I am super into local historical societies that put up detailed histories online -- Roseville & Rocklin in the Sacramento area have done some really awesome work with long histories provided by local historians & it's kind of awesome.

Making psychedelic clothing. Just finished a shirt and jeans this week.
Cutting the time it takes me to make each garment down. Hoping to half it at least.
Doctor Who watching binge. Finished Troughton who I really like but wish had more video remaining instead of being audio and photo stills.
Now watching Peter Davison who is about ok but not classic.

Raymond Queneau's Zazie in the Metro. Want to read Le Chiendent which is currently around as Witchgrass.

Rebuilding stone walls which I hope remain in place once done once.

Should be fixing a computer which I've put off for a month waiting to shake off a cold/flu that shouldn't still be bothering me.

hey that sounds pretty good

marcos, Friday, 31 October 2014 13:00 (nine years ago) link

i am into -

getting excited about fall and winter, which is a HUGE fucking thing for me because i have seasonal affective disorder. i am trying to be open and positive about the cooler weather so far and it's working out pretty good. i might not feel this way in february or march (or shit, this weekend when it will start getting dark at 4:30 here in boston) but for now i'm okay.

will oldham/palace music. i've had a few of these albums for a while but they are really clicking for me right now and i love them.

joni mitchell. i love joni so much and right now i feel a big pull to get really deep into her albums, biographies, etc.

miles davis' autobiography and miles 70s records, especially get up with it and the complete on the corner sessions.

cheese. i was vegan for about 10 years until 2012 or and then starting eating eggs again and now i am really getting into cheese. it's very tasty.

chamois shirts. with fall and winter coming i am digging my chamois.

marcos, Friday, 31 October 2014 13:07 (nine years ago) link

Chamois, is that leather/suede or are there non-animal derived versions.

Stevolende, Friday, 31 October 2014 13:35 (nine years ago) link

what are your favorite cheeses?? can we recommend cheese @ u?

Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 31 October 2014 13:36 (nine years ago) link

oh my god yes you can! i don't know a lot and feel pretty simple. right now my favorite is probably bulgarian feta. it's much creamier than other fetas i've had and it doesn't have that chalky consistency. i also have some vermont cheddar that is really good. i bought some brie that was also really tasty.

marcos, Friday, 31 October 2014 13:41 (nine years ago) link

xp to stevolende, chamois shirts are these heavy flannel-type shirts usually with two pockets and solid colors:

marcos, Friday, 31 October 2014 13:42 (nine years ago) link

everyone pooh-poohs cheddar for being simple but this specific cheddar (Cabot Private Stock, comes in a black wax coating) is very sharp but also surprisingly creamy for a cheddar. It's really quite superior.

Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 31 October 2014 14:16 (nine years ago) link

It's sharp but not overly bitter and has a really nice flavor and the texture is wonderful and and and

Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 31 October 2014 14:17 (nine years ago) link

I am really into Parmigiano-Reggiano right now too bcz I mean *everyone* has had "parmesan cheese" and it's fine, whatever, and then you microplane some actual PR on top of something and yr just like "hooooooly shit what have I been doing for so long"; it is expensive but it is v v worth it.

Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 31 October 2014 14:18 (nine years ago) link

yes! my in-laws left a large block in our fridge after visiting last weekend. it is pricy but you don't need a lot imo. we had some on spaghetti with garlic and arugula and it was really good

marcos, Friday, 31 October 2014 14:32 (nine years ago) link

I'm presenting a 10-min thing about my newsletter to up to 70 people tomorrow morning, lord help me.

AND there's a slight chance I might present/facilitate a grad school class discussion in Nov, that remains to be worked out but UH WHAT??

And I facilitated a training session last week that was v v small time but still good experience.

So in short I guess I'm kind of into teaching right now!

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Friday, 31 October 2014 19:09 (nine years ago) link

Going through the menu of Jamaica Joe's restaurant gradually.
Tonight was callaloo and saltfish. Pretty hot but great.

The combination of cotton & linen as a blend in fabric.
Love the damson colour stuff i just used for my last jeans especially now that I know the gold motif printed on them looks more subtle than I thought. & shimmers nicely in reflected light.
I may be looking for fabric with this effect in future. Just chanced on it looking for the cotton linen blend from a source I'd bought from before. Think it's supposed to be curtain material. Makes distinctive jeans.
