Last time I wore a mock was the late-80s and possibly the very-early-90s. I remember wearing a white one under a Nike Just Do It sweatshirt and thinking I looked cool and together but really I was just still some quiet kid who played a few sports.

i was actually going to sew something over the under armour logo (i found it in the trash) i was essentially inspired by my normcore style icon dev hynes

i've been wearing dumpstered classic yellow timberland boots recently which seems like its in the same vein.

True! I just feel like nobody has ever really worn the mock turtleneck well. I include myself in this. I distinctly remember wearing a hugely oversize purple mock turtleneck sweatshirt with I was in 7th grade with bugle boy jeans. And a bolo tie. A panda bear bolo tie. I thought I was hot shit too.

As a general rule necklaces with any kind of turtleneck is not good at all. Some exceptions for women and arty oversize big art teacher jewelry but

i have no idea
my mom gave me this shirt a zillion years ago and i only wore it because it's made of some weird unnatural substance that doesn't wrinkle and i was in a hurry

then i realized i was wearing a mock turtleneck and i thought of this thread

yeah - if it folds over it's not a mock it's a real one but I can't tell if that does or not

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 9 December 2014 21:08 (nine years ago) link

I'm wearing a mock turtleneck today and I don't have a camera and I know Kazimierz Brandys here is probably rocking a real TN but whatever...

mine doesn't fold over

vigetable (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 December 2014 21:11 (nine years ago) link

Also the neck of my mock TN is waaaaaaaay too big for me and consequently a) looks stupid, b) won't stay upright.

you have a nice neck la lechera!

something good about diamond studs w/mock turtleneck imo

one year passes...

Not that i have much of a clothes budget right now, and not that i love Frank & Oak's men's clothes all that much in the first place but some of them are quite nice, and they're a Montreal brand, so I was looking forward to their first women's collection - and it's SO BORING. Plus I'm pretty sure most of it wouldn't look great on me because boobs. And a little chat box opens at the bottom of the screen and asks "oversize, regular or boxy? ask us about our fit" or whatever - like those are the fashion choices in their world?? they even have a "boy tee" that looks exactly like the t-shirts my bf buys at walmart, right down to the thick collar. I guess I will keep buying my t-shirts at shows haha

anyway, they have mock turtlenecks (of course) and i needed a thread to rant in. it's not quite bad enough for the normcore thread but it's close...

I got a wicked haul at the Frank & Ocean warehouse sale a few weeks ago and my gf, jelly of my haul, was eagerly anticipating the ladies' collection but was similarly disappointed

Turtlenecks - both real and mock - are a rare enough sight in the UK that they're note considered normcore. Actually the mock TN I own that I mentioned upthread is probably the least normcore item of clothing I own.

remember to accesorize your turtleneck with a tobacco pipe of some kind

brimstead, Monday, 19 September 2016 20:24 (seven years ago) link

Maybe I could offset the Frenchness by simultaneously holding aloft a giant vegetable, possibly a marrow.
