Konrad Black was pretty good at Fabric. I have clashing commitments that night tho.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 11:13 (eighteen years ago) link

toby how come you have bought tickets? is it necessary do you think? or is it just a queue skipping thing? going through ticketweb seems to put another fiver on top, which is a bit steep for me.

yeah, it did stick an extra 4 quid or so on, which was pretty annoying. not sure if you get to queue-jump, but the ticket claims guaranteed entry if you turn up by one, and i like the idea of being able to show up at half 12 rather than queue at 11, esp as the late end means i'd rather not start until 1, anyway. also it was a way of making myself go, rather than wimp out at the last minute.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 11:38 (eighteen years ago) link

i want to go to this (the 22nd) a lot, unfortunately my friends are being lame. last time i went to fabric by myself i had a great time, though! so i might do that again.

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 11:40 (eighteen years ago) link

ok! who's doing this insane birthday night then?

the house party i was going to go to looks like it might be a bit shit, so i think i might concentrate my efforts on fabricking.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 15:44 (eighteen years ago) link

I won't be over, this time! I just want to wait until I'm feeling better 100 percent before going away somewhere and trying to enjoy myself. Next big gig I will try and see though, maybe even something in November or December.

PS:Ricky was Konrad Black DJing or live?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 15:55 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm going! i think cis and ricky are, too, or at least they said they were...

konrad black was djing, ronan. you should come to magda/richie/ricardo at fabric on nov 19th.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 16:01 (eighteen years ago) link

I love Konrad Black's singles, both of them.

It's a shame about this weekend I really want to see M.A.N.D.Y. I will definitely think about Magda/Richie/Ricardo though. Just didn't want to pay for a flight and make the effort of going over while I'm still not really feeling the best.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 16:24 (eighteen years ago) link

it is 50-50 if i will be able to make this. i am hoping, however, that a new consignment is on its way, the pill drought must end soon

terry lennox. (gareth), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 16:32 (eighteen years ago) link

have you been listening to 'Finisterre'?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 16:36 (eighteen years ago) link

ok im in. am making my plans now.

going to jan jelinek and raumschmiere the night before, at cargo. gonna leave before raumschmiere tho.

G, come to fabric!

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

does anyone have any pre-fabric plans? i might have to go to this house party first (in fucking shepherd's bush) but am aiming to turn up at fabric around 12.30-1.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 10:29 (eighteen years ago) link

i have to go to my sister's housewarming first, so was planning on showing up a bit after midnight. do they have a separate queue for ticket holders?! the ticket claims it guarantees entry before 1, but i imagine if i show up at half 12 there'll be a huge queue...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't go now that I've blown my spare cash on a plane ticket.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

argh i dont know whether to use online stuff and risk having to pick up my ticket, and queueing, or buyign a physical ticket at hmv or something (if you still can) and risk still having to queue, or not buying a ticket at all.

whats the deal with tickets? can you really just waltz in? or, which queue do you have to join?

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Right. I'm currently absolutely dog-tired and I have another insane day at work tomorrow. I also learned today that one of my best friends in the whole world who I haven't seen in an entire year is over on Sunday for the day, and god knows when she'll be back again. Also, if my grandad's condition takes a turn for the worse I might have to head Northwards for the weekend. So, I very much doubt I am going to make this now, unless I manage to sleep for most of Saturday day.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 20 October 2005 20:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I am still vaguely toying with the idea of going, but it depends 100% on how much I ruin myself on Friday night. Which could well be 'very badly'.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 October 2005 20:56 (eighteen years ago) link

toby and ambrose, i will email you my number so we can meet up. i'm going to be useless for plans because of this fucking shepherd's bush thing which i probably won't even go to though. not planning to get to fabric before midnight though - not sure how it is for tickets though.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 21 October 2005 10:55 (eighteen years ago) link

i might be coming now. not sure. wish i had sum pillz

terry lennox. (gareth), Friday, 21 October 2005 10:59 (eighteen years ago) link

i might NOT be coming now, as i missed my train to london (AGAIN!) due to forgetrting tio take my booking number, and another single was 50 quid. will see how much things are from sheffield, opr consider megabus tomorrow, and scope it out. also, i missed getting advance tickets which have sold out

but im listening to tonetrager !welcome back kotter" now and thinking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:37 (eighteen years ago) link

if tonight, do you expect it to be good?

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 22 October 2005 11:42 (eighteen years ago) link

might try for hawtin etc in Nov though..
enjoy, people

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 22 October 2005 14:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I am strangely unruined but think a quiet night and a few local beers might be a better idea tonight. Have fun, those of you that are going.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 22 October 2005 15:26 (eighteen years ago) link

wow! just waiting for a bus home, can't believe it's going on for at least six more hours... every minute i was there was awesome, basically.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 23 October 2005 03:36 (eighteen years ago) link

SO GOOD! Booka Shade I love you. MANDY I love you. 'Body Language' please be on loop in my head until further notice. Luciano I like you but please don't be so dry and techy.

