I lied with my list. Those were identified via Soundhound.

I think I only used Shazam once to that end. It turned out to be a Barenaked Ladies song.

Op list leaves me dumbfounded on to why you would need to Shazam overplayed songs like Toxic... (or love story or dog days are over) but what do I know.

Firstly, I think Toxic and Love Story and the Ashanti one I could've identified on my own if I'd listened to them a few seconds more. But also, I'm just not that clued into commercial pop (and less, indie pop) - perhaps due to age (mid 40s) and having a more distant relationship to the whole business.

However, if anyone in my age bracket challenged me a contest of identifying recent chart hits I could probably take them.

Teddy Pendergrass - Only You
Con Funk Shun - Got to be Enough
Gwen McCRae - Funky Sensation
Taana Gardner - Heartbeat
Blood Orange - You're Not Good Enough
Frankie Miller - A Fool in Love
Wings - Rock Show
Asgeir - King and Cross
The Black Keys - Gotta Get Away (thought it was ELO!)
Drake - Hold On, We're Going Home (never know Drake when I hear him)

Rufus - This Summer
Miami Horror - Wild Motion (Set It Free)
Missy Higgins - Shark Fin Blues
Allday - You Always Know The DJ
Jackson Jones - I Feel Good, Put Your Pants On
Nero - Promises
Klingande - Jubel (Original Mix)
Miracle - Endless Summer (feat. Youngblood Hawke)
Avicii - Lay Me Down
One Republic - Love Runs Out

I mostly use it to identify songs I don't know (whether I'm enjoying them or not) that are playing in my gym.

honestly more curious what places people have successfully gotten shazam to work over crowd noise than what songs were shazammed

Whenever I do that it just gives me Autechre tracks.
