We can talk more about them once I have them all, because I just kinda sorta impulsively did that earlier this week

They are at the store and I am not, along with a bunch of skreddy stuff including the Swirl which I haven't heard yet.

I wonder if anybody can help me track down a pedal, a couple of weeks back an ad popped up on my FB page with a cool looking pedal that had a whole cassette tape mechanism built into it, I only caught a glimpse as I was clicking through and it's never returned to my feed.

Tried googling but to no avails, i HAVE TO KNOW what this damn pedal sounds like.

Nekomizu don't work (MaresNest), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 11:18 (nine years ago) link

oh, that is one handsome piece of equipment.

how's life, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 16:09 (nine years ago) link

"In US dollars it will be $799. It is affordable - but you must bear in mind there are many moving, expensive parts inside. so of course it will be a bit more money than a normal analogue overdrive pedal. And everything will be hand made in Denmark."

damn.

how's life, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 16:10 (nine years ago) link

you could basically get a RE-201 or similar for that amount of cash.

écorché (S-), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 16:51 (nine years ago) link

Man, not anymore you can't. Prices on the space echo are nuts right now.

yikes!

how's life, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:05 (nine years ago) link

That one is fully restored, I imagine you might be able to pick up an as is one for $7-800, but odds are you're throwing at least $2-300 to a tech to get it running clean again

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:08 (nine years ago) link

T-Rex stuff is built like the proverbial brick shithouse. I haven't tried the Replicator, but every other pedal of theirs I have played I have liked.

Three Word Username, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:34 (nine years ago) link

yeah their stuff is super high grade builds, no question. one of the few modern companies id trust to build a decent tape machine, honestly

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 17:47 (nine years ago) link

I posted that after typing 're-201 space echo buy' into google and this was the second thing that came up

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roland-RE-201-Space-Echo-Vintage-Tape-Echo-machine-professional-overhauled-/141553315759

Don't want to get into an argument over it, and then the point can be made that the RE series certainly aren't pedals anyway...

Regardless, it's an awful lot to pay for a limited use delay pedal!

écorché (S-), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 19:45 (nine years ago) link

don't look at the prices of binson echorecs

don't ask me why i posted this (electricsound), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:30 (nine years ago) link

Holy simoleons. For prices like that, they better be transparent.

how's life, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:33 (nine years ago) link

my solution to this problem in general winds up being skreddy or catalinbread related

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 21:28 (nine years ago) link

I have an RE-201 that I got for essentially free (well, as payment for debts incurred) years and years ago and it's awesome, more like a living beast than a machine, it is v strange. I wouldn't call it a limited use delay pedal at all. Just had my tech buddy service it cuz the output was acting up, now I need to replace the tape :(

there is a decent digital pedal knockoff though, schwantz has one

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 23:15 (nine years ago) link

yeah i dunno, i love the 201 but the pedal leaves me cold, perhaps it just can't get fucked up enough

don't ask me why i posted this (electricsound), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 23:36 (nine years ago) link

it's true the pedal doesn't act quite the same way although I can't quite put my finger on how. I mean if you crank the delay level up all the way it does the feedback thing but it is different somehow.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 28 January 2015 00:04 (nine years ago) link

XP to rogermexico, thanks!

That's a cool looking pedal however it's not what I saw, -from what I can remember - this one was a lighter colour, more squared off and had a cassette tape housing mechanism built flush in the centre with a cassette in it, it was the coolest looking thing.

Nekomizu don't work (MaresNest), Wednesday, 28 January 2015 09:37 (nine years ago) link

This pedal looks pretty interesting, but I ADORE the demo:

Holy crap. Want.

(and that's seriously the best pedal demo video I've ever seen)

I want the pedal too! Only $200.

Man, the Caroline Kilobyte pairs so well with a theremin. Thanks jjj for suggesting it and shipping it down to me. I needed it.

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 February 2015 05:36 (nine years ago) link

what is that?

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 13:10 (nine years ago) link

the logo seems to read "skatefuzz". Juan Alderete posted it on facebook last night. Googling skatefuzz got me some other pedals called a skatefuzz, but none with a skateboard wheel where the switch is supposed to go.

This is my most recent purchase and utter obsession:

The combo of awful dad-practice backing track and fuzz pedal is kind of amazing

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 03:31 (nine years ago) link

i knew before I clicked on that link that this was a prymaxe demo.

iyo iyo un day (how's life), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 10:10 (nine years ago) link

to the trained eye, "prymaxevintage.com" in the corner of the preview image is a dead giveaway

resulting post (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 12:48 (nine years ago) link

Sorry, I forget that other people can see images/youtubes without clicking on them. But yeah, Prymaxe demos are terrible, particularly for their jam-along backing tracks and for their tendency to showcase pedals on both rhythm and lead simultaneously. I wouldn't mind hearing more pedals demoed in an actual band context though.

how's life, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 13:02 (nine years ago) link

oh just teasing - don't apologize! i haven't listened to this one but fwiw in a band context demo i'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between a klon and a bad monkey

resulting post (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 13:13 (nine years ago) link

90% of pedal demos are close to unwatchable for me, but yeah, prymaxe is among the worst
