Having seen Seth Meyers' attempt to do that, I'd agree.

Aww sweet!

SF show on a weekend too!

TAKING SIDES: HUMANS VS. GUACAMOLEEE (Leee), Tuesday, 9 December 2014 18:25 (nine years ago) link

I'm supposed to be in Austin that weekend and free the night of their show.

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 9 December 2014 18:41 (nine years ago) link

Still really weird that I get to see the first show, kind of like they're warming up in front of the rubes before playing the real places.

joygoat, Tuesday, 9 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

Scored a ticket for Austin!

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 16:07 (nine years ago) link

Can't get the SK site to load, it's just going through Ticketmaster, right?

TAKING SIDES: HUMANS VS. GUACAMOLEEE (Leee), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 18:14 (nine years ago) link

Christ, Seattle sold out in ~30 seconds for both dates.

Tomás Piñon (Ryan), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 18:15 (nine years ago) link

Ugh I blame Portlandia.

TAKING SIDES: HUMANS VS. GUACAMOLEEE (Leee), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 18:16 (nine years ago) link

Xps I did it through the S-K main page, which links through to a non-Ticketmaster ticket site.

Remember though, this is just a presale allotment of tickets--more will be available soon.

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 18:33 (nine years ago) link

Apparently SF sold out in seconds as well, so a lot of fun nonsense.

TAKING SIDES: HUMANS VS. GUACAMOLEEE (Leee), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 18:44 (nine years ago) link

Before the general onsale Friday there will be a LiveNation pre-sale tomorrow at 10 AM in some markets. You can access this presale if you have the LiveNation Mobile App or with a password. Does anyone have the password?

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 23:14 (nine years ago) link

The password is "presents" not sure if this is for all markets (this is for the SF show)

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 23:52 (nine years ago) link

thanks. the SF sale on the site today was a pain in the ass.

akm, Thursday, 11 December 2014 03:07 (nine years ago) link

Got my LiveNation presale, more expensive than the SK presale but general sale is almost definitely going to be a frenzied rush.

TAKING SIDES: HUMANS VS. GUACAMOLEEE (Leee), Thursday, 11 December 2014 18:22 (nine years ago) link

what is the SF password? presents doesn't seem to work

akm, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:20 (nine years ago) link

maybe the whole thing went to shit as usual with these presales

akm, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:21 (nine years ago) link

oh it was a flash issue. why the fuck are they still using flash on ticketmaster/LN? jesus. ticket obtained.

akm, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:41 (nine years ago) link

I think I asked this once before but didn't get any responses, so: is this one of the few exceptions to the "Don't wear a band's t-shirt to their concerts" rule?

TAKING SIDES: HUMANS VS. GUACAMOLEEE (Leee), Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:04 (nine years ago) link

i have a picture of me and janet weiss at a 2002 show in which i'm wearing a SK shirt, which has always kind of embarrassed me :(

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:19 (nine years ago) link

You need to get that picture on a shirt and wear it to the show.

how's life, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:20 (nine years ago) link

And get another picture with Janet, naturally.

Evan, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:28 (nine years ago) link

I've never owned an S-K shirt :-(

But I do have one for the Corin Tucker Band!

Do they still sell the "S-K Is For Lovers" one? It's not in the new online store.

I have 2 SK shirts, one from their final tour that has a silhouette of a dog on it and says "Sleater-Kinney" very tiny and I never wear it bcz it looks like a dumb THE BLACK DOG MARTHAS VINEYARD shirt

The other looks like a cool stencil and I cut it into a tank top and I have had it for over 10 years and it is totally threadbare because it is my favorite shirt

prefer "lions and tigers" to at least 2/3rds of the songs on one beat

I'm so bummed I missed the original pressing of the box set. 3,000 sold out quickly! A small number have shown up on Discogs but for mostly silly money. Did any of them make it to shops?

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Sunday, 14 December 2014 23:08 (nine years ago) link

first run was colored vinyl, second was black. I'm not sure if they ever got to shops, but if they did it would have been that second pressing.

nostormo, Tuesday, 30 December 2014 17:41 (nine years ago) link

Haven't heard it yet, but I imagine it makes a big difference to be in a band, knocking out great album after great album, tour record tour, etc., then take almost a decade off, reconvene, and be expected to adhere to standard. First you have to learn how to be a band again, but then you have to actually write naturally, and not try to write "a new S-K album," which is probably tough after so many years not writing a new S-K album and certainly would explain why so few reunions produce material on par with the formative stuff (see: the miracle of Mission of Burma). It might be even tougher for a band like S-K, which clearly was not the sort of band where Carrie or Corin just brought a song fully formed and arranged to the studio. Like Fugazi, S-K sounded like a band whose songs stemmed from jamming and collaboration.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 December 2014 17:49 (nine years ago) link

then take almost a decade off

This still boggles my mind, it seems in my mind like the split was only 3-4 years ago.

"Carrie or Corin just brought a song fully formed and arranged to the studio"

actually from first listens i would say the new record sounds as if they tried to do just this, more or less

“In here,” Ms. Brownstein said, “it always seemed dark and insular, like we were assembling explosive devices and then wondering how and where they’ll detonate, and how big the explosion will be.”

It'll never happen irl, but I'm hearing a fantastic S-K cover of "Urban Guerrilla" in my head right now. Carrie sings the "So let's not talk of love and flowers/And things that don't explode" part.

I wonder if partially ripping the melody of Lita Ford's Kiss Me Deadly in Hey Darling was intentional.

I'd love to buy a first pressing of the box set if anyone has a (non-Discogs, where I got burned trying to buy it last month!) lead... thank you!
