Probably just a smack on the back of the head (make work project).

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 16:59 (twenty years ago) link

Bryan, here's a pat on the back: *!

I would send you kisses, but it might be weird since we've met in person. :-)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 17:01 (twenty years ago) link

Tell that to Nick.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 17:02 (twenty years ago) link

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 17:13 (twenty years ago) link

Hey Bryan, hope your appointment goes well.

I am supposed to be doing more research on the intricacies of sending flowers to a hospital (who knew it was so fucking complicated) but I cant...stay...away.

My dad's surgery lasted like 6 hours and it turns out that he's doing okay and is in recovery now. Initially I was calling and being transferred all over the hospital and nobody could tell me anything except for one woman who told me he was in the ER. Which freaked me out. But it was a mistake--I'm glad that the surgeons are not so incompetent as those who answer the phones at hospitals.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 23:11 (twenty years ago) link

Get the name of the hospital, call a florist, say it's this person, this hospital, this room (if you have it) and badabing!

It really shouldn't be any more complicated than that.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 23:13 (twenty years ago) link

If it is, your florist is a bag of dumb.

I'm glad he's okay, chica! xx

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 23:13 (twenty years ago) link

Bryan, hang in there, dude.

Julia, most surgeons are too scared to be THAT incompetent. I'll keep mine fingers crossed.

Pink, emailed you!

CP, sending off for your CDs today.

Happy hols, everyone. Be back tommorrow, if I can open my eyes.....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 23:17 (twenty years ago) link

Woot!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 23:18 (twenty years ago) link

CP, quick! Wanted to write check for the CDs, but don't have address to send it to. (Thought I did. Damn.) Email it to me?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 23:24 (twenty years ago) link

Glad to hear he's doing okay, Julia.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 23:30 (twenty years ago) link

Good luck with that Bryan and keep us posted.

GRRRRR!

that's my day. had a flat this morning. three of my windows were broken at school AFTER THANKSGIVING. sub had been asking repeatedly that they be fixed and was told "it's not a priority at the moment." So for over two weeks there have jagged pieces of glass in my windows and freezing wind blowing in constantly. We all had to wear our coats in the room and the kids are taking final exams. I'm going to hunt down the vice-prinicpal tomorrow and threaten to call my friend at Fox 4 News if he doesn't get them fixed.

Then after school I go to a DISD (school district) admin bldg to register for a graduate course I need. I parked on a public street and was inside for 30 minutes, top. Come back and my passenger side window was shattered. glass everywhere. They stole all my CDs and the portable cd player I use at the gym (all this stuff was shoved under a seat and not visible from outside). AND they stole my school bag. A tote bag that clearly had a DISD logo on the front and said "Where great teachers make a great difference." Jeez, what do you think would be in a bag like that? Lessee, student papers to grade, curriculum guides. WHAT THE FUCK WOULD A THEIF WANT WITH THAT?!

and now I have to shell out $200, again, to have my window fixed. :(

(oh and did I mention I was parked next to the lot where they keep cop cars? in broad daylight?)

ggrrrrr

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:35 (twenty years ago) link

Jesus, Sammy....(hugs)....There are dumb criminals, and then there are the unconscionable psychos. I'm so sorry, hon. Can you put a claim in at your insurance company so they can pay for the repairs?

oh and did I mention I was parked next to the lot where they keep cop cars? in broad daylight?)

You're assuming any cops were watching, though?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:38 (twenty years ago) link

Holy carp. When it rains it pours! Let me know if there's anything I can do.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:41 (twenty years ago) link

You're assuming any cops were watching, though?

i'm just making a comment on the size of the theif's huevos. Obstenibly cops are coming and going from right there.

and i only have libality insurance. fourth time since i've moved to dallas that my car's been broken into. third time i've had to replace glass.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:41 (twenty years ago) link

You obviously like the area, else I'd honestly think about moving to a different location (if you want to stay in Texas, that is)

And I'd consider catching the thief and slicing off his huevos.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:50 (twenty years ago) link

Hey dudes. Sorry about all your shit, Samantha :(

I am seriously contemplating an ILX break. The moderator issue is depressing me. Things are just *wrong* round here right now. Something's got to change.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:51 (twenty years ago) link

Jesus, Sam. You should get bullet-proof glass installed. I've had people break my window just for shits and giggles. Clearly they could learn something from the hooligans in Dallas.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:51 (twenty years ago) link

Not the first time that's been necessary, MC. If you leave, you'll be missed.

(xpost)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:52 (twenty years ago) link

I love the EDT! I don't want to let criminals run me out of my hood. I'm going to put one of those signs I always saw in NYC in my car: Stereo already stolen. No valuables inside.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:55 (twenty years ago) link

shit, sam, i'm sorry to hear about all that.

El Santo Claus (Kingfish), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 01:06 (twenty years ago) link

yo! i'm doing radio until 11pm EST tonight! tune in!

El Santo Claus (Kingfish), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:56 (twenty years ago) link

Sorry, Sam. Maybe the criminals will learn something from the school papers or perhaps decide to go into teaching.

I am REALLY slow this morning. Nick woke up super early and couldn't get back to sleep, so he was tossing and turning and keeping me awake. Normally, he would just go lay on the couch, but we got rid of our couch early on. S L E E P Y.

