By everyone, do you mean those "common" people, Alba? (I used to have exactly the same problem with "Design for Life", then realised I didn't actually give a shit why other people liked it as it made no difference to whether I liked it or not)

It's just that it's too histrionic and big a song to listen to casually, for me, even on my own.

Maybe the "Enjoy the Silence" prediction is just wishful thinking on my part (my #1).

Anyway I'm really weirded out by the high placement of that britney song, and I have trouble imagining that SO many people really honestly think its that good of a song, and that many of its votes aren't just a reaction to rockist dismissals of britney by ppl like rentboy.
Anyway I sure don't like it, and it's no where near as good as Toxic or I'm A Slave or, yes, Genie in a Bottle.

I'm pretty sure at least one DP song will make it, whether it'll be "Da Funk" or "Around the World" is anyone's guess.
I don't see "California Love" as a lock at all. Maybe it'll be there but it's not definite.

Back to 'Common People' - even if I can hum along to the first bit, by the time it gets to the "Like a dog lying in a corner" bit, no - I don't want to be turned inside out again like that every time.
Funnily enough, I can listen to my favourite Pulp song of all ('The Fear') as many times as I like. Maybe it's because it doesn't pretend to be all bouncy. I dunno.

Incidently to be clear - I'm not questioning that some people don't love that Britney song, just that the consensus would be so widespread among people that otherwise worship at the alter of Paranoid Android seems a little suspect. (And I find it hard to believe that Britney would rank so high w/out SOME overlap between radiohead-heads and pop-heads).

Dr. Bill's predictions look good (he did a really good job with his 00's poll predictions too), but I don't know about Neutral Milk Hotel and two Disco Inferno songss ...

Which isn't to say that I like it because it sounds like Radiohead, but because I'm a sucker for certain chord progressions, no matter their source.

I had "Paranoid Android" and "Where Are You Baby" in my top ten. Obviously I was one of the Britney voters. I don't do anti-rockism or irony in my taste in music.

I hope against hope I'm wrong about "Chime". It is indeed "one of those classic singles" but I think its reputation has been eclipsed by the other two since. Once again, very hopeful that I'm wronga bout that.
DI vote splitting is a good point, which I think will kill the chances of "It's a Kid's World," "Love Stepping Out" and possibly "Summer's Last Sound," but I think that "The Last Dance" has a reputation strong enough to crossover to the lists of non DI obsessives (such as myself) as well, which I don't think the others have.
"Super Going" is my favorite Boredoms song and the only Boredoms song nominated. If VCN's ridiculously high placing on the 00s poll is any indication, I think their fanbase is strong enough to put "Super Going" into the 20s, but the anonymity of the specific song to non-obsessives (as you just proved) might hurt it too much. It's a toss-up.

I know next to nothing about Neutral Milk Hotel, but aren't they more of an albums band? Is this 'Two-Headed Boy' far and away their best song, like 'Super Going'?
'Lazarus'? No way.

No way on "Lazarus," Scott? Boo Radleys love is strong here, and I thought "Lazarus" was by some margin the consensus Boos song of choice. I could be wrong, but I think it at least has a chance.
I forgot "Regret" in my prediction, stupidly enough. It'll probably make it.
I might be wrong about the two D.I. songs, MiR, but if history has taught me one thing, it's to never underestimate the vote of the corny indie fuxx. And as such, "Two-Headed Boy" is a near lock (and yes, I think it's considered to be far and away their best song, and also was the only one nominated).
