don't like the live shows, except i liked that one that was the first this year, with seth's mc hammer review, i think that was live? jonathan hasn't told any good stories in a while. i've been just spacing out listening to them. there is nothing good to listen to and i drive so much!

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 02:22 (nine years ago) link

well maybe on the one before that i liked it, i have them all out of order. for some reason i like any time they talk about cars and safety.

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 02:23 (nine years ago) link

this show feels like something from the very distant past

is there something up with the feeds? or something changed how feedburner works? it's like there's no file to play

ah well, these guys
