Does anyone else know or love this song from the bonus disc that came with "One Beat"?

I have 2 SK shirts, one from their final tour that has a silhouette of a dog on it and says "Sleater-Kinney" very tiny and I never wear it bcz it looks like a dumb THE BLACK DOG MARTHAS VINEYARD shirt
The other looks like a cool stencil and I cut it into a tank top and I have had it for over 10 years and it is totally threadbare because it is my favorite shirt

prefer "lions and tigers" to at least 2/3rds of the songs on one beat

I'm so bummed I missed the original pressing of the box set. 3,000 sold out quickly! A small number have shown up on Discogs but for mostly silly money. Did any of them make it to shops?
― Your Ribs are My Ladder, Sunday, 14 December 2014 23:08 (nine years ago) link
first run was colored vinyl, second was black. I'm not sure if they ever got to shops, but if they did it would have been that second pressing.

Haven't heard it yet, but I imagine it makes a big difference to be in a band, knocking out great album after great album, tour record tour, etc., then take almost a decade off, reconvene, and be expected to adhere to standard. First you have to learn how to be a band again, but then you have to actually write naturally, and not try to write "a new S-K album," which is probably tough after so many years not writing a new S-K album and certainly would explain why so few reunions produce material on par with the formative stuff (see: the miracle of Mission of Burma). It might be even tougher for a band like S-K, which clearly was not the sort of band where Carrie or Corin just brought a song fully formed and arranged to the studio. Like Fugazi, S-K sounded like a band whose songs stemmed from jamming and collaboration.

then take almost a decade off
This still boggles my mind, it seems in my mind like the split was only 3-4 years ago.

"Carrie or Corin just brought a song fully formed and arranged to the studio"
actually from first listens i would say the new record sounds as if they tried to do just this, more or less

The newsprint version of the article today has a new title:Riot Women. They're wearing heels in the photo, which takes up much of the Arts & Leisure section front page.

“In here,” Ms. Brownstein said, “it always seemed dark and insular, like we were assembling explosive devices and then wondering how and where they’ll detonate, and how big the explosion will be.”
It'll never happen irl, but I'm hearing a fantastic S-K cover of "Urban Guerrilla" in my head right now. Carrie sings the "So let's not talk of love and flowers/And things that don't explode" part.

I wonder if partially ripping the melody of Lita Ford's Kiss Me Deadly in Hey Darling was intentional.

I'd love to buy a first pressing of the box set if anyone has a (non-Discogs, where I got burned trying to buy it last month!) lead... thank you!

I accidentally streamed the John Carpenter song over the tail end of one of these songs and thought that there was an arpeggiated synth outro.

btw - is it me or does a lot of this really sound like an actual bass guitar not just a down-tuned 6 string?

just finished, i liked it! i thought the first single was probably the worst song but overall it was solid, very frantic vibe & quick paced, like that they kept it short and punchy, running time can't be that long
overall it feels a bit like the mission of burma post reunion albums or dino jr. post reunion albums, a band just sort of magically picking up where they left off

i've never been able to get into any s-k album other than one beat, it just seems a thousand times hookier than anything else they've done. but this is reminding me of it!
― lex pretend, Monday, 12 January 2015 18:24 (nine years ago) link
Yeah this was fantastic.
― Evan, Monday, 12 January 2015 18:29 (nine years ago) link
'one beat' is their hookiest to date (along with this) but the other albums are great too. however i think maybe you'd like the tunes from the other albums better live, because when i saw them live in 2000 everything clicked for me, they are incredible onstage.

yes! i bought tickets for me & my wife because they went on sale right before our anniversary and she's a huge fan but the show in minneapolis happens to actually be ON valentine's day so i was like wtf are we gonna do about babysitting but it turns out a friend of ours can so we can go :)
i figured i could flip the ticket because it sold out in like 15 mins but still psyched to be able to go

It took 2-3 tracks for the album to really "kick in" for me, but now we're rolling.
I still prefer The Woods to this but I'm not a serious S-K fan, so...