We're doing the 2nd interviews today at work. The other day, I thought I was going to get all stressed again, because my boss basically said that he would be willing to pay more for this position, WAY more if he has to do get someone near as good as me. Ok, then WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU PAY ME MORE?!?!! He's considering hiring one woman who gets paid 10k more than I do already a year and she has no real estate experience. But I reassure myself I don't want to work for him any more anyway.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 12:57 (twenty years ago) link

I'm feeling very freaked out and vulnerable and traumatised, and recent events have brought up a whole load of memories which I thought I'd successfully burried forever. And the worst part of it all is that I can't even talk about it here. :-(

I think that the coming internet break over Xmas will do me good.

I know I never write, Nic, we're never online at the same time, and I suck. You should come back and visit us, and we'll get together for a drink and a laugh.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:03 (twenty years ago) link

I'm so on edge and so exhausted and so tired of people and all I really want to do is stand up at the top of this lighthouse for a while.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:14 (twenty years ago) link

(I'm going there in February but I dunno if I can wait that long.)

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:17 (twenty years ago) link

I am prescribing you all one big dose of Christmas.

I was 15 minutes late to work this morning. Now I've managed to waste away the next 15 talking to Nick on the phone and catching up on some ILX activity.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 13:57 (twenty years ago) link

I'm doing this thing for work today that I have to do once in a while where I'm administering tests to pharmaceutical salespeople all day in a hotel meeting room. It's usually very very boring because it's a long test (2 1/2 hours) so for most of the time I'm just sitting here playing Hearts on a laptop while they type type type. But apparently they just installed WiFi in these rooms, and apparently our work laptops have wifi capabilities, because here I am online. Awesome. I can't use it during the morning session because I'm using all the newer laptops for testing, but this afternoon I'll have a free one that I can use, so I'll be doing some heavy duty ILXing. Yes. And only 5 more days of working here, so if I get busted, so what.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:06 (twenty years ago) link

*whispered:*(Hey, you guys, Nick has had a lot of coffee this morning)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:07 (twenty years ago) link

I TOLD you! It's boring! I'm trying not to fall asleep!

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:21 (twenty years ago) link

Cprek is way into wifi, I think it has something to do with this wardriving bidness he enjoys, but I just don't understand.

I may have just accepted a singing job in a funk band. Lawd have mercy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:28 (twenty years ago) link

*whispered [at regular volumes though {cuz I have no control over the volume of my voice right now}]*(this Nick has had some coffee too)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:29 (twenty years ago) link

ILE is so tense right now we could probably all do with a coffee break.

I feel like shit, cause a great deal of the tension was provoked by me. How many ways are there to say sorry?

I hate feeling like an asshole for trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Especially when you're proved wrong in the end.

Two more days of work, and then it's nothing but rest and relaxation for the next two weeks. Boy, rest and relaxation will be good.

Sarah McL, come back and post kitten pictures, PLEASE.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:09 (twenty years ago) link

Oh shit Kate just reminded me of teh awesomeness: after today, I only work one more day in 2003, which is next Monday. Over this span of time I'm getting my Volvo fixed (finally!), and might possibly be acquiring some tickets for the New Years Eve Flaming Lips/White Stripes show in Chicago, and, y'know, going to that. That would be a good way to end this fucked up year.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:11 (twenty years ago) link

ILE is so tense right now we could probably all do with a coffee break.

BONGO SOLO!

...

wait, fuck that,

XYLOPHONE SOLO!

El Santo Claus (Kingfish), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:12 (twenty years ago) link

Hooray for concert tickets! Hope you have a good time, Nickalicious!

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:17 (twenty years ago) link

HA! I had to vent a little with kitten pix because the mods thread was making me grumpy. And I don't WANT to be grumpy! I'm moving to Chicago and I'm all happy and shit.

Hey, I wanna go to that New Years show...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:18 (twenty years ago) link

I don't wanna get my hopes up, I might not get the tickets. This would be my first time in Chicago also.

Sarah, dude! You and Nick are gonna be in Chicago by then huh? You guys should find tickets and go too! That would be sweet.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:20 (twenty years ago) link

Sorry, I was premature, then, NL, I mean "GOOD LUCK with those concert tickets!" (In my optimist mind, you'd already got them.)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:21 (twenty years ago) link

Avoiding certain threads has helped me be totally confused by mentions of tensions on ilx. Oooh "mentions of tensions" that's going in the rhyme file!

ha ha yeah I'm pretty much considering them gotten, glass is half-full etc.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:22 (twenty years ago) link

I just wanna say...

I love reading iLX as most of you are incredibly intelligent and there are some great debates that go on around here. And as for the humour, well you guys are just too much. I often get strange looks from my colleagues as I burst into fits of laughter at my monitor.

I kiss you ILX, and I hope that those who are stressed can get rid of it all by partying hard offline at Christmas. Those who aren't, well party hard anyway.

I'm gonna be sat here in work for most of Christmas so I will be logging into ILX more often than usual, so please continue to keep me entertained with the usual banter. (but less arguements please)

(pretty please?)

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:40 (twenty years ago) link

Hi, Ste. I've just noticed some of your posts today. How long have you been on ILX?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:42 (twenty years ago) link

Hi Ste, good to have you on board. There used to be a guy in an Oxford band called Ste. Are you him?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:43 (twenty years ago) link

Ste is just short for Steve, I think its rarely used like this but no I'm not the Ste from the band.

I've been here for about a year and a half now, I would guess.

My old username was Fuzzy but I grew to disklike it, but I never posted much anyhoo.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:47 (twenty years ago) link

Ah, yes. I remember Fuzzy.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:50 (twenty years ago) link

Just shoot me if I talk to anyone else on this board again, ever. I'm getting really sick of apologising to people. :-(

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 17:01 (twenty years ago) link

That Moderator thread, its totally ILX 'inverted' or something.
