where are those colored clamp lamps from? they're really cool

just1n3, Friday, 2 January 2015 20:50 (nine years ago) link

i like those shelves. i just don't want the hardware here because it's a small space.

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Friday, 2 January 2015 23:21 (nine years ago) link

kinda going back and forth though. i don't always like the look of floating either.

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Friday, 2 January 2015 23:25 (nine years ago) link

Chinavision - that's a Marantz on the book shelf, right? Is that a Rega on the small shelf?

I agree, very nice setup. What do you do for vinyl storage?

los blue jeans, Friday, 2 January 2015 23:28 (nine years ago) link

know what, i'm gonna think about those track shelves again. the white looks cool. it looks like a place where someone lives, not some bullshit on pinterest.

first picture: thorens td-160 and pioneer sa-8500
second picture: marantz 6200 turntable and model 2238 receiver

the lamps are ikea

chinavision!, Saturday, 3 January 2015 00:18 (nine years ago) link

and most records are on ikea shelves, with a lot of twelve inches around the corner in my studio, which is very messy. if I could I'd replace the shelves with something white.
plus a gratuitous shot of our mantle.

the hardware of those shelves seems less bulky/intrusive bc its the same color as the walls

just1n3, Saturday, 3 January 2015 00:34 (nine years ago) link

yeah. i'm not gonna do white for the walls but i might do light gray which would be ok. can't wait to go to home depot tomorrow lol.

Something like the Ikea Lack shelves that attach to the wall with no visible hardware supporting it:

Lots of other colours available

not sure if I envy or am freaked out by uncluttered pictures

I am a master of clutter

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:19 (nine years ago) link

ogmor i'm not *opposed* to that but that's like 4-5" of shelf and the stove is behind there so it would get greasy

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:21 (nine years ago) link

kinda like that corner shelf and saw it before but it's beyond my carpentry capabilities

i am the supreme master of clutter. i'm not a hoarder, i love throwing things away, but i create piles because i lack proper storage for everything. i work a lot and get tired from working and that makes me clean less. also get overwhelmed, which clutter makes worse. this week i worked on cleaning a lot & trying to use my cleaning momentum to get this project done.

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:24 (nine years ago) link

harbl cant we make shelves across that whole wall instead of just the corner

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:25 (nine years ago) link

i don't have enough stuff to fill those that and it's a very narrow room

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:26 (nine years ago) link

some ppl are reading this book re clutter btw https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22318578-the-life-changing-magic-of-tidying-up

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:26 (nine years ago) link

i think it wld be good tho

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:26 (nine years ago) link

i think it would be too i just don't want to make the space any narrower

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:27 (nine years ago) link

fair, considering you have actually seen the space in question

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:28 (nine years ago) link

I own a few books on decluttering, they're on my coffee table under some beer bottles

valleys of your mind (mh), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:28 (nine years ago) link

clutter book discussed here btw discussed here Getting Things Done (GTD) - Cult or Awesome?

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:28 (nine years ago) link

wow all 9 of the library's copies of that are checked out

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:28 (nine years ago) link

ha damn

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:29 (nine years ago) link

i can't read the GTD thread. i am sometimes inspired by stupid blog posts about getting things done but trying to implement them makes my brain feel like a knot.

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:30 (nine years ago) link

i am def not a GTD person just in it for the decluttering, which tbf i am already pretty into, its just like an interest of mine

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:33 (nine years ago) link

i love when things are not cluttered too. you wouldn't know it looking at my office or house though.

kola superdeep borehole (harbl), Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:33 (nine years ago) link

i only located the declutter talk in GTD via an excelsior post

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:34 (nine years ago) link

the main take away from that book seems throw everything you dont absolutely adore or use constantly away in one swoop then make sure everything thats left has an assigned place to be put away, i only read the first chapter tho, i think theres advice abt how to specifically organize stuff too

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:36 (nine years ago) link

the lady is quite a charming loon too telling stories about how she loved to read articles about how to clean things when she was a kid

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:37 (nine years ago) link

i bought it because the title claims tidying up is magical and i believe that

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:39 (nine years ago) link

we just ripped out track shelving but it looked awful in a georgian living room. want to replace it with tall cupboards/cabinets we can cover in wallpaper but not sure you can get ones tall and narrow enough. or maybe you can and they're called wardrobes idk

this kind of thing: http://flodeau.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Cole-Son-Circus-wallpaper-FLODEAU.COM-1.jpeg

valleys of your mind (mh), Saturday, 3 January 2015 20:47 (nine years ago) link

i apologize in advance for this horrifically ugly pic

http://designlike.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/countryliving.jpg

WHAT is the thing on the left hand/upper side of the pic that appears to be holding dried flowers in its base

jello my future biafriend (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 7 January 2015 20:45 (nine years ago) link

A water dispenser/vat with a spiggot at the bottom and a basin to catch drips? Is my best guess.

Every time I look at the sheer number of flowered things I start laughing though so I'm a lil distracted.

kind of tempted to start an "ugliest interior design pics" thread

jello my future biafriend (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 7 January 2015 21:08 (nine years ago) link

that is beautifully hideous

before i even scrolled down to your post beneath the image, my first thought was 'wtf is that awesome thing on the wall'

just1n3, Wednesday, 7 January 2015 22:29 (nine years ago) link

I know it's potpourri in that stupid thing under it, but I decided you put dried mushrooms in there and it's a mushroom rehydrating device

valleys of your mind (mh), Wednesday, 7 January 2015 22:33 (nine years ago) link

finally, a real answer

jello my future biafriend (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 7 January 2015 22:39 (nine years ago) link

To be more specific, different grays go with different other colors. It's more about the shading than anything. There are a million grays.

I've transcended from clutter to actually dirty around here, took day off work for mental health reasons and am going to try to get some cleaning done!

be less disgusting otm
my breaking point came when i saw something hiding behind the grapefruit and made the mistake of reaching out to touch it and it was an extremely decrepit pear ;_;
pretty gross

i have the desire to paint, de-clutter and clean when I'm totally slammed with work and don't have time to do these things -- also, the desire is an escape mechanism -- putting off one thing in favor of something else that isn't as immediately necessary but easier. bedroom really needs paint, as it hasn't been painted in almost 20 yrs (as in right before I moved in). But I'm going to wait until summer or at least warmish spring, so I can open the windows to air out the paint smell.

sarahell, Friday, 24 February 2017 20:45 (seven years ago) link

When I'm pushed to action with a really busy week at work I feel the obligation to be _on_ when I'm home, too

which is horrible because slow times at work would be the perfect time to get a lot of home stuff done but I slow down

mh 😏, Friday, 24 February 2017 22:42 (seven years ago) link

first time i've seen this thread. chinavision!'s pad's feng shui is off the charts
