Just a wee shout about the gig my band and (by some coincidence) emil.y's band are playing at the Windmill in Brixton on Halloween Friday at the Windmill.

if i could just rewind this thing, how did this all go off anyway?

Germane Quip (NickB), Friday, 23 January 2015 00:15 (nine years ago) link

It didn't really turn into a FAP, I did spend a couple of hours chatting to Fizzles but DL & emily. both looked busy with their respective bands/entourages so we left them to it. It was a fun evening though.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 23 January 2015 13:47 (nine years ago) link

yeah, was gonna say, very enjoyable evening getting drunk monitoring alcohol intake with Colonel Poo, and enjoyed the bands but it didn't really go full FAP.

Fizzles, Friday, 23 January 2015 14:02 (nine years ago) link

Well I would be interested in any FAPs not before the 7th of February.

écorché (S-), Saturday, 24 January 2015 15:58 (nine years ago) link

three years pass...

So do ppl still do this? Early January beat the post holiday blues FAP?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Friday, 14 December 2018 22:29 (five years ago) link

I would be interested in this plan.

Andrew Farrell, Saturday, 15 December 2018 11:46 (five years ago) link

ILB FAPs, no-one else seems to anymore.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christ (Tom D.), Saturday, 15 December 2018 11:47 (five years ago) link

Yes at ILB a few of us gather around once a season.

Around on the 1st or 2nd that week - and possibly for a bit of the weekend.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 15 December 2018 13:22 (five years ago) link

I could be down for this - will be almost exactly a year after I had beers with a bunch of ilxors in New York!

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 15 December 2018 13:26 (five years ago) link

Aw, yay. Let’s make it happen then! :) Maybe the 3rd, 4th or 5th?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Saturday, 15 December 2018 17:37 (five years ago) link

dublin is a short hop ye lazy sods

gabbnebulous (darraghmac), Saturday, 15 December 2018 18:24 (five years ago) link

Right so clearly you should come then!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Saturday, 15 December 2018 18:54 (five years ago) link

better pubs here

and a better % of excellent posters yeah i said it

gabbnebulous (darraghmac), Saturday, 15 December 2018 18:55 (five years ago) link

Lol. So, you flew here for what was basically lunch a couple weeks ago but wouldn’t to enjoy our delightful company? I see how it is.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Saturday, 15 December 2018 18:59 (five years ago) link

I trust ilx to know which is the good pub in London

Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Saturday, 15 December 2018 19:03 (five years ago) link

i do like nice snug pub snub grub

gabbnebulous (darraghmac), Saturday, 15 December 2018 19:03 (five years ago) link

Bump because I’m hellbent on making this happen. Where is central - Soho-ish?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 00:05 (five years ago) link

*bumping this up* Blue posts maybe - haven't been there in years?

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 09:45 (five years ago) link

I will try to make it along also.

Good job xyzzz on suggesting "The" Blue Posts, famous for being a pub name that occurs several times within a too-close area, introducing old-days style FD. Which Blue Posts did you have in mind? (I basically never drink in the West End any more, FWIW, so I've pretty much lost touch with where might be OK.)

Tim, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 10:00 (five years ago) link

lol I don't remember there being so many Blue Posts. Think its the one on Berwick st.?

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 10:04 (five years ago) link

Newman Street was FAP location of yore.

Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 10:52 (five years ago) link

After an intensive nostalgia fest of reading 2002 - 2005 threads earlier this year, it was a weird feeling whenever I happened to visit any of the London pubs featured (eg Pineapple in Camden, the Clerk and Well, and various pubs in Fitzrovia) - and imagining the long-gone ghosts of previous FAPS.

Luna Schlosser, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:32 (five years ago) link

Pineapple is in Kentish Town btw.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christ (Tom D.), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:54 (five years ago) link

You’re right. Nice pub. It was a flying visit to Kentish Town - I didn’t get a chance to check out the Bull & Gate however.

Luna Schlosser, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:59 (five years ago) link

Probably for the best - it's gone Gastro.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 12:33 (five years ago) link

Indeed it has :(

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christ (Tom D.), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 13:40 (five years ago) link

If there’s a Blue Pollsts then I’d probably Newman Street, it’s a little quieter up there.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 13:57 (five years ago) link

I once went round every Blue Posts to see if anyone knew why they were called the Blue Posts and no one did outside of the usual spurious sounding and heavily caveated theories.

Pretty sure The Harp is surely just near St Martins-in-the-Fields is my favourite west end pub these days and if you can guarantee the upstairs room would be *perfect* for a FAP. downstairs is tight tho.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:16 (five years ago) link

Fitzrovia side is a good call tho my aversion to Sam Smith’s pubs means it takes a few out at a swipe - the aforementioned Newman St Blue Posts, The Champion and The Fitzrovia itself.

Tho as several ilxors will attest this discrimination around pubs is for show only. i will drink anywhere.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:19 (five years ago) link

xp I'd agree on both halves of that.

The Blue Posts myth is that they're basically taxi ranks for sedan chairs?

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:19 (five years ago) link

Because I'm not bright I have only just realised that sedan-carriers are what's being referred to in The Crown and Two Chairmen

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:20 (five years ago) link

yep, sedan chairs, postal collection points (indicated by blue posts), perimeter boundary of some sort. think there were a couple others.

my general rule on pub names unless they’re bleeding obvious is to assume we don’t know and inventive explanations are invariably rong.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:35 (five years ago) link

found you picky enough tbh

gabbnebulous (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 16:34 (five years ago) link

ENBB where roughly in town are you staying? Everywhere will be quietish in early January.

Newman Street is the best of the Blue Posts (I believe there are four) but others in our party may have strong opinions about Sam Smiths. It would be pleasingly old-school though.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 17:40 (five years ago) link

I found ENBB's FAP thread!

Hope to make it.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 17:43 (five years ago) link

that blue posts on newman street is fine. spacious and quiet enough as you say.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 17:51 (five years ago) link

MDC - In South London but am happy to meet at this Newman street location. Yay! Thank you for working that out. Wouldn’t have known where to suggest so this is great. What day would work best - 3rd, 4th or 5th? Again, I’m flexible so whatever is best for others.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 18:59 (five years ago) link

If it's on the 3rd I can probably pop in as I'm working in London that day

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 21:28 (five years ago) link

I'm free all three days.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 21:36 (five years ago) link

Though I'll be in a pub on the 2nd, so slight preference for not the 3rd.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 21:37 (five years ago) link

Bah I somehow saw that before seeing CP's response - slight preference for the 3rd now.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 20 December 2018 15:48 (five years ago) link

Third works for me. Let’s see what others think I guess. Yay!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 20 December 2018 18:59 (five years ago) link

3rd is the one day I can't do but I organise the ILB FAP once a season so no worries - have a good time
