Same--or for the month, or the year, or whatever. But at the other end of the spectrum, I care just as little about the big film festivals--Cannes, our own, any of them. I think the whole ritual is kind of vile, and whenever I was given a free ticket the past few years, and found myself herded around like a zombie, I hated it. The documentary festival here has managed to stay relatively accessible, but you can see it's headed for the same place eventually.

Sport. Got stuck at one of 2 tables people sat at from my course on Monday night and the rest of the table proceeded to talk about hurling.I sat there thinking it was rude to leave, for several minutes, then got up and moved to other table and instantly found conversation interesting.

this is reasonable enough and if you have no interest in sport, visual art etc etc, its preferable that it be expressed negatively, in terms of just completely not caring, rather than pejoratively
even so, from the person who wrote these posts it raises questions about how much people should be expected to be interested in what other people are caught up in

y'know, people really seem shocked when i tell them about my thing with bears. i get it all the time, when i'm out at dinner, when i'm walking down the street: people always asking me, "how can you possibly not care about bears? what's wrong with you?" and i just tell them "you know what? i just don't. i don't care about bears. to be totally honest, i don't get why YOU'RE all so obsessed with them. they're just mammals. you know what? i don't care what you people say. i don't care about that OR bears. because you're all just the same to me. materialistic, easily manipulated sheep. you're just cogs in the bear machine. i'm choosing to do something just a little bit different. a little bit out there. not the same thing everyone else is doing. and you can never seem to appreciate that. any of you. i'm just over here, specifically not caring about bears, and i think that's important work. so get over it."

i had assumed this is why crut revived the thread.
what i dislike most about the ice bucket challenge is that i feel like a terrible human being for not caring. at the same time i don't want to be cajoled into caring. someone nominated me the other day and every other post on FB is someone doing the IBC and nominating their friends and I just want it to blow over so i don't feel like a complete shit for not getting involved, but honestly...
it goes without saying that there's nothing wrong with people doing sponsored events to raise awareness for charity; it's a good cause and i'm not criticising anyone who takes part. But it's the 'chain letterness' and the organised fun-ness of the challenge - the idea that if you're nominated you HAVE to do it or else you're a heartless cowardly fun-hater. fuck it, i'll prob donate something all the same, if only to feel better about not dumping ice water on my head and uploading the film for everyone to see. and then what? all I'll have done is bought myself off. i haven't 'cared', i've simply bought a 'get out of guilt free' card for my conscience. meanwhile, if everyone on FB is donating to ALS doesn't that mean a lot of contributions that would otherwise go to other charities during this period get reallocated?

also i've never cared for flowers, how they look and especially how they smell. they all smell of grass to me, barring a few which smell like a sneeze against a mirror.
