in depth preview is kinda more their steez than game recaps tho, but yeah you would think they couldve come up w some #longform way to explore the baseball playoffs, also may just be a lil lag after the weekend in the baseball coverage
― lag∞n, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:12 (nine years ago) link
baseball is already longform enough #americaslasttime
― owe me the shmoney (m bison), Monday, 6 October 2014 15:17 (nine years ago) link

― lag∞n, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:18 (nine years ago) link

I wish GL was just NBA articles, TBH. Actually, just Zach Lowe.
― Jeff, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:24 (nine years ago) link
And Molly Lambert

ya grantland for me is 90% zach lowe, i keep a bookmark to his author page, but they have some other cool stuff sometimes too
― lag∞n, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:28 (nine years ago) link
wesley morris is pretty cool, read him in the boston globe for years
― call all destroyer, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:29 (nine years ago) link
ya hes good
― lag∞n, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:30 (nine years ago) link
Jonathan Abrams features are almost uniformly incredible
Zach Lowe is an incredible perpetual machine of NBA analysis but I am already kind of tired of his writing this season, feel like he needs to son of bazerk CHANGE THE STYLE a lil bit but then again when he tried to fit into the grantland pop culture reference style early on it veered dangerously into poochie on a skateboard territory
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Monday, 6 October 2014 16:18 (nine years ago) link
yeah wld prefer if he just honed it down a lil
― lag∞n, Monday, 6 October 2014 16:22 (nine years ago) link
also hes kinda boring rn prob because were in the very boring part of the offseason
― lag∞n, Monday, 6 October 2014 16:23 (nine years ago) link
He def recovered once he embraced his inner basketball shut-in but it's funny when he comes back from a vacation suddenly armed with four year old breaking bad references
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Monday, 6 October 2014 16:24 (nine years ago) link
Yeah I kinda think they could have just let him write less abt some minor contracts instead of having to pad the last months worth with three intro grafs abt the upcoming TV deal and rising cap
Kinda like the entire entertainment press wasted thousands upon thousands of words chinscratching abt a crouching tiger sequel no one gives abt
― z-time champion (agent hibachi), Monday, 6 October 2014 16:26 (nine years ago) link
ya we really dont need all these hot takes
― lag∞n, Monday, 6 October 2014 16:27 (nine years ago) link
it's like w/the internet and media moving faster, instead of at the end of the day the big stories being written for the following day's paper, now all day long you see new stories popping up on websites every fifteen minutes that fifteen minutes later are completely forgotten.
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Monday, 6 October 2014 16:34 (nine years ago) link
lowe is at times the best basketball writer we have and at others the most unreadable. he's just unbearably square
― k3vin k., Monday, 6 October 2014 18:20 (nine years ago) link

lol otm

I am not partial to Simmons but if Grantland goes the way Sports on Earth just did I'll be very disappointed.
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 15 October 2014 13:43 (nine years ago) link
VIEWING ALERT!!!!! At 7 p.m. ET on Thursday (10/23), The Grantland Basketball Hour makes its triumphant debut on ESPN. Your hosts? Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose, who will be joined by Jeff Van Gundy, Doc Rivers, Michelle Beadle, and Zach Lowe
o gosh
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 04:46 (nine years ago) link
I am definitely watching that and hating it

@BillSimmonsIf Ned Yost had managed the Red Sox during the Pedro era, I'd be living in an insane asylum right now.

― mookieproof, Saturday, 25 October 2014 02:51 (nine years ago) link

big overlap in audiences tho which is i imagine the important part to bill and his desire to be hero worshiped by his base. there is a venn diagram i don't want to spend any time in the middle of.
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:37 (nine years ago) link
not sure mike&mike have an audience
― lag∞n, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:41 (nine years ago) link
bill's just pissed that he always got in trouble for bashing other espn talent
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:49 (nine years ago) link
ya prob
― lag∞n, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:50 (nine years ago) link
he shd go work for an actual journalistic entity that will worship him for the media star he is instead of for espn who make all their money broadcasting sporting events
― lag∞n, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:52 (nine years ago) link
like hes the most popular sports writer in the country but he will always mean less to espn than some rando college football game
― lag∞n, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:53 (nine years ago) link
on the other hand they pay him a shit load of money and let him have his own website documentary series and tv show
― lag∞n, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:54 (nine years ago) link
prob just stay on espn and stop being such a baby idk
yeah the prob is that basically any other platform would be a step back
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:55 (nine years ago) link
maybe running grantland isnt as much fun as he thought it was gonna be and hes trying to weasel out of it
― lag∞n, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:55 (nine years ago) link

― polyphonic, Thursday, 6 November 2014 19:57 (nine years ago) link
