HARBS Sumptuously creamy cakes and pies beckon from the bright showcase. Who can resist? There are no chairs or tables in this bakery, the first American branch of a Japanese cafe chain, but a doorway leads back to pleasant dining areas, where a cloudlike slice of cake can be yours, along with toasted sandwiches served on thick square slices of Japanese white bread. Choose from a B.L.T., a ham sandwich with onion and arugula, or a sandwich filled with an excellent spinach omelet (baveuse, or runny, as the French say). The desserts include green tea mousse cake with red bean and a layered crepe cake. The “rare” cheesecake is an unbaked mountain of fluff.