I haven't slept yet. Instead when I got back I read the new Bret Easton Ellis novel. All of it, in one go. My mind feels a bit weird now.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 23 October 2005 15:18 (eighteen years ago) link

TELL ME ABOUT GREEN VELVET AND THE LASERS!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 October 2005 16:03 (eighteen years ago) link

what did you think of lunar park, lex? are you an ellis fan?

matt - THERE WERE LASERS IN ROOM ONE! possibly there have always been and i hadn't noticed.

green velvet was the best thing ever basically. esp, it has to be said, the 2nd half (after lex and cis went to see luciano) - flash, war on the saints, la la land and the lasers. i will say more about this tomorrow when i can make sense of it.

booka shade - live drumming which was actually good!

umm i need to sleep a lot more before i can say anything more, really.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 23 October 2005 18:37 (eighteen years ago) link

:(

I was too tired to do anything yesterday at all. I tried to go to Sainsbury's to get some food but was so hassled by the queues I decided to go home again. All of ten minute walk usually, but it took me half an hour on account of having to sit down in Barnards Park for fifteen minutes to recover my strength. After that, there was no way I was going to come out.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 23 October 2005 18:47 (eighteen years ago) link

You alright now, man?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 23 October 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, I slept for eleven hours last night and am feeling OK-ish.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 23 October 2005 19:22 (eighteen years ago) link

an unfortunate side-effect for me of not getting much sleep last night (and being a wuss) was that i fainted in the cinema this evening - colette pretty much had to carry me out after i told her that i intended to crawl to the back. oops.

also everyone should come along on nov 19th! i bought my ticket this afternoon.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 23 October 2005 19:39 (eighteen years ago) link

shit I am jealous of the fabric fun!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 23 October 2005 19:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Did you YSI that mix, Toby? I am always filled with enthusiasm for the young people's dance music, though it doesn't always survive exposure to it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 23 October 2005 20:20 (eighteen years ago) link

we are between isps at home (i'm posting now from a neighbour's weak wireless connection), but we should have an 8mbps connection on thursday, so i'll ysi then...

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 23 October 2005 20:23 (eighteen years ago) link

there have always been lasers toby! and they've always been green. i love lasers.

i loved lunar park, i'm still trying to marshal my thoughts into coherence because it did my head in a bit - i think it's possibly my favourite ellis work (and i LOVE his stuff generally esp glamorama). the astonishingly narcissistic reality/fiction elision actually works really well though i think the most important element of the book might be the stephen king influence. oh and the last couple of pages are astonishing.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 24 October 2005 09:19 (eighteen years ago) link

missed this, and alex smoke and guido schnieder in leeds the samwe night!

i bet something cmoes up on the 19th too....

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:46 (eighteen years ago) link

i thought lunar park was pretty good, much better than i'd expected. perhaps i should give glamorama another go (i've read all the others several times, but gave up on that really early on for some reason). lunar park definitely gives me hope that he'll carry on being "relevant".

back to the subject of fabric - how late did you guys stay? were you there when the free beer got handed out?

i haven't really got a great deal to add to what i said above, except that mandy were really, really good, although i think the only thing i recognised was trentemoller's "polar shift".

anyway, november the 19th, magda/richie/ricardo, everyone should come! i'm ysi-ing the hawtin/villalobos essential mix now, guess i'll put up a link in an hour or so...

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 29 October 2005 19:04 (eighteen years ago) link

great!

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 30 October 2005 10:26 (eighteen years ago) link

rofl at Pete Tong's intro to that mix. DJ Sneak = 'mr minimal from chicago' wtf? How can that man have been in the business for so long and still be so clueless?

Barnaby (Barnaby), Sunday, 30 October 2005 15:38 (eighteen years ago) link

you mean DJ Sneak is not really a man?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 31 October 2005 11:28 (eighteen years ago) link

er... no he's not really minimal. Split hair I suppose.

Barnaby (Barnaby), Monday, 31 October 2005 12:36 (eighteen years ago) link

hey, does anyone know if i can buy a student ticket for hawtin/ricky v over the net? do i just show my nus card on the door or what?

nude spoons, Thursday, 10 November 2005 18:23 (eighteen years ago) link

dunno about that, but on the subject of dancing...

the lady and i are putting on a night on sat sep 26th at the bull in clerkenwell. it's called such great heights and will involve all sorts of fun aviation-related things as well as much dancing to unavoidable leg-shakers of this ilk:

Gwen Stefani ELO Public Image Ltd Supremes Franz Ferdinand Sonics Saint Etienne Rolling Stones Fleetwood Mac Basement Jaxx David Bowie New Order Tom Vek Pulp Rachel Stevens LCD Soundsystem Roxy Music Arcade Fire Kraftwerk Rakes Postal Service A Certain Ratio Annie

So do please come. It's only £1.99 to get in, and you'll get a polystyrene aeroplane for your trouble...(we bought *way* too many)

< /plug>

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 10 November 2005 18:42 (eighteen years ago) link

you presumably mean *nov* 26th, charlie?

i don't think you can buy nus advance tickets for fabric, but presumably showing an nus card on the door does the job.

who's coming to hawtin/villalobos, anyway?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 10 November 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

me + others

eg Ed! apparently? Ed?

Gareth? i texted him but to no avail

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 10 November 2005 19:36 (eighteen years ago) link

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 10 November 2005 19:50 (eighteen years ago) link

that link, is a link to a search on ilx. perhaps a moderator might want to remove it, in case it slows the world down.

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 10 November 2005 19:53 (eighteen years ago) link

aren't any mods going to do something about this????

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 10 November 2005 19:54 (eighteen years ago) link

fabric on 16th dec looks amazing.. 10 days after my birthday, end of term.. it's a sign!
