The fleecing of the public to pay for stadiums that the vast majority of taxpayers cant afford to go to is just mind-blowing. I cant believe every time a team tries to hijack a city to get taxpayer money to build a stadium it works. If anybody has the time, read the Atlanta Journal Constitution's ongoing series about the new Braves stadium. It's nauseating (the deal for the new stadium, not the AJC whose reporting on this issue is fantastic).
― Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 5 September 2014 18:31 (nine years ago) link
yeah. and nfl stadiums are in use 10 days (one or two more, for the fortunate) a year, two of which are pre-season games designed mainly to fleece season ticket holders

I can really only speak for the georgia dome (which is also being replaced) but it gets used quite a bit: college games, concerts, truck shows, etc. Im actually going to be one of the 5000 people (out of 70k capacity) there tomorrow for the Georgia State-New Mexico State game cuz a buddy of mine is an assistant for NMS.
― Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 5 September 2014 20:34 (nine years ago) link
And the new falcons stadium will be used for the new MLS team. That being said, its a fucking obscene waste of money. The Dome is perfectly fine.
Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) announced Tuesday that she will introduce legislation to eliminate the NFL's tax-exempt status because of its refusal to address the name of the Washington Hatcats.

holy f that is amazing.
What makes the idea of the referral doubly strange is that Snyder plainly despised La Canfora. Everybody at http://images.chron.com/blogs/askacat/hatcat.JPG Park knew about this. Prospective http://images.chron.com/blogs/askacat/hatcat.JPG civilian employees were routinely asked during the interview process about their views on his coverage of the team. And if they gave the right answer and got a job, they were reminded of the boss's obsession with the reporter during staff brainstorming sessions that he called to solve The Jason La Canfora Problem.

I asked him what he thought of having his team featured last summer on the HBO reality show ‘‘Hard Knocks,’’ about life at an N.F.L. training camp. He said it was a net plus, although he was distraught over how much swearing there was and joked that Coach Bill O’Brien should introduce a cuss jar. I asked McNair if he was as sensitive to other offensive language, specifically the N.F.L. team in the nation’s capital’s being named the Redsk1ns. McNair told me that he grew up in western North Carolina, around many Cherokee Indians. ‘‘Everybody respected their courage,’’ McNair told me of the Indians. ‘‘They might not have respected the way they held their whiskey, but. . . .’’ He laughed. ‘‘We respected their courage. They’re very brave people.’’

"Get it... 'brave' people?" McNair then held two fingers behind his head to symbolize a feather headdress and proceeded to dance in a small circle while loudly whooping before finally collapsing to the ground in a fit of giggles. "I kid, I kid. But I really do love those goddamn injuns."

The Washington r******s failed to sign quarterback Kirk Cousins to a long-term deal, setting the stage for his possible departure next offseason.Team president Bruce Allen said in a statement that Cousins was "obviously important to our team and fans" and detailed the team's offer made to the quarterback. He also talked about the decision in a video posted on the team's website but referred to Cousins on five occasions as "Kurt" instead of Kirk.Asked about Allen's pronunciation of Cousins' first name, a team spokesman said it sounded that way because of the r******s president's accent.
