2011 season

After a back and forth preseason, Hanie won a battle with Nate Enderle for the second position on the depth chart. Against the San Diego Chargers in week 11, starting quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a broken thumb on his throwing hand. The following day, the Bears reported that Cutler would need to have surgery on the thumb, possibly ending his season. Hanie was named the starter for the Bears until Cutler's return.

On November 27, 2011 Hanie started his first NFL game against the Oakland Raiders. He threw two touchdowns and three interceptions in the 25-20 loss, snapping the Bears' 5-game winning streak. In that game with 8 seconds left, looking to spike the ball, Hanie stepped backwards, as if attempting a pass, and then spiked the ball. He was charged with intentional grounding and was forced to runoff the clock 10 more seconds, preserving a Raiders win. The following week, Hanie threw three interceptions in a 10-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Baltimore Ravens

Hanie signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens on April 16, 2013 as competition for Tyrod Taylor for the backup quarterback position. He was released on August 30, 2013.
Cleveland Browns

Hanie was signed by the Cleveland Browns on December 3, 2013.[8] Hanie was waived on December 10.[9]
Dallas Cowboys

Hanie was signed to a one year deal by the Dallas Cowboys on April 23, 2014. Hanie was released by the team on August 26, 2014. [10]

Collins was signed by the Chicago Bears to a one-year deal for the 2010 season. Bruce Wolfe's eight year-old son was involved in an "aggressive block" on Craig Krenzel's son that left lil' Krenzel without his helmet.

Wolfe alleges that Krenzel, an assistant coach on his son's team, ran over to to separate the two boys. Wolfe alleges Krenzel "grabbed [Wolfe's son] by the shoulder pads and yelled at him."

Wolfe was so perturbed by Krenzel's actions, he filed a police report in which he requested assault charges be brought up against the former Ohio State quarterback.

No charges, however, have been filed against Krenzel.

A March 26 pet-adoption charity event at a Chicago Bloomingdale’s attempted to auction off a football signed by Jay Cutler. The starting bid was $100. No one placed any bids. No one. Zero.

Fortunately for the Anti-Cruelty Society, an anonymous man bought the football for $100 Thursday, saying he planned to give it to his son. He presumably stayed anonymous because he didn’t want his friends knowing that he bought a football autographed by Jay Cutler.

Joshua Treadwell McCown (born July 4, 1979) is an American football quarterback for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at SMU and Sam Houston State. McCown has also played for the Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Hartford Colonials, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns. He is the older brother of fellow NFL quarterback Luke McCown and younger brother of former Texas A&M quarterback Randy McCown.

Chicago Bears[edit]
On April 30, 2016, Hoyer agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Chicago Bears.[25] After an injury to starting quarterback Jay Cutler in Week 2, Hoyer started the Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys and threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns in a 31–17 loss.[26] The following week, Hoyer threw two touchdowns for 302 yards in a 17–14 victory over the Detroit Lions.[27] A week later in a 29–23 loss to the Colts, he threw for a career-high 397 yards, the most by a Bears quarterback since Jim Miller threw for 422 yards in 1999 and the fifth-most in Bears history. Chicago Bears[edit]

Following an injury to the Bears' backup quarterback Brian Hoyer against the Green Bay Packers on October 20, Barkley made his first NFL appearance as a Chicago Bear, going 6 of 15 for 81 yards; he threw for zero touchdowns and two interceptions.[53] After Jay Cutler suffered a shoulder injury against the Giants, Barkley started the following week's game against the Tennessee Titans.[54] Barkley completed 28 of 54 passes for 316 yards with three touchdowns, two interceptions, and a 72.8 passer rating, nearly rallying the Bears from a 20-point deficit in the fourth quarter before losing 27–21.[55] Barkley earned his first NFL win the very next week on December 4, a 26–6 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Soldier Field.[56] He completed 11 for 18 passes for 192 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 97.5 passer rating.[57] On December 18, Barkley completed 30 passes for 362 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions as the Bears nearly upset the Green Bay Packers, ultimately losing 30–27 on a last-second field goal.[58] Barkley struggled in the following week's game against the Washington Redskins, a 41–21 loss; although he threw for 323 yards and two touchdown passes, he also threw five interceptions, including on four consecutive drives in the second half. San Francisco 49ers[edit]
On March 10, 2017, Barkley signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.[63]

2014 season[edit]
New head coach Lovie Smith quickly announced that newly signed journeyman Josh McCown would be the starting quarterback for the upcoming 2014 season, leaving Glennon's future in Tampa Bay in question. On May 10, Smith stated while McCown would be the starter, Glennon was the Bucs' "quarterback of the future". That same day, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that the Bucs turned down at least six trade offers for Glennon during the 2014 NFL Draft.[7]

Glennon made his 2014 season debut Week 3 on Thursday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons. Glennon entered the game near the end of the first half, after McCown suffered a thumb injury. At the time of Glennon's entry into the game, the Bucs already trailed 35–0. Glennon completed 17 of 24 passes for 121 yards, 1 touchdown, and no interceptions. The Bucs lost the game 56–14.

With McCown unable to play due to his injury, Glennon started the next five games for the Bucs. The team lost all five games, and Smith then announced that McCown would reclaim the starting quarterback job for Week 10.

