This album is fantastic.

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 13 September 2014 20:24 (nine years ago) link

album is fantastic. i don’t understand why he doesn’t get more club play. this album is full of bangers (e.g. charlotte is so so so perfect).

Allen (etaeoe), Saturday, 13 September 2014 20:27 (nine years ago) link

i was in berlin when white labels of happy house just started circulating and heard it 0 times. still mad.

Allen (etaeoe), Saturday, 13 September 2014 20:29 (nine years ago) link

when germans asked “what are americans digging?” and i responded with “JUAN MACLEAN!” they just shrugged and talked about americans not understanding polka techno.

Allen (etaeoe), Saturday, 13 September 2014 20:31 (nine years ago) link

Just got back from hearing his set. Loved the new stuff that I recognized on a system!

Def heard GMELT and "Happy House" out a lot in their time

The Reverend, Sunday, 14 September 2014 03:25 (nine years ago) link

Haha I don't go "out" but the only time I ever heard happy house "out" was at the metro before a Hercules and love affair show in like 2009

jaymc, Sunday, 14 September 2014 07:24 (nine years ago) link

oh damn, "Running Back to You" is gorgeous 80s soul music I was not prepared for this

The Reverend, Monday, 15 September 2014 03:25 (nine years ago) link

it's like the best song the Mary Jane Girls never recorded

brotherlovesdub, did it appear in the meantime? http://open.spotify.com/album/4BGSy2PuyRofUqvcnqi8K9
Inexplicably, it seems to be tagged as just 'Juan MacLean' sometimes.

the european nikon is here (grauschleier), Monday, 15 September 2014 13:17 (nine years ago) link

Maybe it's not available on mobile? Still can't get it on my phone.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 15 September 2014 15:07 (nine years ago) link

Country-specific, most probably.

big thumbs up for this album - "a simple design" is incredible.

is "charlotte" a totemic name for veteran trendy dance producers making straightforward bangers? am reminded (not sonically obv) of

I preordered so hopefully the mp3s show up soon. Need this for my commute home.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 15 September 2014 16:19 (nine years ago) link

Download link appeared in my inbox 3 hrs ago. All fired up and ready to go for tomorrow's commute

willem, Monday, 15 September 2014 21:15 (nine years ago) link

Oh, I guess I had it in my inbox already. Ended up ordering both the blue vinyl and the test pressing.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 15 September 2014 21:33 (nine years ago) link

Not feeling this yet cuz I don't love Nancy Whang like you guys do.

didn't like her Classixx track either

When I realize I don't like somebody, I stop listening to their music. Diff strokes and all that, I guess.

"Running Back to You" sounds more like a Catherine Wheel outtake, i.e. DFA stuff circa 2005.

Simple Design is fucking fantastic.

"the sun will never set on our love" is my favorite

dyl, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 20:26 (nine years ago) link

"Love Stops Here" is a great late-era LCD Soundsystem homage/ripoff

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 20:29 (nine years ago) link

lol that bands that are on the same label and have overlapping members and have toured together and whose lead members used to be in a band together can rip one another off

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 21:52 (nine years ago) link

Murphy was sometime soundman for 6FS, never a member afaik

dave matthews' gland (sic), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 22:24 (nine years ago) link

he also produced an album but sure. it defnitely seems like they influenced eachother quite a bit regardless

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 22:32 (nine years ago) link

James Murphy was in Pony same time as 6FS. I saw them in Bloomington and have their 7".

The Etienne de Crecy take on "Like An Eagle"/"Comme Un Aigle" is working a lot better than the Audiojack one.

album of the year candidate for me. simply gorgeous.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 23:33 (nine years ago) link

Same here. I went on a trip last week and it was all I listened to for two days. Played maybe ten times and just did not get bored of it. There may be a couple of higher highs on The Future Will Come but I think I prefer this one overall.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 00:42 (nine years ago) link

loving this more with each listen. weirdly charlotte is the song that took the longest to warm to, but now I love it. This is a top 5 DFA record, easily.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:01 (nine years ago) link

What a perfectly charming record.

"The Sun Will Never Set On Our Love" is such a good look.

Tim F, Thursday, 2 October 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link

i feel like there's nothing to say about this because it's so exactly what you expect and it's just john & nancy doing what john & nancy do but every moment really hits the spot so perfectly

lex pretend, Friday, 3 October 2014 08:46 (nine years ago) link

yeah that's how I feel too m/l

the Kazakh noun/adjective distinction (seandalai), Friday, 3 October 2014 08:54 (nine years ago) link

I've grown to like much of it except when he starts to sing.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 3 October 2014 10:57 (nine years ago) link

SITP needs a juan vocal-less edit, it sags so badly when his hot chip voice tramples all over the disco.

DISMISSED AS CHANCE (NotEnough), Friday, 3 October 2014 14:38 (nine years ago) link

I know I'm talking shit because I like Phil Oakey.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 3 October 2014 14:39 (nine years ago) link

ha, i am usually pretty alert to the problem of the unwanted male voice galumphing in but i felt this album dodged that pitfall

lex pretend, Friday, 3 October 2014 14:47 (nine years ago) link

Right now only "The Sun Will Never Set On Our Love", "A Simple Design" and "Running Back To You" feel like all-time essential tracks to me. Not that there's anything bad here, though maybe the strike rate is a bit lower than on The Future Will Come.

the Kazakh noun/adjective distinction (seandalai), Friday, 3 October 2014 16:49 (nine years ago) link

I need to listen to this album but I am always hesitant to dwelve into a new one because of his voice, despite mostly adoring their previous albums.
