Seriously you are letting one annoying sock hijack a thread on an album most of us really like, it's annoying. Just ignore him.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 28 October 2014 15:43 (nine years ago) link

But it's cute. He sits up and uses his little thumbs to type.

you all must have missed the great "follow-up album" "debate" in the D'Angelo thread

RTJ2 is a follow up to RTJ.

Not every album/thing by the same artist is counted as a follow up.

My fellow jewel runners.

Raccoon Tanuki, Tuesday, 28 October 2014 17:20 (nine years ago) link

hey good piece whiney! that was sweet how they became besties and stopped doing drugs, had no idea re the level of their success btw

"El-P and Killer Mike individually are both fantastic and no surprise this album is. To me it's the true essence of Hip Hop, lyrical wizardry and some great beat production by El-P that occasionally sounds old School east coast style, El-P does more than deliver beats his flow and wordplay is equally good... Killer Mike delivers some great Southern accented (that'd be South US, obviously) rhymes whilst El-P has a New Yorker accent and they both seem to bounce off each other seamlessly and it makes for fresh introspective.

Recommended if you like pure Hip hop all about the rhymes and music, no women/money crap delivered. "

My Amazon review. 5/5.

I forgot to say how much I loved the zombie hands mixed in with the old skool hip hop gold chain in that ironic way, the clever thing is the other zombie hand isn't even holding a gun and doesn't even have an arm. Design is on some real ill tumblr shit.

Not every album/thing by the same artist is counted as a follow up.

"Today Artist X released her first new album since her last album, which is actually a follow-up to the album before that, as well as a sequel to her first album, which was a follow-up to all the albums she'd listened to before turning 20."

It's just not good music, I advise you to get over your insecurity with your tastes.

It’s important to note that RTJ2 is an album—it’s on a real label and you can pay money to own it. And the transition from mixtape-to-album explains every progression El-P and Killer Mike have made in the past year.

The first album was on a real label and you can pay money to own it.

pretty sure I never downloaded the free RTJ and just paid for it, smdh at this guy

also smdh at a music critic not getting the diff between critically revered and popularly acclaimed, because uhh... music critics love that trio

People don't read the review. They see the bright red 9.0 BEST NEW MUSIC and then they click the Insound vinyl link. win-win

Evan, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 14:17 (nine years ago) link

it wouldn't be that bad a review if he cut all the parts where he's channeling REALNESS

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 14:18 (nine years ago) link

fwiw I'm probably setting the bar lower for him but I like Zach's verse.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 14:19 (nine years ago) link

Zack De La Rocha on "Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)" before the real thing comes through to spit some goofy, try-hard "Bombtrack"-style aggro braggadocio that doubles as the best verse of his life.

wow, can't tell if this is trying to damn with faint praise or not.

festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 14:22 (nine years ago) link

xxxpost goofy-ass writing aside i agree with the general thrust of the review, it is a notable step up from the debut

Cohen's writing is becoming so incoherent and laced with conservative ideology I feel like he's morphing into Gavin McInnes

from the fact review:

Is there anyone on earth right now who sounds like they’re having a better time than El-P and Killer Mike? And if so, how about that for a turnaround?

a turnaround for... anyone on earth?

xxpost um wut

there are definitely criticisms i could see someone levying against RTJ2 and run the jewels in general but sounding like shit off of psychopathic records is not one of them

and also pointsman, octopi don't bark (slothroprhymes), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 15:34 (nine years ago) link

I am sometimes amazed by how many rappers (*cough* white rappers) really emulate El-P or Aesop Rock's flows.

⌘-B (mh), Wednesday, 29 October 2014 15:39 (nine years ago) link

Aesop Rock is a dude whose flow I could never take. Should I reconsider?