The Bucs finished the season a league worst 2–14, and 1–4 with Glennon as the quarterback. Glennon finished his second season campaign with an 83.3 passer rating. He completed 57.6 percent of his passes (117 of 203) for 1,417 passing yards, and threw 10 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

2015 season[edit]
Glennon did not see any playing time during the 2015 season. He was the backup to the number one overall pick Jameis Winston.

2016 season[edit]
Glennon was the backup to Winston in 2016. After Winston suffered a knee injury midway through the fourth quarter of the Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons, Glennon entered and completed 10 of 11 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.[8] Glennon also appeared in the Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears but did not record any statistics.[9]

For the 2018 regular season, he served as the backup to Mitchell Trubisky. In week four, he saw action against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a trick play nicknamed "Willy Wonka", which had been designed by coach Matt Nagy and the quarterbacks and named by Daniel days before the game.[76][77] On the Buccaneers' three-yard line, Daniel joined Trubisky in the backfield in the shotgun formation. Before the play began, receiver Taylor Gabriel and tight end Trey Burton moved along the line of scrimmage to confuse the defense. Upon receiving the snap, Trubisky quickly pitched the ball forward to Gabriel on a shovel pass. Trubisky then faked a hand-off to Daniel as Gabriel scored the touchdown.[78]

Andy Dalton:

On March 17, 2021, the Bears signed Dalton to a one-year contract worth $10 million, and up to $13 million in incentives.[154] Dalton started the first two games before suffering a knee injury.[155] He was then relegated to the backup quarterback after Justin Fields was named the starter.[156] Against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11, Dalton entered the game in the third quarter after Fields left the game with a rib injury. Dalton threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns as the Bears lost 13–16.[157] In the 2021 season, Dalton passed for 1,512 yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions in eight games.[158]

Andy Dalton is still better than Justin Fields. OSU QBs are all false gold.

Some experts caution patience with Fields, saw one say being the Bears QB was “the worst position in football right now”, but even in that supposed context he’s looking lost. It’s just amazing to me how badly they whiff on QBs, every time out. The Browns whiffed on Mayfield when they could have gone with Josh Allen, but when he was on his game Mayfield was markedly better than Trubisky. Fields makes Trubisky look like Mayfield, though. I know it’s always hard to predict with these guys but you’d think they’d even accidentally draft a Mahomes once in awhile, or sign a backup who turns into a surprise star, but instead it’s just…*gestures upthread*

I really feel like evaluating QBs in their first few seasons has been skewed by some of the early success stories that happened in recent years, which prior to this decade, were pretty atypical. Dan Fouts took four years to get a starting job, Elway was terrible for four years, Chargers were ready to move on from Brees after 3, drafted his replacement, and he had his best season to that point in his 4th year.

part of it is how the rules have changed more and more over the years to benefit offense, but it's still very wild that we have Herberts and Dak Prescott type situations as often as we have (and yet we've also seen a lot of regression for QB wunderkids as well in subsequent seasons).

that said, the little I've seen of Fields hasn't impressed me much. I'm still of the belief a young QB should ride the pine his first year and learn from the bench and practice, with a journeyman to learn from as a starter.

There is that too. Probably the most ideal situation is the Green Bay method, to have an older QB who refuses to leave and draft your next stud and torture him by leaving him on the bench for several seasons.

It is hard to tell. No one really thought Dak Prescott would have been that good coming out of college. Then you got guys like Tony Romo or Kurt Warner that literally come out of nowhere.

I was curious to see how Mitch would do with the Steelers. It has been a while, but there used to be quite a few guys that seemed to figure it out way later.

Rich Gannon is one of those types who was a heck of an athlete but they seemed raw early in their career.

Gannon was a weird one, one of those dudes that was middling-to-'pretty good' at best for his entire career and then managed to become a stud in a defense-heavy era (I guess having Brown and Rice didn't hurt).

speaking of, football from 2000-2006 or so was sooooooooooo dire from an offensive standpoint, like, all offenses did back then was run one feature back into the ground, if you averaged 350 yards/game you were a league leading offense lmao. my Fins won their last playoff game in 2000 with Jay Fiedler, an offense that averaged under 300 yards/game and whose defense did all the scoring.

everyone used to say "the defenses are just that good" as a defense, but in that same era, you had no-name running backs putting up 1300-1400 yard seasons, and run defense was abysmal.

I really feel like NFL executives breathed a sigh of relief when Rodgers emerged as the next big stud because all of the greats of the 80s/90s were almost gone, and there weren't a whole lot of big name successors...and then Rodgers et al kind of brought on a QB renaissance, no doubt aided by the fact that rules continued to be bent towards the passing game, and teams realized their RBs that they ran 450 times a season had to retire by age 29, so they went back to RB by committee

I kinda think NFL is running out of the QBs to an extent. They had a window where they had all these guys (Big Ben, Mannings, Brees etc...)

While they have gotten a couple new elite ones, the drop off is probably more severe now than it's been and there is more middling in the Qb game.

I think that is where Shanahan is pretty smart with the Niners. He's got an offense that kinda works without not having to have the Ferrari Qb.

yeah we've started to start cycling through another weak era. we won't see an era like 2000-2006 again, but definitely more teams than in years past with QB issues. lots of QBs who were one year wonders and fell off too.
