he also produced an album but sure. it defnitely seems like they influenced eachother quite a bit regardless

James Murphy was in Pony same time as 6FS. I saw them in Bloomington and have their 7".

album of the year candidate for me. simply gorgeous.

Same here. I went on a trip last week and it was all I listened to for two days. Played maybe ten times and just did not get bored of it. There may be a couple of higher highs on The Future Will Come but I think I prefer this one overall.

loving this more with each listen. weirdly charlotte is the song that took the longest to warm to, but now I love it. This is a top 5 DFA record, easily.

Right now only "The Sun Will Never Set On Our Love", "A Simple Design" and "Running Back To You" feel like all-time essential tracks to me. Not that there's anything bad here, though maybe the strike rate is a bit lower than on The Future Will Come.

I need to listen to this album but I am always hesitant to dwelve into a new one because of his voice, despite mostly adoring their previous albums.

Keep getting "Little Lies" uncanny valley moments with "You Were a Runaway".

John's vocals have bothered me a lot before but not at all here.

He's only noticeable on a couple of tracks anyway iirc? Thought he was more distracting on the previous album (which I still love).

How are John (Juan? idk) and Nancy live? They're coming to town and I don't think it's just a DJ set (or else I wouldn't bother even thinking of going).

It's almost certainly a DJ set; they haven't played live since Jerry died AFAIK, although Juan says he wants to get a new band together soon.

(I saw 'em touring Happy House with Holy Ghost as the rest of the band, and they were phenomenal. There's a killer 19-minute live version of HH on vimeo w/ Jerry & Eric Broucek (iirc) that you should totally watch.)

Did Jerry Play on The Future Will Come at all? I'm thinking about the drum rolls all over a track like 'Tonight', and how they really add to the emotional drive of the song, and how some of the songs on this new one would have been improved here with similar attention to rhythm. I do like it, but it feels a bit by numbers.

Jerry's on the title track and No Time, all other full-kit drumming is by Nick from HG!, inc Tonight. He's too busy co-writing and producing this one, so only drums on one track, with the HG touring drummer on a bunch.

'running back to you' is such a jam, it's like an even more spaced-out 'i can't go for that (no can do)'

Finally listened to this and not only is it great but I would go so far as to say as I like his voice at times on this album so well done everybody

I haven't loved everything they've done the past few years but this is brilliant, the synths are just so sparkling and I think this might be one of the best performances by Nancy Whang
