Ok, that's one of the ones that came up right when I was starting to not be able to take Phish anymore.

i like the dead but then recently i watched a documentary that was 70s concert footage and their fans dancing super bummed me out on them

reminds me of a UYD ep where Jonathan talks about going to a fairly recent Grateful Dead concert and buzzing out to the intensity of a fan's interpretive dancing

its an unfathomably horrific form

I don't know, it was all fine I guess, there were like 5 minutes towards the end where I was like, "alright, I can dig how this could be a religious experience if you knew the song beforehand," but I had a hard time not feeling like a cultural tourist.

Phish is playing at the bowl. It sounds pretty tame, but there's a giant road sign on my street this week that says "PHISH SOLD OUT. NO OPEN ALCOHOL. NO TAILGATING. NO CAMPING. HAVE PHUN!"

yeah, that's generally what the proselytizing superfans don't get (other than that this band isn't as good as you think, and you underrate how much the crowd makes the live experience, and how equally little the crowd might be to some peoples' taste) - you usually aren't going to get off on the variations without knowing the theme (from the bottom). not that that should matter to jazzers, though they're probably not going to take this stuff seriously in the first place.
