Almost 30 years ago, metal band Judas Priest found themselves embroiled in a legal proceedings after allegations that subliminal messages in their music drove two Nevada teens to insanity. Benoit & Sergio's new EP That's the Party Talking may land the classy-dance duo in a similar situation, as we're pretty sure it's subtly imploring us to do drugs.

yeah it's a masterpiece, i put it on a couple times a year and it always kills me. between b&s and those early nicolas jaar singles there was some really beautiful airy tactile post-minimal house in the early 2010s, for dilettantes like me who only find out about music thru ilx at least

from their new-ish EP; I don't think there's ever gonna be an LP.

Back in 2012, when I was describing their ace track "Lipstick and Lace" to friends, I assumed their name was pronounced "Ben-wah and Saire-heo", like some sort of French/Spanish crossover. Is that in any way correct? Or is merely as the English phonetics would indicate?

Why are they seemingly so ignored / unknown?
― Evan, Thursday, 19 January 2023 18:27 (one year ago) link
I thought the album was really underwhelming, one of the biggest disappointments of 2022, especially after it taking so long to arrive
― boxedjoy, Thursday, 19 January 2023 18:28 (one year ago) link
Shame you felt that way. Guess it helps that they're pretty new to me. Years of anticipation is hard to live up to.
― Evan, Friday, 20 January 2023 15:19 (one year ago) link
Ah, makes sense, Evan!
Many of the rest of us have been awaiting that album for a decade, so when expectation is building on the back of “Walk and Talk,” “Boy Trouble,” “Adjustments,” etc …
― The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 20 January 2023 15:22 (one year ago) link
“Lost Decade,” the title track, is my sole keeper from this record, and it isn’t close to my favorites of theirs overall
― The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 20 January 2023 15:23 (one year ago) link
Just surprising then that there wasn't a discussion. Though I remember seeing a disappointed comment somewhere that isn't here. Still!
― Evan, Friday, 20 January 2023 17:38 (one year ago) link
“Principles” still completely blows me away. Do people not care about that one for some reason?
― not too strange just bad audio (brimstead), Friday, 20 January 2023 20:40 (one year ago) link
I hadn’t been aware of “Principles” somehow. It’s pretty good!
― The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 21 January 2023 16:13 (one year ago) link
“Principles” is great, though I do think they peaked early where with “Full Grown Man” and “What I’ve Lost”.
