or whatever the hell you call a 2B pencil here
Having a working computer after a month without it. Though not sure if I'll keep ubuntu.
A cure for a headspinning headcold.
Eating Caribbean food at Jamaica Joe's as well as Indian veg stuff from Kawal.
My new moleskin jeans in bright red with purple flashes. Synaesthetic tribute to The Creation?
The Pop Group who have just had 2 compilations released. 1 of which I've wanted a good remaster of for years, since losing my vinyl copy at least.Plus live sets have turned up on Dime including a '78 from Bristol which is great plus 2 from the reunion tour which I've yet to hear. Has me wondering if there is a list of what recordings exist from their original incarnation since there only seemed to be a couple around (Locarno, Ally Pally) for years and I got 2 new ones over the last year.
Doctor Who. Have just rewatched most of what there is with original footage plus a few photo montages.I got to the end of Donna Noble era but found The End of Time was missing from the folder. & there was no Matt Smith in there either. Oddly I just realised the Red Bus getting transported to another planet episode was missing too, that was a Tennant wasn't it?Also need to watch seasons 3 + 4 of Torchwood.
Watched Assignment 1 of Sapphire & Steel though I was more caught up in getting my computer running so not able to pay it my full attention. Will watch the rest through though.
Wanting to make some more garments, a waistcoat and a jacket and a few more shirts.Want to find a way to stop brocade I want to use as contrast on the jacket from bleeding colour when washed. One of my favourite pairs of jeans went pink thanks to it before.

vegemitgrrl i also moved to a new office. it's rad. i've never had my own office before so this is pretty fucking amazing, i have this huge window next to my desk and there is so much blue sky to look at. so i've been into putting shit on the walls. i have all these large photos from peru that my wife and i took from our trip a few years ago. i have these postcards from mexico from a work trip i took last year. i also cut up an old calendar of cool treehouses (like really badass treehouses, not suburban backyard treehouses) and put those up. it is just rad to create a space that feels comfortable and stimulating esp. since i spend a decent enough time here.
i listened to miles davis "calypso frelimo" this morning and it just blows me away every time i hear it. i am into that.
we made this sri lankan tomato sambal a few days ago that we eat as a condiment to curries. it's pretty intense and amazing. you fry unpeeled cloves of garlic, then you fry sliced onions, add a large handful of fresh curry leaves and a cinnamon stick, then you add tomatoes that have been soaking in salt and cayenne and a little sugar and simmer it until it is really saucy.
just getting deeper and deeper into this joni mitchell phase i've been enjoying. that studio albums 1968-1979 collection is honestly one of the best music purchases i've ever made.

also: growing my hair a little longer. i've had a buzz cut for most of the past 8 years. i have super curly hair and it feels good to embrace the curls again. i think it'd still qualify as "short" but it's long enough that the curls are definitely showing. feels good to have a little more hair for the winter.
also: smoking weed again. i took a long break, maybe 5 years? i'm not smoking a lot right now but every couple of weeks. getting high is fun.
― marcos, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 15:20 (nine years ago) link
is there a Stevolende autobiography post, because you are an individual who I've always found really interesting on ilx!
― jenny holzer, ilxor (mh), Wednesday, 19 November 2014 15:30 (nine years ago) link
xp I started doing this too! At age 27 I made the conscious decision to start smoking more, like several times a week instead of once every few months. It's very fun! Doing it so much more is helping me to better learn how my body deals w/ it, like my instinct is to just abandon the days-old dishes and chores and errands and just watch Scandal for 3 hours while I eat all the snacks in the apartment, so I have to tell myself OKAY STEVIE IF YOU WANNA DO THIS YOU HAVE TO PUSH THRU AND DO ALL THE DISHES BUT YOU CAN PLAY SOME MUSIC AND DANCE AND IT WILL BE V FUN IN A WAY
― Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 19 November 2014 16:29 (nine years ago) link
I mean this is like 420:101 but tbh I only really ever did it w/ friends or at parties, v v rarely by myself at home when there was work that needed to be done.

i like having everything super clean and tidy before i smoke. it's like the one ritualistic thing that i do and makes me feel like i have my stuff sorta together

yea me too. and stevie otm putting on some music and cleaning while high is definitely very fun

also i've been smoking on our back porch lately. it's been a nice ritual. it's kind of cool to force myself to sit outside for a while, it was really great in late summer when i started smoking again but even now when it's cold and rainy (it's a covered porch) is still kind of cool. just nice to get some fresh air and watch the trees for a while. they seem very alive, i become more conscious of that when i'm high lol. i can see them breathing you know?

marcos/stevie otm. play some tunes and get a lil' cleaning done, it's a great time!
right now i'm into examining my puppy's poop, all the time. lots of things happening there, pretty liquidy of late but i think we're going to be more solid as we head into the weekend.

Readings lots about medieval times and about to start a book on the Black Plague. Trying to look at history from a progressive perspective, and it's pretty bleak. Life has gotten much less violent and fearful, but all the old systems of control seem to still be in place. Environmental pollution, banking monopolies, political cronyism, market manipulation, commodities speculation, information leakers, anti-globalism, all the problems we tend to think are modern issues were going on 500 years ago. I really want someone to write a book on pre-American Western history taking into account the internet information revolution and the inclination towards egalitarianism.

that sounds greati am really into words using the -häxa- morpheme and it's because i saw that movie about the middle ages!
all the old systems of control seem to still be in placedoesn't take much to look around and see that this is true, agreebut things are getting a little better. for instance, i don't constantly fear being tortured because someone thinks i am a witch :)
